tag notes | With a beeline to the door, Ashley follows after. They were running low on forces, and Ashley's heaviest hitters were either out of commission, or needing a minute to recover. He wasn't sure if Lucia could handle that much power with such a tiny body; electricity would likely be more condensed in that smaller frame. It did have him fearful of what was ahead, but he knew Lucia was right now his club. Sunny and Pulse were his utility.
Pulse lights up the whole doorway, with Ashley using the torch to also help light it up... but with Isaac beginning to pick the lock, Ashley felt that laughter. Further down the hall. Isaac was right to be afraid. Ashley didn't want anything to do with it either.
By the time the lock gives way with relative ease, the door opens. And Ashley's pupils shrink at the room.
Chains hold a metal cage, dried blood upon rusted metal, the spikes below a promise. The room's sconces are not lit, but Pulse's flashlight is enough to make that aspect creepier. But it's not as creepy as the chair behind it. No one sits there, but a pristine, olden chalice sits upon a table, two buckets nearby on another. One of red wine, filled with century old dust, made worse by the smell. Arceus, the smell.
The dust here likely denotes a lack of use, and the wine not being poured out could be something as simple as someone not being in.
"... why is there a chamber like this in their manor? It doesn't make... sense." Ashley inquires, taking steps inside of the room to inspect the prison chamber. But something is now beginning to connect the dots. It's subtle at first, but his silver eyes light up with revelation.
"Pulse... run a search on Jamieson Walker. Something doesn't feel right." He has time to think, so as Isaac got the flashlight part of Pulse, able to move around, the little Rotom begins a search. One thing that he was hoping wasn't the case...
Maria Truesdale was 82, that's what the report read earlier. She died in 1982. But if Elvira was 8 years old, then that meant Maria gave birth at 74. That's not too big of a deal, and adoption was a plausibility. That's not what was off. He realizes the date of Maria's death. 1982. Forty years ago? A signature back then? No, that means they if they died last year, they would have been around for more than forty years doing their work. The League should and WOULD have caught him, had to have!
Pulse responds with something far more twisted.
When Ashley moves closer, the echo in the chamber makes it all the worse when it's read off using the phone's text-to-speech function. Twenty-three Jamieson Walker's found. Three known Jamieson Walkers tied to articles on the Butcher. One who died in 2021's home invasion. One who died in 1983 following the death of Maria Truesdale. One who died in 1945 of mysterious circumstances near the Truesdale Manor after multiple murders.
There it was. Ashley's eyes peered up to Isaac. "I have a really messy theory. Isaac. Fake name? I think they call it a pseudonym. It provides an alibi, and with this being harassing us, if it can control Ghosts, what if-" He swallows bitterly. The Ghosts here, what if they were a defense mechanism fighting the Butcher? The Sableye couldn't be controlled. They even had Cleanse Tags here, something Ghost Types couldn't create.
What... the hell?
bat-tl;dr: - Open to a torture room; really dusty. Lack of use? - Ashley has Pulse do checks on the pg. 2 revelation of the Butcher. -- Three Jamieson Walkers? --- Ashley proposes the idea of a pseudonym. Why would the Truesdales have this... ---- Unless...?
