[break][break] Did he mean his family? Ollie wasn't so sure, but somehow, the term "ancestors" made the words seem all that more serious. He gazed at the other man in curiosity as he walked through the shrine with the comfort of someone who had spent many weeks taking care of it.

[break][break] The Head Ranger's brow furrowed in confusion.

[break][break] Ollie didn't want to say it, but that seemed like a waste of the other man's skills. From what Ollie understood about the task, it was usually given to much older people — male priests and the like, with canes.

[break][break] Before he could call Roy Aker old — the other man cut him off.

[break][break] "Oh!" Ollie exclaimed, both in part relief that the other man didn't want to spend the entirety of his life taking care of dead people, but also with excitement that the other wanted to join his small family. "That's amazing!"

[break][break] Sunshine spilled across the cavern as the clouds above shifted, dawning brilliant light onto the shrine's grounds.

[break][break] He walked over, a hand dropping heavily onto the other's shoulder.

[break][break] "We'd love to have you, Roy. You'll be a great addition."

[break][break] Ollie took pause, glancing around at the environment around them.

[break][break] "We can also have some of the cadets scope out this place - if you want," he said hastily. "Help you take care of it, you know?"

It was - as Gunner Graves had once said to him - a much more complicated matter than even individuals like he or Caleb Harcourt could even bear to burden, no matter how much they wanted to. [break][break] And how ironic that Ollie was the one lecturing him on this now, when just a few months ago, their situations would've been swapped. Ollie had been the naïve one. Ollie had been the blind one.

[break][break] It hadn't been that long ago that Ollie had faithfully believed in people just because it was the right thing to do, wasn't that long ago that he'd led an expedition to look for annalise henderson, because he couldn't bear the thought of losing her.

[break][break] They're both shouting now. It didn't matter who heard. Glowering at him from across the room, Ollie glared at the man that he'd once called his best friend, unable to believe the sheer incredulousness - the selfishness - of his actions.

[break][break] Didn't he understand that the only reason that Ollie was yelling at him was to protect him?

Ollie isn't sure who's the one to move first. Maybe they both move together, pulled by the same heat and frustration and anger that undeniable floods through him. Years and years of pent-up emotions that have no choice but to spill out.

[break][break] The eye-contact that he makes with Caleb Harcourt is electric, in the worst possible way, as he met the other's challenging glare with his own. A hand impulsively reached between them, tangling in the front of the other's shirt, dragging Caleb up so that their lips brushed, breathing labored above his.

[break][break] Almost.

[break][break] "You told me that you wanted to be a Head Ranger," he growled. "Is this the way that you think a Head Ranger behaves?"

[break][break] And with that, with no remorse at all for whoever could've been watching, Ollie crashed their mouths together.

[break][break] He kissed Caleb Harcourt with all the ferocity that words couldn't properly convey, all the weeks of stress and frustration and annoyance that had been building and building. Half of it may not even had anything to do with Caleb — months of being stressed about the Amnesty Program itself, his new ascension to Head Ranger, the countless tasks that came upon his desk with no end in sight. It was above his paygrade, like Gunner said, and Ollie hated it. He hated exactly how little was in his control and how little he could do about it. He hated himself for wanting more. He hated himself for wanting Caleb, even, when the other man drove his mad.

[break][break] Hands ripped at the buttons on the Elite Ranger's shirt, dragging his hands down hard abs, as he shoved the other man against the table, sweeping away at whatever stupid papers were on his desk as a knee forced it's way between his legs. His tongue pressed demanding and insistent against the other's lips until he would grant him access — this kiss was punishing in it's abuse, nothing like the sweet, warm kisses of affection and kinship that they'd always shared in the past.

[break][break] Teeth sank down onto the other's bottom lip hard enough to bleed, pulling back as he licked the iron taste of the other's blood on his lips.

He used to be able to say it was because he had spent such a long time away from Hoenn, but the reality was that there were so many mysteries in the world that was left unsolved. It was exactly why Ollie adored traveling so much — the ability to unearth what had not yet been discovered — was an addicting thing all on it's own.

[break][break] Ollie realized, in that moment, that he didn't give a damn. He didn't give a damn whatever past him had thought, what past him had tried to convince himself of and failed. All he cared about was the feeling of the other's hard muscles beneath his touch, the fingers gripping against the other's belt in an attempt to unbuckle him and get to the very source of his desire —

[break][break] They part for air, and Ollie's eyes burn against those eyes of liquid gold, insistent and demanding and needy all at once.

[break][break] But suddenly, his shoulder is being shoved against the wall and muffling the moan that builds up in his chest as instead of Gideon's pants, his own quickly follow, shorn into the coolness of the air. But Ollie can't begin to think about being embarrassed about it, or what that means, hands sliding against the wood-bare wall of the cabin's interior.

[break][break] Lustful moans fill the air as GIDEON GRAVES dedicates himself to his work. Ollie would think him an artist if he didn't know better, as he's taken to sights that he never knew existed in the first place.

[break][break] After all, Ollie considered himself a world traveler. He just never thought Gideon was going to be the one who take him along for the ride.

[break][break] Nails scratch against rough wood boards, legs sliding apart, as he reaches behind him suddenly and tangles his fingers in the other's auburn locks. [break][break] It wasn't really that he was afraid of them — they just creeped him out. He could sit through any type of gore-related scene just fine, and even medical dramas didn't stress him out. But for some reason, something about the supernatural just gave him discomfort in ways that could not be explained.

[break][break] "Yeah," Ollie said with a sigh, turning to the Councilwoman as she suggested that they move on. His eyes glanced towards the crowd of civilians, where the dispatched Rangers were already assisting them towards the exit. Something inside him ached to follow them, but he tore his gaze away again, back to those familiar eyes of amber. "Let's go."

[break][break] CRACKLE. SCRCHH. BOOM.

[break][break] The Head Ranger jerked at the sudden explosion. His eyes went wide, whipping back towards the crowd.

[break][break] "What the hell was that?"

[break][break] But sure enough, there was no answer for him then — just that unsettling mixture of sounds leaking in from the earpieces, sounding more and more jarring by the moment.

[break][break] His head snapped back towards PENELOPE LIVY, who wasted no time in moving, dashing through the crowd like moth to a flame.

[break][break] "What the - Penny!"

[break][break] But there was no stopping her. He didn't even want to, either — his Wyrdeer's hooves had already begun stomping against the city concrete, galloping quickly to match the other's speed, as they headed towards the sounds of the explosions.

[break][break] "Everyone!" he called, trying to ignore the twisting sensation of his gut. "Keep calm! It's going to be okay!"

[break][break] But was it? Was it really?

[break][break] The explosions grew louder and louder, the static growing sharper and sharper, and dread curled in Ollie's stomach, unable to be stopped. His Wyrdeer's hooves skirt against each and every detonation or blast, just as the Pikachu upon his back lit up the path with bolts of varying electricity.

[break][break] Once they were close enough to see who was in danger, the Wyrdeer's horns began to aglow with mysterious light. A LIGHT SCREEN was built up against the city's skyline, an attempt to block whatever direction those explosions were coming from, and protecting the civilians of Mossdeep at large.

[break][break] A beacon of humanity in the impending darkness.

[break][break] Even when the League didn't want to expend resources to save them, it ended up becoming an even larger issue when those people weren't supported. The loud voices of successful defectors like Isaac Merlo and Remiel Calcifet were just one reason, the fact that League agents like annalise henderson or Elise Calcifet were kidnapped was another.
