"It's fine! It can't keep attacking you, right? It has to jump back to me eventually!" Ashley calls out, racing towards each classroom door as best he could, kicking each one to find classroom after classroom. No matter what though, he can't see in them. Whether its due to his own lack of schooling, or something else, they all just look dark to him. He roars in frustration, as he kicks another.[break][break]

Nothing. Nada. This was getting ridiculous.[break][break]

Where to go from here? He ponders, he thinks. If Bass were alive, they could fly out, but he isn't, and there's only forward. He hates it, but with every stone cast, every blast of electrical rock power coming their way, they have to try and make an exit.[break][break]

Once they hit the foyer, Spumoni hits the door.[break][break]

Ashley really wish he hadn't.[break][break]

It isn't the foster parents home anymore. It isn't the school on the other side. In fact, the Interdream was toying with them both. But this time, it went for the jugular. A hideout in Kanto Rocket. On the floor, the bleeding body of an Alolan Raichu, short silver hair upon the head of a boy, blood upon his hands. An older man nearby leaving the room like a memory. Cold. Uncaring. Looking at lot like a younger THEO BECKETT. Ashley is too focused on the Raichu though.[break][break]

Jubilee.[break][break]

Ashley's pupils shrink, and his eyes prick with tears as he stares down at Jubilee. His teeth gritting, as another STONE EDGE attempts to collide with him, blocked by the sudden release of Bongo again, catching it in the air and chucking it back, as he pushes Ashley AND Mint forward. Another door. Another way out.[break][break]

Ashley was frozen.

No matter how hateful Cygne is in the moment, it's the result of everything that happened here, every trauma, every kill that took the lives of their Pokemon that put them in that vulnerable moment. So, even when she cuts deeply into him with her words, how he remembers what he's done to Jelly, Bass, and Bongo, he just...[break][break]

Looks at her with pity.[break][break]

It isn't like he's trying to pity her. He wouldn't speak any more until she was done. At least, until those words stopped. She needed an outlet to get this out. Believe it or not, this was in some small way, therapeutic. If no a little hurtful.[break][break]

Knowing his mistakes. The Pokemon. Isaac's eye. The trail of bodies behind him, he doesn't even respond. Just... lets her go.[break][break]

And when the words go to the communicator, he hands it over, silently.[break][break]

For a moment, he takes a deep breath in, and back out. He doesn't fire back with a snarky line, he doesn't respond with his own story. He just sits there. "..."

Turns out, revenge is meaningless. It only leads to suffering, and as Ashley hears those words, hears Landon fire back at him how he can't wave his toy around, Ashley grits his teeth. His legs are weak right now. And-[break][break]

-everything stops at the sound of three pistol shots. 7... or 8... Tinitus rings in his ears, as he grabs the side of his head. His hands stop searching for the Pokeball.[break][break]

Jelly attempts it though, and succeeds, binding Landon in his arms, and even with the Feint at his flank, even with Landon stomping his feet, even with Ashley's pleading eyes, the Bewear cries and doesn't relent. His grip gets tighter. Ashley does the only thing he can.[break][break]

He attempts to stop this before it gets worse.[break][break]

He throws his fist right towards Landon's face in an attempt to knock him out, to save his Bewear. He did train his body, so that punch would definitely hurt, or he hoped it would. Desperation in his silver eyes. His heart is beating in his ears.[break][break]

No more.

Completely taken by surprise, Ashley had been geared so heavily for combat, that he didn't see it coming. That, and with this Ranger placing his fingers slowly to his ears, his brain doesn't compute fast enough to catch it. And neither does Holy Diver.[break][break]

Ashley finds his legs weak, as they shiver and shake, and with the Blissey belching off the muse, Holy Diver hits the floor with a snore, and Ashley, barely able to stay awake, reaches for his pistol.[break][break]

And stops.[break][break]

He just turns his mask back up, turns to Ollie and nods. "Fair-" Yawn. "-enough."[break][break]

Ashley is out cold.

Taken aback, he has to steel himself a little. He doesn't want to argue with Cygne. Truth be told, he liked this woman, so to see her... similar to him on Mt. Pyre, he felt a duty to Isaac Merlo. He stopped, retracted his hand, and took a breath in.[break][break]

"That what they would want too?" He attacks from the other angle. The fallen. He met them on the mountain that day, felt the love they had, and felt the burden, the curse to have to keep going.[break][break]

He knows damn well if they're family, that it isn't.[break][break]

He sits next to Cygne, pulling his knees up towards his chest, and leaning in. "Buried two today. Both of them gave their lives for me. I never asked for it. I never wanted it." He withdraws further into himself, and shivers. He can still feel them behind him. Bongo was the only one he could mention due to him... his wounds. But the other two...[break][break]

"I'm not doing this for you."[break][break]

Not moving a muscle, he sulkily eyes the ground.[break][break]

"Doing this for Isaac. Your Pokemon. Your friends. You don't get to die."[break][break]

If only his comms were working... lightbulb turns on. "Your comm still working?"

It's comforting to know that they are still friends. If there's one thing Jay always has, is that unwavering loyalty. His biggest achilles heel, and his greatest strength. It was nice, knowing that the same Jay was there.[break][break]

He wants to go visit her. He does. Ash wants to meet his half-sister, and be able to tell her everything is going to be okay. As Jayden reaches over, and helps him. Stabilizes him, Ashley just can't help but wipe away the tears, and shake his head.[break][break]

"No." He smiles quietly. "I just... want to make sure she's okay. She's alive, and that's enough. You know that bank heist I asked your permission for?"[break][break]

The reason he wanted to was, initially, a trip with Kep, but he does admit.[break][break]

"I'm putting 200 thousand in an account for her. No name. Nothing. Some things are better left unknown." He's resolute on this point. No chance he would ever speak with her. No chance he ever wanted to. If she can live a life away from Rocket, from him, from the half-brother who would go as far as to kill so many to get to a man that nearly offed her mother...[break][break]

That would be enough.[break][break]

"Can we be friends again?"[break][break]

It's innocent enough. Like a child's hope, piercing through the black tar of their traumatized adulthood.

