Xiura let herself be swept away by the bustling crowd hurrying into the casino, simultaneously trying not to step on Delcatty's tail. As Killian Decker opened the table of Galaxy Roulette to bets, Xiura watched with some consternation. "Evens or odds?" she murmured to herself. She wondered at the chance of either with the spinning red-and-black roulette wheel. Was it perfectly 50-50 chance? She did not have enough experience with gambling to make an educated guess.

After watching the miraculous sprinkling of Pay Day coins from Rika's Meowth, Xiura felt it would surely be a missed opportunity if she did not bet now. Crouching down a little to pet Delcatty on the head for her patience, Xiura carefully placed 3 CHIPS on the betting table, indicating her choice of EVENS.

She crossed her fingers, hoping for fortune's favor. "Good luck!" she mouthed to Aurelie Lefevre across the table.

"Yes, I'd always wanted to have my own boba tea café, so eventually I was able to purchase this one." Xiura smiled broadly, pride shining through her expression. "I used to work alongside my mother at her traditional tea house in Ecruteak City, so I learned the ins and outs of running a business."

She had learned inventory and orders under her mother's watchful eye, but she remembered better the seemingly endless finances, the large numbers moving in and out of the tea house, and the importance of keeping these sums and surnames close to her chest.

"It was truly a worthwhile experience, even if perhaps I didn't appreciate all the hard work when I was younger." She poured some baking beads into the molds before setting the new pastry shells in the pre-heated oven to bake until golden brown.

Xiura also remembered the repetition, the endless hours of practice, perfecting the art of the tea ceremony. The exact measurements and motions of creating the perfect cup of green tea. Whisking over and over until she spilled nary a drop, until her wrist ached and kept her up at night.

"There are so many flavors to choose from, my favorite tends to change from week to week. I think right now my favorite is the strawberry milk black tea. We use jasmine green tea too, but I prefer black or oolong in mine. Do you have a favorite?"

Looking over at Aurelie's cutting board, Xiura smiled, nodding at the precise, even slices of Aurelie's finished fruit in approval. They were perfect.

"I think you have an eye for flowers as well as blades, Aurelie," Xiura said, still inwardly delighted she had officially made her first friend in Hoenn. "Such tall, elegant flowers would only lend to the piece's aesthetic, surely." She looked to Elisabeth Fiorelli for confirmation, before scanning the dazzling array of tropical flower arrangements for sale.

The vase had been such a pretty gift, and Xiura could already picture where she would place it in the café. Xiura felt compelled to examine more of the florist's wares to see if perhaps there might be a gift she could present in return. The wristlets of fresh flowers and seashells were beautiful, and while the blossoms might dry over time, the knotted patterns of twine wreathing the delicate shells were sure to last quite a long while.

Xiura picked up a bracelet of crimson hibiscus and pearlescent white shells, as well as one of white jasmine and mother-of-pearl beads. "May I purchase these, Miss Fiorelli?" She carefully pressed some coin into Elisabeth's hands and then turned to present the hibiscus bracelet to Aurelie Lefevre .

"While I have a much less eloquent presentation ready," Xiura said, "I beseech you to accept this token of friendship, and I hope that ours shall flourish just as beautifully as these blooms."

"If I may, mademoiselle?" Xiura asked with exaggerated grandeur, curtseying deeply before slipping the bracelet onto Aurelie's wrist. With a grin, she slid the jasmine bracelet onto her own arm, lifting her wrist to breathe in the flowers' sweet scent.

Xiura accepted Aurelie Lefevre 's gift with feigned solemnity, though her grave visage quickly dissolved into a bout of delighted laughter. "Thank you so much, Miss Lefevre! And please, call me Xiura, we've run into each other enough times to be on a first-name basis by now."

She took some time to turn over the Sunflora jar with a discerning eye, taking in the small details of the jewel-hued glazes adorning the surface. "This is absolutely beautiful, Miss Lefevre. Was this from the Lilycove Museum gift shop?" She said with awe, "I think this would be beautiful in the café. I do agree with your idea of placing flowers in it. Perhaps tall, less flashy ones, so that they do not detract from the art on the vase."

She paused to consider this. "Well, if anyone might know the perfect accompanying flower to this vase, it would be Elisabeth Fiorelli . Why don't we go over and take a look at her stall?" She playfully hooked her arm through the crook of Aurelie's, the vase firmly held under her other arm, then took a moment to check on her staff.

"Are you two all right?" Xiura said to Incineroar and Froslass. The two were already busily tending to the orders of a few parched festival-goers, but they spared no time in voicing their confirmation.

"Roarr!"

"Lass!"

Xiura grinned and traversed the festival street with Aurelie to arrive at Elisabeth Fiorelli's floristry booth, where she was sipping on lemonade and conversing with a handsome, unfamiliar man.

Xiura waved hello, taking a second to crouch down and greet the Roselia offering complimentary berry tarts, accepting one of the dessert pastries with gratitude.

