time flows differently down here.

she measures it in hunger pangs and tears that have stopped coming. both make for terrible timekeepers, dulling her perception into a muddied estimation of a couple days to an eternity between the war and now. [break][break]
heavy footsteps descending from above, steady and purposeful. guard shift changes are one of the few routines she has tried to follow since being thrown in here, but this feels too soon. she shrinks away from the cell door regardless, shying away until her back is pressed against the cold wall behind her and she has nowhere left to retreat to.

the footsteps grow louder, closer, until her captor appears. she follows his movements with her eyes, still as an animal cornered.

"we're pretty alike, then! like, i went right back to work after the meteor was warped and i was cleared to leave the hospital. it's just, like, way easier to get over things if you're distracted."

not that annalise is truly over it. it's closer to the truth to say she's pushed it down by getting back to work. she wouldn't be surprised if most of the people in hoenn coped that way — everything that happens here would hit her like a truck if she ever let her mind grow idle. even this thought is pushed away, her smile turning shy as he calls her strength inspiring.

annalise is nothing if not compliant. a rough shove by a guiding hand leads her on a stumbling rightward path away from DEREK HOFFMAN . it's not like she can do anything else — the calculated risks of trying to wriggle away from a gallade and Felix Gallagher 's gun far outweigh the marginal chance that she actually escapes.
