Xiura frowned thoughtfully at the Rocket grunt's double-edged farewell, but waved good-bye nevertheless as he teleported away. She turned to Zev Harcourt as he introduced himself, smiling reflexively in response. "I'm Xiura, nice to meet you! And I agree; let's get going." She had drunk a fair amount of caffeinated black tea to prepare for this overnight trip, and made sure she closed the shop on time to nap beforehand as well. Fortunately the café was scheduled to be closed tomorrow, so she could recover from the mission and sleep in.

"Come back inside," she directed to her Pokémon, tapping the belt at her waist. Both Hatterene and Poliwrath disappeared into their small spherical homes, and Xiura nodded to Zev before rounding the truck to board the passenger side.

Rather than wear her distinctive pastel-hued blouses and skirts, she had chosen to don darker clothes to favor the less-than-honest intentions of their mission. She cast a small, sympathetic smile toward the back of the truck, saying to Zev as he climbed into the driver's seat, "After they're evolved, I hope they eventually find owners with the resources to spoil them."

She was willing to imagine that they would; from what limited information she could glean about this mission despite the shroud of secrecy, Rocket would make a generous profit from selling pre-evolved Eevees to fashion- and aesthetic-minded patrons of the various high-end boutiques that boasted matching ensembles and Pokémon companions to match.

As the truck puttered off to begin their journey to Fortree City, Xiura traced the Pokéballs at her waist, wondering quietly. Hatterene's Pokéball twitched slightly beneath her touch as if sensing her thoughts.

Xiura frowns thoughtfully as the ranger finishes her rundown of the situation at hand: a search and rescue mission for an experienced hiker. To her, it is unfortunate and mildly surprising that someone so experienced with hiking and survival could go missing in the wild. The dangers of Mother Nature were certainly not to be underestimated. Xiura hitches her compact backpack over her shoulders, adjusting the fit to be a bit tighter as she looks over the small crowd of rescuers for a suitable partner. Her hand drifts down to the belt at her waist, carrying her entourage of Pokémon. Who would be best to accompany her for this trek? She thinks for a few minutes, then taps one of them lightly. "Come on out, Bufo. Let's do our best today."

Her Poliwrath appears in a flash beside her, bobbing up and down in excitement. "Wrath."

Just then, a large drop of water splashes onto her cheek. She looks up at the forebodingly dark sky, then pulls up her hood on her waterproof, insulated raincoat. At least she had dressed for the weather.

Xiura laughs at Poliwrath's pleased expression as he soaks in the growing drizzle of rain. "Well, this is perfect for you, Bufo, but not all of us thrive in the water. Let's find a partner before this rain gets too heavy to see."

She moves closer to the crowd, intending to pick the first friendly-looking face she comes across. As she approaches and weaves through various newly-joined pairs in search for another unmatched person, she accidentally bumps into a tall man with a Boltund.

"Oh! Pardon me," Xiura apologizes, looking up at jack wainwright. She takes a swift moment to look him up and down. The stranger is also appropriately geared and dressed for the occasion, and he looks friendly. "Have you found a partner yet? I'm Xiura, if you're looking."

Incineroar smirks aggressively at Beau Fontaine , running a tongue along the sharp, glinting teeth lining his maw. "Incineroarrrrr." He raises both arms to flex his biceps, showing off bulging musculature. He points rudely at Beau, and jerks both thumbs at his own chest. The implication is clear: Incineroar is ready to destroy and gobble his prey whole.

Looking back and forth between the two with a mounting sense of panic, Xiura blurts out, "No! Wait, please, let's take a minute and calm down."

If the police were to come by and witness Incineroar assaulting a customer... Xiura shakes her head, refusing to consider the possibilities. She bites her bottom lip and, thinking quickly, rushes to the front door, locks it, and flips the sign to display "CLOSED". Wasting no time, she links arms with Incineroar to bodily usher him towards the back.

"If this is going to happen, please, not at the front. Incineroar, go to the back." He is reticent at first, refusing to budge, but Xiura cajoles, "There's more room for you to experiment with your moves, okay? You'll need way more room for your corkscrew piledriver."

She smiles at him, fondness sneaking its way into her stressed expression. She remembers all the late nights she would stay up with him when he was only a Litten, secretly watching pro wrestling on television while her traditional-minded mother thought she was fast asleep. She would always be dead-tired serving customers at the teahouse the next day, but it was always worth it to see Litten's bright eyes glued to the screen.

