Clearly today was the ‘day of lost children’ because look what happened. Even more lost kids started turning up!

And then…

“Cyn! You didn’t do anything too stupid while you were away, did you?” he asked the Wooloo, giving her a reproachful gaze. Even the ovine seemed to tremble under the weight of that stare, though.

He very nearly missed her offer of help, so with a grateful nod, he then lowered himself to the ground so that his passenger could hop off and stretch his legs.

“Don’t go too far now,” he warned the kid—he looked like a naughty little scamp, after all.

Turning to his companion, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

“You know, give them food and they quiet down. Wonder why that is.”

He then continued to scour the crowd for his companion’s parents, hoping that they would find them soon. The Wooloo stayed near them now, bleating quietly and looking up at all the… all the sparkly lights, all the everything she could see.

What was it with him and getting into danger? Hadn’t he learned enough from his time in the alternate-universe form of Hammerlocke—

Absolutely not! Not at all!

So here he was, no Flying-types on his side—however he did have a large Tyrantrum he could ride around on (and give anyone else a lift should they need it). Moment the Magmortars started releasing spheres of incendiary artillery, though…

“I highly advise everyone to cover your ears!” he yelled from atop his current ‘ride’, the goofball of a buttface he called Gor.

“It’s going to get real loud in a few seconds!” he added before stuffing his fingers into his own ears as well; as his Tyrantrum let out an ear-pierching, shrieking, Roaring noise to drive off any further wild Pokémon attackers coming in from around their area!

“You know, I can’t wait until you’re big enough so I can take you out for a ride.”

He was talking with his Mantyke now, who was gently splashing him with water as she floated in the undulating surf. The two were tired from swimming today, and he feared he’d used up all his sunblock because today was definitely one of the hottest days on record.

“It’s such a shame I had to leave my Mantine behind in Alola… however, I swear… once you evolve… I’ll take out on the waves. Show you how this goes.”

Between the two of them was the shiny, sparkling thing they found while swimming through the churning surf earlier in the day.

To be fair, he didn’t own a single Flying-type Pokémon… as he was closer to the sea than what most believed.

“I… don’t have a Flying-type anything. Nothing that has wings. Does a Magnezone count? But then that… antenna would hurt up—” he trailed off, unable to hold back the bark of laughter that was about to exit him.

How does one even ride a Magnezone, anyway?!

“How do you deal with the food situation, then?” he asked her once he’d managed to take a few bites from his corn dog. “You just go out to the nearest city and eat there? What about your Pokémon, how do you feed them?”

Since he was a shepherd, he had some knowledge of how to make Pokétreats to feed his unruly herd once they were sick and tired of eating grass.

Yes, Arja the Mareanie was still in the time-out corner today—to give his Mantyke enough time to recover from the teasing ordeal.

(He suspected it was borderline torturing; who knew Mareanie were that unstable?!)

Either way… he was accompanied by the Mantyke as they took another dip for today. What would they find this time?

He couldn’t help himself but watch the Mantyke as she slid through the waters without a singular care in the world. The sea was her natural habitat, after all.

“Hey,” he continued as the kid riding on his shoulders was just about ready to throw another bitch fit, “why don’t I get you something sweet while we’re looking for your parents? ‘s that okay with you?”

Never had he gotten a ‘yes!’ so fast in his life.

So for a few minutes Jack had to trail behind the carnival staffer as he bought a caramel-dipped apple and handed it to his passenger, thankfully diverting another disaster.

He’d gotten so swept up looking for the kid’s parents he didn’t realize that the staffer had already found the other kid’s lost companions—and yet here he was, still carrying the now-eating child around on his shoulders when he was approached by—

Over before the two parties met, the blue-ribbon’d Wooloo would trot around behind her other fellow ovine, sniffing the air and picking up the obvious scent of caramel. It was everywhere.

Before long, though they’d met up with a—oh dear deer.

“Wha—Cyn!” he exclaimed as his Wooloo began preening and giving him the ‘cute eyes’, usually her way to get out of trouble.

“Where’d you run off to?!” he followed up a few moments later. No way was he going to be fooled by the cute eyes.

Hell no.

As it was, this particular Wooloo that had wandered off and had easily spotted another of her kind was… excited.

Like, Cyn had legitimate sparkles in her eyes the moment she saw another one of her own wandering around here!

(Of course, like all Wooloo that a certain harassed shepherd owned, they were all prone to running away from him and causing trouble.)

“Baa!” this ovine would exclaim, and a sparkling bright blue ribbon tied to one of her ears would definitely catch their eye.

Who, or where, was her owner?

Over on the near-opposite side of the carnival grounds, Jack was running around with a staffer; they were both looking for a child’s missing parents!

“Hold on, hold on, okay? We’ll find your mother soon!” he reassured the male child riding on his shoulders from breaking out into another bratty fit.

“Help,” he mouthed quietly to the equally exasperated-looking carnival staffer, who was also accompanied by another lost child—belonging to a different family!

Okay, today was looking cautiously optimistic for him because for the first time he’d applied alcohol to disinfect his hands they didn’t sting or reel backwards in pain, which meant one thing:

He could go diving into saltwater again!

“About time!” he breathed out, accompanied by the Mantyke this time as they both went into the surf, him smiling at his Water-type as she was literally having the time of her life as she undulated through the waters, while something caught his eye—

And he immediately grabbed it.

(Nothing would ever beat the insane shit he saw in that alternate-reality Galar, though. But then again, was that a figment of his imagination? He wasn’t too sure. He would have to check in with sergei dachev sometime soon…)

Thankfully he’d already finished the food he’d brought along, and he realized he was hungry when he felt his stomach rumbling.

“As long as you don’t throw up when you get back to your show later after this, then I’m down!”

Today was a quieter day, since this time he only had his Mantyke out along with him today.

(Arja had earned the time-out corner because of a… certain incident that happened a few days ago.)

“Hey, no need to be so panicky, it’s safe out here, you’re the only one…” he eased the Mantyke, who quickly took to the water, little stubby fins flapping around excitedly—and that was even before she came back with something between her teeth.

He then remembered to unstick the earplugs that he’d crammed in just before the really loud explosion of noise shook the clearing. Yes, listening to things way above the so-called ‘safety limit’ was indeed damaging to one’s eardrums—and that was just the beginning!

(He also idly wondered if he still had time to drop by the Magikarp Fishing booth he saw earlier since the show looked like it still had a few more intermissions in between this one and the next.)

How he hated getting paper cuts!

He still couldn’t dive into the salt water without coming back out less than five seconds after, so Arja the Mareanie and his Mantyke were on swimming duty again.

Not that the two Pokmon minded, however… yeah.

“What’d you two get this time?” he asked as he watched the two approach him, trying to balance something between themselves.
