"yeah, i learned it from you," she taunts with a breathless laugh. MATIAS SILPH had once dumped snow on her with the aid of his avatar powers and the get-back is long overdue. it's a trick that loses its luster after one use, but she's satisfied enough with once. it confirmed things that she thinks he would've otherwise kept denying.[break][break]you were thinking about me.[break][break]she knows. it's in the gratified smile that forms, however briefly, before he wipes it off her face. in true sore loser fashion, he suddenly raises his hips beneath her, startling a gasp out of her. [break][break]annalise expects to be thrown, braces for it, but she comes back down into his lap instead. he's sitting up and there's an arm bracing her back, stopping her from toppling backward.[break][break] she blinks, drinking him in. their faces are close once more, but it feels different this time. this isn't a lesson, it's a test. one that she could stretch out and stall for until she can pin down her feelings or until his patience reaches its end. [break][break]but she doesn't. there's no consideration in the beat between the glance at her lips and the reaction it spins into motion, just a desperation for something, anything. [break][break]her hand finds the back of his neck, just as he'd instructed her earlier before, and she leans in to kiss him.

"be careful of us," annalise tells her altaria with one last pat on the head. the dragon pushes herself into the sky as an ELECTRIC TERRAIN is set up, kicking up a gust of gritty air in her wake. [break][break]her trainer remains, watching carefully as paxton concordas sheds anything unnecessary. after a moment of observation, annalise follows suit, twisting her mega ring off and putting it into the pocket of her shorts. her jacket is shrugged off, then her socks are tucked into her shoes and gently placed beside the rest of her belongings. [break][break]she steps back and gets into position, hands up.[break][break]"i won't need to." [break][break]he breaks into a sprint. she slides a foot slightly back and tenses, waiting for him to get close. overhead, cotton candy fires a DRAGON PULSE at his magnezone.

[break][break]"yeah ... yeah. let's not fight whatever it is up here."[break][break]lightning illuminates their way forward, revealing how much closer it's gotten to their vessel since the last strike. [break][break]she opens her mouth, throat tight, but only a yelp comes out as her head hits the back of the seat and the ship lurches upward. the spacecraft shudders as it passes into the stormcloud, taking the brunt of turbulent winds and electrical discharges. [break][break]"it's zekrom." she leans forward in her seat, peering through the windows. she has a passing wonder whether it's Remiel Calcifet's zekrom, but it makes no sense for it — or him — to be all the way out here. pops of light flash around them as the dragon attacks indiscriminately. while the rest of hoenn has been affected by odd weather changes, suffering through mercurial seasons instead of the predictable tropical weather she grew up in, the desert remains formidably hot. she follows paxton concordas onto the sand, her sunhat bobbing behind him as the ground shifts with each step. [break][break]"yep."[break][break]she follows his lead, leaving her belongings against the rockface. now that they're in the shade, she discards her hat, too, and runs her fingers through her hair to smooth any stray strands. [break][break]while paxton sets up, her altaria floats down to join her. she stretches a hand out to pat her head, feeling sun-warmed feathers beneath her palm.[break][break]"we're ready when you are."

MATIAS SILPH shrugs off her question, then tells her he might tell her if she wins. she hooks her legs around his waist, trying to ignore the press of his body against hers.[break][break] she goes through the steps in her head, shifts against him to get an understanding of how difficult this undertaking will be now that he's trying. the resistance whispers the answer.[break][break]"wait ... "[break][break]there's hesitation in her voice, but she pulls him closer with conflicting confidence. [break][break]"i'm nothing?"[break][break]she pins his leg, twists her hip, tries to flip him while the question still hangs between them. it doesn't matter if it's accurate or insulting, she just wants him to be distracted.

[break][break]annalise clamps her arm over his leg. [break][break]and she rationalizes the feeling. she's just deprived herself for a long time, so her thoughts have become garden weeds trying to root romanticism in anything. [break][break]she twists her hip and shifts his balance. they flip over in the grass, trading places in one motion. MATIAS SILPH never told her to right herself, but she sits up on top of him as soon as his back hits the ground.[break][break] she looks down at him, feeling equal parts validated and confused by the color in his face. [break][break]"do you wanna take a break?" it comes out as a question, but she decisively swings her leg off of him and sits in the grass beside him. her uninvited thoughts already feel stymied by the separation.