Soon enough, she has both Beau and Incineroar in the back alley behind the boba tea cafe. "Thank you both for your cooperation. Now," she claps her hands, "Let us properly begin."

She calls on Hatterene, who appears before them in a flash of red light. "Hatterene, Wonder Room! Give us an arena!" In response, Hatterene chimes sonorously, pouring forth a powerful surge of pure psychic energy. Instantly, a wrestling ring appears, elevating Beau and Incineroar above the ground; a strange, wondrous room surrounds all four of them in a shimmering box of glittering lavender light and strange angles.

Xiura emits a small sigh of relief that they are concealed from prying eyes, then quickly straightens and gestures to Incineroar. "In this corner, the defender! Incineroar, the Combustible Champion!" Xiura barely suppresses a laugh as Incineroar bellows with joy, beating his chest with alternating fists for an imaginary audience of spectators.

"And in this corner..."

Xiura hesitates, looking at Beau. "I'm sorry, I don't believe we've formally—"

"ROARRRRR." Incineroar shoots forward in a blaze of red and black across the center of the ring, tackling Beau to the floor.

"Oh, a Spear move! Excellent form!" Xiura claps her hands with surprised delight.

While Beau is still prone, Incineroar climbs onto the turnbuckle padding at the corner of the ring, clearly aiming to bodyslam Beau. "And now he's climbing up to gain some altitude on his opponent! What special move could Incineroar be planning next?"

Xiura urges Incineroar forward to greet the visitor at the front, saying, "Go greet our guest! I need to put all these metal pots away." With a flash of carmine light, Hatterene exits her Pokéball from Xiura's waist satchel and starts levitating cookware into their proper places on wall hooks and various cabinets without asking.

Incineroar grumbles and pushes through the door leading to the front of Bubble, Bubble Tea and Trouble Café. He stands before Beau Fontaine , looking the muscular man up and down and harrumphing in clear disdain.

With a final thud of the cabinets closing, Xiura wipes her brow. "Thanks, Hatterene. I appreciate your help. You can rest again if you like." Hatterene chimes, mimicking a yawn as she covers her mouth with the end of her ponytail-like appendage, and flashes back into her Pokéball home.

Xiura hurries out to the front of the café, surprised to see Incineroar staring down a lone customer in the shop. "Hello! Have you been helped?" She barely holds back from eyeing Incineroar with judgmental concern.

Incineroar glances toward Xiura briefly. "Roar," he utters to Beau with the barest undertone of civility, standing at the register. He sweeps an arm across the laminated menu on the countertop as though to ask what the customer wants. "Roar." He then folds his arms across his chest and waits, his biceps and pectoral muscles flexing wildly as he does so.

"Incineroar!" Xiura says, shocked, trying to nudge Incineroar aside from his position behind the counter. "I'm so sorry; my name is Xiura and I"m the owner of this café. It's so nice to have you here."

Xiura stirred whole milk, vanilla bean, and butter in a large saucepan, redoing the custard filling for the fruit tarts. Soon, small bubbles came popping up at the surface of the rich liquid as Xiura listened to Aurelie Lefevre's recounting of her first bubble tea experience.

Xiura nearly splashed hot custard-to-be all over the stovetop as she gasped a small, surprised, "Oh!" Her astonishment and horror were surely most evident on her face from the other woman's description of the mushy, poorly-textured tapioca and the unbalanced sweetness of the tea she had imbibed once before. Xiura snapped back to attention as Clefairy let out a warning cry, and stopped stirring the milk so energetically.

"Thank you; this is the custard indeed," she said, taking the saucepan off the stove and planting it on a round wooden trivet. "I like to use real vanilla bean in it to get the most flavor out of the tart filling." She nodded at Clefairy, who popped open a carton of fresh eggs and started cracking them into a large metal bowl. "Whisk them together with the white sugar and cornstarch, please," she said to Clefairy, who trilled agreeably in response.

Satisfied with the next steps pertaining to the custard, Xiura turned to Aurelie and said with great sympathy, "I'm so sorry your first experience was horrible. If you don't mind, I'll be sure to try and remedy that!" She nodded at Incineroar, who trudged over to the drying stove and flicked on the gas flame.

The familiar smell of sugar syrup and boba filled the kitchen, alongside the sweet smell of custard.

"Now, what flavor should we have you try?" Xiura pondered aloud, pacing back and forth along a long row of silver-colored airtight canisters that housed several powder bases. "Mango and taro are pretty popular. A traditional black milk tea is fairly subtle, but perhaps we could try strawberry." She turned to Aurelie with an inviting smile.