Comforting. It's at least letting him breathe easier. Even if it was just yesterday.[break][break]

"Well, you know. I was in the foster care system in Kanto. Never did know my birth mom. Or my father until recently." He confesses, the foster parents the only thing Jayden could even relate them to. And even then, they were far and few between. A toxic, vile taste coats his lips. "I found out my mother was a sex worker. Nothing wrong with that, but my father was just another client. When she brought it up to him, he-"[break][break]

The bitterness moves through him, and Ashley finally feels it. He was lucky to be born at all. It just... hits him all at once the gravity of that.[break][break]

"He put my mom on heavy duty drugs, in an attempt to force a miscarriage, or kill her and me both." The words leave his mouth. For what must be the tenth time today, he can't believe how crazy it sounds after speaking about it.[break][break]

"I survived it. She had me, and due to addictive substances... Katherine Sheperd gave me to an orphanage in Kanto, away from my birth father. In a hopes to give me a better life." Sorrow was not a new emotion to him, it just felt weird. He had hated her all this time, and it just clicked recently how much she actually had loved him. His eyes prick with tears, as he wipes them away with his sleeve. "She uh-" His voice is cracking, his lips trembling. "-she got her act together and had another kid. She died years ago. Here, in Hoenn of all places. Her body is buried in Slateport."[break][break]

As for the question of if he did it himself.[break][break]

"Yeah. I did." Confession made.

Regret seeps into his words, and for the first time in quite a long time, the same smile came back to him. Ash felt like he was younger, just sitting across what was his brother. He admits it finally. To himself. To Jayden, Isaac. To those on comms.[break][break]

"Yeah. He is. So are you. And so am I."[break][break]

That regret has him soften quite a bit, as he leans back.[break][break]

"I'm sorry, Jay. For the past couple years. Guess it just took me awhile to get it."[break][break]

Bitter as he is now, he just smiles at Jayden. There's no resentment, there's no hatred, there's no disgust with the Rocket brand. A respect. While they couldn't go back and fix it, he would at least feel comfort knowing that they could start all anew.[break][break]

So. He grins.[break][break]

"Yeah... found out my birth dad tried to OD my birth mother when I was in the womb. So you know. It's like initiation." Was... Ashley chuckling?

"Isn't even my birth name. So make of that what you will." He coos out, telling him that he's still playing to the Rocket angle. The secrets, the subterfuge, the knife in the dark. He's just apologizing. That much is hopefully apparent.[break][break]

He just liked Sawyer more than Sheperd.[break][break]

But to not want to battle, Ashley scowls, and shrugs. "Your call, man. You're not moving past me regardless. Guess we'll just stare at one another aimlessly." What a way to take it. Not a clash of steel, but ideals. Holy Diver pauses, tapping on his little paw as he looks towards Ollie annoyed. Puffed out little weasel cheeks, as he turns away.[break][break]

If it's that way, Ash just leans against the cave wall.[break][break]

"So be my guest. Moment you try, my bud here will Aqua Jet you into a wall."[break][break]

It was that simple. Option A, fight. Option B, retreat. Option C, ceasefire. No D through Z.

It's hard to argue against Jayden, but his irritation isn't with him. No, it's his own inability. A lack of something. Ash quietly stares upwards. He hopes it doesn't make him sound too hypocritical. But he just lays it out there.[break][break]

"Yeah. I know." He closes his eyes. The horrors that those traumas gave them both could fill a small aquarium. He can still see Jubilee when he closes his eyes. It must have been the same. "You cared. You still do. I do too." He tries to rationalize it in his mind.[break][break]

Rocket were, at that moment, bad, right? Ruthless killers. Murderers. But then, it isn't just Jayden that is an exception. So much more.[break][break]

When he feels his wrist snatched, he turns a second, silver eyes back on Jay, and he feels himself smile. It's weak. It's puny. It's painful. But it's something.[break][break]

"That's the thing. Back then, I believed in good and bad like black and white. Now, everything is just muddled. The League has some honest bastards, assholes beyond belief. And then there's people like Isaac, who are like a paragon compared to guys like us." He can feel the thousand yard stare forward, past Jayden. Ash runs a hand down his own face, wiping sweat off of it and shaking his hand off of the sweat. He pulls his wrist away, and just... settles. Or tries to find that common ground.[break][break]

Hard to find that common ground.[break][break]

"I couldn't be what Rocket wanted of me. But then, I found out I can be." He stated it flatly. And adds one more thing to the end of that lovely statement.[break][break]

Nonchalantly, he puts it out into the world. "Killed my dad yesterday."

This was something else.[break][break]

Ashley was lightly panicked at seeing the other person here, vibrant red hair the first thing he can see. But seeing her loudly pointing his direction, Ashley and Bass stare back with a nod. The Roaring Moon, racing through the sky, as Bass came in with a SUPERSONIC to disorient it, as the Carracosta Hydro Pump attempts to blast the beast out of the sky.[break][break]

Ashley calls back out. "Appreciate it! And uh, ditto." His voice isn't panicked, not yet, but down a Buizel to the firey hellscape wasn't a pretty spot to be in. Hopping onto the back of Bass, he grips the dragon's back, as he turns towards Kyrenai.[break][break]

Temporary alliance. If she attacks me, this becomes a much more troublesome fight. He ruffles Bass' head, and nods.[break][break]

"To the sky."[break][break]