"Hello, Miss Fiorelli, your flowers are beautiful! I have a question, if you have a spare moment." Straightening again, Xiura adjusted the vase beneath her arm, ensuring it wouldn't fall and break.

With admiration, Xiura says to Klaus, "Lighthouse keeper! That sounds like an important job, with the ships navigating along the shore and all." She looks along the beach landscape, breathing in deeply to savor the salty sea air.

"I recently moved here from Johto to establish a boba tea café, so now I'm local." Xiura pauses to shake a pebble out of her sandal before continuing on. "You should come by sometime. My mother has a traditional tea house back home, so you'll see a few things reminiscent of that sort of place." Xiura smiles a little with the memory, recalling the familiar, earthy scent of green tea in the air. She remembers the timeless wooden screens with translucent paper enclosing each private booth, the distinctive furnishing mirrored in her own café.

As the Lapras continues to strike at the birds sailing overhead, Hatterene glides along the edge of the ebbing waves, levitating over the ground. Occasionally the Pokémon lands, creating an imprint in the wet sand as she releases a blast of psychic energy at the offending Wingulls.

Carefully making a few self-conscious adjustments to her purple cocktail dress and matching clutch, Xiura Balfaltin lingered in the Casino Starlight's spacious plaza, taking a moment to admire the beautiful fountain and the fanciful attire of the people around her. At her side with a calmly swishing tail, Delcatty kept pace. Xiura had never been to a casino before, and she hoped that Delcatty's soothing presence would help keep her nervousness at bay.

"Let's find out where to go," Xiura said to her feline companion, her swiftly wandering gaze betraying her anticipation of the night's events that lay ahead. There was so much to look at, and they were not even within the casino yet. The brilliance of Melody Miro 's lively musical performance and Killian Decker 's breathtaking entrance were beyond words. There were so many unfamiliar faces, made all the more intimidating by the sparkling ensembles and accessories, but she breathed a sigh of relief to see Aurelie Lefevre nearby, collecting chips from a Gothitelle.

That seemed like the right way of things, so Xiura trotted over a little more quickly than may have been strictly dignified for such a formal venue. To be fair, she was quite excited to find a friendly face. "Miss Lefevre! It's nice to see you again, how are you?"

With a smile and polite nod of thanks, Xiura accepted her own complimentary chips from the Gothitelle, taking note of the numbers inscribed on the surface of the Pokeball.

"This way, Incineroar," Xiura said, throwing a glance back over her shoulder with some concern. Incineroar was occasionally getting distracted by all the snacks and sweets on sale at various kiosks down the main street of Tempest Quinn 's bustling Cultural Festival. "Be careful, don't let anything fall over." Incineroar huffed gruffly in acknowledgment, pushing his cart of large, heavy boxes along.

Froslass glided along by Xiura's side as the boba cafe barista pushed her own matching cart full of cardboard boxes. She found herself sweating, not only from the exertion of the task at hand but the peculiarly heavy heat that seemed to permeate the air. "Froslass, mind tossing a little Powder Snow on me?" Xiura laughed as Froslass amiably acquiesced to her request, the ice-type Pokemon blowing some gentle snowflakes onto her bare arm to cool her down.

"Want some, Incineroar?" Xiura half-joked, looking back at her other companion.

Incineroar grunted in indignation. "Roarrrr." To emphasize his point, he heartily flexed a mighty bicep, prompting Froslass to roll her eyes and Xiura to laugh again.

"Right, yes, sweat is weakness leaving the body. In any case, we're here, everyone." Before the trio stood a simple wooden kiosk, ready to be adorned with any manner of wares. "Time to set up!"

After a quick wipe-down of the countertops and sweep of the floors, Xiura was perfectly satisfied. "Great job, you two. Now, let's please set the tea over here." With some coaching and assistance, Incineroar arranged a row of seven large beverage dispensers on the back counter, their transparent glass surfaces beaded with cold condensation. Bright, eye-catching tropical colors glistened within each tall, broad cylinder, marking the teas ready to be poured for awaiting customers. Several metal pots of syrup-soaked boba were set to the side, along with an unassuming induction cooktop, ready to make more of the chewy pearls if needed.

At the front of the kiosk, Xiura pinned a sign with the pricing and types of boba teas available: mango, lychee, peach, pineapple, rose apple, strawberry, and winter melon. Around the Cultural Festival, she spotted a familiar face: Aurelie Lefevre , entering the Lilycove Museum. She also noted a neighboring kiosk full of robust, beautiful flower arrangements, Elisabeth Fiorelli at its fore. Xiura definitely needed to take a look at that!

"Froslass, please make sure to ice the beverages as needed with your Ice Shard. Incineroar, you're in charge of the boba. Both of you alternate helping the customers. I'll take a look around and come back, okay?" The pair nodded and adopted their stations readily.