The late evening sky over Lilycove City was a tranquil and beautiful one, drenched in blued violets and deep scarlets. The boba café had long since closed for the day, but Xiura still stayed, tidying up long after hours. She was expecting a special shipment that night, after all.

Xiura yawned, covering her mouth with the back of her hand as she mopped the hardwood floor free of smudges and stains that had collected over the day. Poliwrath assisted with subdued versions of his water abilities to replenish the clean water in her bucket, and she patted him on atop his head in thanks.

Soon enough, she heard the slow approach of an unfamiliar vehicle at the back of the shop, rumbling lowly through the floorboards.

Xiura felt Hatterene's presence at her side almost immediately, the Pokémon chiming delicately with a question. Xiura nodded and said, "Come, Hatterene, let's greet our visitor."

Hatterene levitated the mop and bucket into the storage closet quickly before the trio exited through the back door of the cafe, Poliwrath leading the way.

A pull-up truck with a heavy tarp over the back was parked in the alley, the driver leaning against the side of the car idly. His plain, stubbled face was one that Xiura did not recognize; but then, she expected as much. She had not taken any Rocket missions since the move to Lilycove.

"It's quite late; how was the drive?" she asked, politely breaking the ice.

He didn't answer, merely reciting the pass phrase that had been detailed to her the night before. "A starving Noctowl flies at sunrise."

Xiura slowly nodded, responding, "The night yields the greatest prey."

The man swiftly moved to the tarp, pulling up the edge of it to show the cages beneath, carrying several sleeping Eevees.

Xiura smiled at him before stepping forward to inspect the slumbering passengers. Her Poliwrath kept step with her, ensuring there was a barrier between Xiura and the stranger.

"Thank you. I hope you have a ride home?" She flicked a gaze down to his belt of Pokéballs.

He nodded, pulling out the keys from his pocket.

"ROAR!" A crash sounded from the café's kitchen as Incineroar's distinctive bellow reached Xiura's ears.

Xiura shook her head, continuing to arrange a bouquet of long-stemmed orchids in the vase Aurelie Lefevre had gifted her at the Cultural Festival.

Incineroar clearly needed to blow off some steam. Xiura enjoyed the comfortingly repetitive and therefore meditative qualities of baking, and occasionally the odd flower arrangement.

"ROOOARRRR." Xiura heard more crashes of metal.

Unfortunately, some personalities needed outlets that were decidedly more physical than creative.

Xiura sighed, then nodded at Hatterene to continue with the flowers so that she could see what was inciting Incineroar's frustration. Hatterene chimed lightly, then began snipping and arranging the flower stems in various positions. Hatterene had attended the same homemaking classes as Xiura ever since she was a young Hattena, so Xiura had full faith in the psychic Pokemon's ability.

"Incineroar, what's all this fuss?" Xiura said with practiced lightness as she entered the kitchen. A slew of pots and other metal cookware were scattered across the floor as she caught Incineroar mid-pose, lunging forth on one leg as he mimicked the flexed, powerful pose of a Machamp featured on a flier taped to the wall.

"Oh, what's this?" She looked curiously at the colorful advertisement for the new wrestling reality show featuring colorfully-costumed Pokemon. "Missing the ring, are you, Incineroar?"

Incineroar grumbled, dropping his flexed pose to pout and scuff at the floor with one big padded foot.

"I'm sure we can find someone to match your gusto for wrestling in the Safari Zone later," Xiura thought aloud, patting Incineroar on the forearm with sympathy. "Maybe a Heracross or a Scyther."

Incineroar rumbled lowly in agreement just as the faint, silvery ring of the front door filtered into the kitchen. Xiura looked up. "Oh, a customer!"

Xiura smiles at Klaus' promise to stop by the boba shop, continuing to listen attentively to the lighthouse keeper's description of his duties.

"The café is usually slow since we're new in town, but we've been steadily growing a bit busier. I have some flyers up around town advertising, so I think more people may have taken notice of us nowadays."

As he yawns and mentions needing a nap, Xiura flushes, looking apologetic. "Oh!" Xiura glances around, taking note of how long their shadows have gotten in the late afternoon sun. "I didn't realize it was getting late."

"Hatterene, time to go! Great job!" She points a Pokeball at her psychic companion, a sharp beam of red light calling back Hatterene into the ball.

"It was great working with you. I'll see you around, Klaus!" She flashes Klaus a quick smile with a wave good-bye.