Xiura looked over the knife set with evident enchantment as Aurelie laid them out before her with understated grace. Clefairy bobbed over the various blades as well, eyes shining with curiosity.

Xiura looked up with surprise at Aurelie's offer to help, saying, "Well, I feel bad about imposing on your kindness, especially after your expedient delivery of such a complicated order." And surely it must have taken hours if not days of the forger's time, with such a beautiful masterpiece to show for her efforts.

Taking one of the paring knives in hand, Xiura tested the weight and shape of it, her brows quickly rising in pleased disbelief. "I see what you're saying! They feel perfect for me! I only regret that I had not requested your services sooner."

Turning her head, she asked, "Clefairy, would you please lend Poliwrath a hand in cleaning up?" Clefairy trilled amiably, bouncing away to the broom closet to fetch a brush and dustpan. Poliwrath was already inspecting the inside of the oven, where a dozen charred black tarts lay on a baking sheet, still smoking. On the counter, all of the tarts were practically ruined, their glossy sugar-syrup glaze all but washed away.

Xiura took one of the full cooling racks in her hands, dumping an abundance of soaked tarts into the trash bin. "Anyway, these were for the bake sale..." She sighed, then caught herself and shook her head. "It's doable, but it'll just take some time to bake the shells, make more custard, slice the fruit..."

Xiura winced, thinking it over. "I really wouldn't mind another helping hand, if you're free." She walked over to the fridge and pulled out a deep, compartmentalized plastic bin of various washed fruits. Taking a strawberry in hand, Xiura placed it on the cutting board and experimentally sliced several thin cuts into it with the new knife, fanning out the slices to create a pleasing shape. "It's like cutting through butter, or air," she marveled. "I think it'll take half the time to prepare the fruits again."

Xiura took a step back from the cutting board and dried her hands on the towel tucked into her apron sash. "May I leave the cutting to you while I prepare more pastry shells, Miss LeFevre?" She smiled sheepishly.

"It's nice to meet you, Klaus, Anwhistle."

Glancing briefly upward at the scattering seabirds, Xiura says with a smile, "I wouldn't want to impose on Anwhistle like that. Let us help you! After all, we came for a job, too."

Pausing to assess the skies overhead, Xiura wrinkles her nose at the Wingulls simply waiting for unsuspecting passersby to pull out more food. "I think they might be a little high up for you, Incineroar." Incineroar growls, crossing his arms, but Xiura still takes a Pokeball from her waist belt and tosses it high in the air.

"Hatterene, go! Use Confusion!"

Hatterene hums its acknowledgment in a sparkling chime of noise. Turning to the birds wheeling overhead, she aims a blast of blue energy at them. The impact startles and confounds the Wingulls, who start squawking in dismay, colliding into their neighbors and dropping from the sky.

"Great job, Hatterene!" Xiura says, motioning for her Pokemon to join the Lapras' side.

"Fairy?" Clefairy sounded very concerned from where she was hovering near the piping-hot oven. Several dozen fruit tarts, adorned with strawberry, cherry, kiwi, and mango toppings, sat cooling on a wire rack.

"Just a second, Clefairy, I've just got to..." Xiura huffed out a breath, frustratedly brushing strands of hair away from her eyes. Smudges of flour were daubed over her forehead and cheeks. "It's so hard to pare down these apples with this kind of knife. I hope our delivery comes in soon."

Fed up with the poor condition of her cheaply-bought knives, which had taken poorly to the salty seaside air, Xiura had recently placed an order with the newly-opened blade-smithing shop.

Entirely focused on the maddeningly slow process of peeling apples, Xiura didn't think to look up from her work until she heard a sharp rapping on the door separating the kitchen from the front of the café.

"Just a moment!" She put down the knife and wiped her hands on the dish towel at her side. Hurrying to the door, she opened it wide to see the very owner of the Iron Lady Forge, Aurelie Lefevre . "Ah! Welcome, Miss LeFevre! I'm so sorry about the mess, how are you doing?"

"Clefairy! Clefaaaairy!" Clefairy squeaked urgently, bouncing over to tug at Xiura's apron.

"Clefairy, what—Oh, oh... Drat!" Black, billowing smoke was pouring out from the seams of the oven door. Fumbling at her waist belt of Pokéballs and tossing one forward, Xiura exclaimed, "Poliwrath! Bubble beam!"

Poliwrath appeared in the middle of the kitchen, immediately spitting out a host of bubbles that popped and splashed water all over the oven, immediately putting out the small fire—and drenching all the nearby fruit tarts as well.

Xiura clapped her hands over her mouth in dismay. "Aah! The tarts!" Poliwrath looked up at her with wide, watery eyes. "Oh, I, well, thank you, Poliwrath. You've saved us all. Tarts are easy to replace." Xiura gave Poliwrath a tight hug, making him burble happily in response.

"Sorry about all that," Xiura said to Aurelie with a self-deprecating laugh. "Back to square one for this bake off, I think."
