Well, that could have gone a lot better. Their attacks in unison were blocked by some of the woman's compatriots, carrying an Unown each as Soyeon frowned to herself. Of course it wasn't going to be this easy. The skirmish continued after a while, until both were hit by a HIDDEN POWER that strikes the two women. Taken by Surprise, Soyeon tried to call out to Selena but found herself unable as they quickly were warped away to another area.

Soyeon stood beside Selena, the scientist's brows furrowed as the two were approached by a mysterious woman. She spoke of something that eluded both women. She did have a certain elegance to her, causing Soyeon to flush a tad. Certainly not the kind of woman that she enjoyed, but more refined. "We don't have any idea as to what that is." She said, calling out Artemis. "But I think you'll find we're more than equipped to handle ourselves." Waiting in unison with Selena, Artemis would draw a Leaf Blade with her quills before firing it towards the enemy.

He had actually brought samples of both with him?! Soyeon watched as he'd show the case by his feet with cautious but optimistic eyes. "Not my own, but i have several favors to use back at the university that I can call in. If you'll follow me, Mr. Young." Soyeon quickly packed her laptop up and cleaned off the table before leaving with the man in tow. Her heels clacked along the ground while they traveled to their destination.

They arrived at the university campus as Soyeon would be able to rub her shoulders with the right people and get a proper laboratory that was private from the rest. They went inside as Soyeon turned the plastic flag outside to a red color, signaling that the room was currently in use. She then looked to Callan and nod her head along, motioning to the briefcase.

"There, that should give us some needed privacy. Now then, if you'll do us the honors, Mr. Young. I'll be right beside you."

Soyeon would purse her lips together at Skylar's advice. She'd remain a bit hesitant about the story, even if it did seem quite legitimate, and would have to reserve her thoughts until after this little interaction. But for now, she'd cast her gaze down to the Galarian Meowth currently dead set on trying to remain upright in the water. His splashes were adorable and Soyeon almost found herself fawning over the little guy. A laugh left her lips against her will, as she'd flash her eyes back towards the Meowth's owner.

"A sea captain, hm?" Soyeon repeated. "Do you go out often? I'd love to go out there one day. I'm not much of a swimmer, but I've always enjoyed feeling the sea breeze. It does make sense the more I think about it now." How could she be so daft at times? No wonder the poor Meowth was struggling to learn how to swim so fiercely. They were a species that resided in an environment that facilitated long stretches of journey on top of it. "Sorry again for the mixup."

She extended her hand and shook with Skylar's, her meek smile growing ever so slightly wider. "Nice to meet you, Captain Dross. I'm Soyeon, an Ultra Space scientist and aspiring Pokémon Professor. This is Vacoule, my lab assistant." The baby Bulbasaur would let out a soft cry towards Skylar, appearing content in between Soyeon's arms as he'd look down at Dorado with a clear interest in trying to float.

"Is there anything I can do to help you two?"

The resulting explosion was heard for miles.

But thanks to the speedy retreat of Lyune, the party was able to escape just in the nick of time. The Vikavolt, as threatening and aggressive as it was, was less lucky than they had been. The force of the explosion had blown apart its carapace and sent it flying away, crying into the ground below. Soyeon peered back with a troubled expression. Even it had been trying to kill them, it was still a Pokemon that she had oddly found herself enjoying. Maybe there would be one back home? Once the trio were out of danger, the scientist would breathe a sigh of relief.

"Well, that's over. Set us down and I'll begin retrieving the samples we need." She said happily, then bounding around as she'd use some tools to take away little bits and pieces of things about. Rock, the bamboo shoots, maybe some strange miscolored substance. But her foot knocked aside a piece of the huge Vikavolt's carapace as she slowly knelt down to look at it. A bit charred and cracked at the edge, but usable. She'd throw it in as well then return back to the group.

"Apologies for the wait, but I believe this should do. Shall we return home?"

While she had only been fairly interested in what Callen was talking about. But as her eyes scanned over the pictures shown to her, her interest was piqued. One more than the other, but commercializing both did have their own sort of opportunities for people. Her face leaned closer towards the pictures, an awestruck expression firmly plastered on her face. She focused on the first thing shown off while processing what she had just been told.

"Fascinating. By the general appearance, I'd have to really guess that this must be a mineral of some kind. But producing worm holes when they're destroyed is what has really piqued my interest. Do the wormholes created by this last for a set duration, or does it vary depending on the sample? How stable are the wormholes? Is it a one way travel method or can it go both ways?" Her barrage of questions at Callan launched and only continued as the adhesive was shown next.

"Ah, Naganadel adhesive. Although the mild discoloration as well as being made from their fluids and not the byproduct does make it look different than its regular poison." She rubbed her chin in thought, staring at the picture while debating on whether or not another person she knew could have something worth noting about this. "I have a colleague that has put a theory forward that could assist you. It's not been proven or disproven for its...methods that would be needed to verify, but it involves Poipole and Naganadel biology. His assertion is, theoretically of course, that their genetic make up contains a more concentrated and stronger adhesive than the kind they're known for. And that the process of chambering and expelling that adhesive from their body dilutes it by only a minor amount. An honest sort of theory, but I think you can guess as to why it's remained a theory for so long."

Soyeon couldn't say that it wasn't an interesting application of the sciences. "A noble endeavor. " She commented, stricken with a sense of curiosity about the everyday applications of what Ultra Space had to offer.

"Although, I must warn you, even if you've heard it before, this is a dangerous frontier that you've set your sights on. No matter how much we colonize or grow familiar with it, Ultra Space is still incredibly dangerous. There are things we have yet to learn, even after countless expeditions inside. That being said…"

The woman smiled at Callan, finishing off the final remnants of her coffee while setting it down next to the other empty ones. "I would be more than willing to assist you, but first, what kinds of projects would you need my research to help with? If you have any specifics, I can point to work I've done that should prove useful to you."

"Mm?" Soyeon would look up as a voice spoke up to her. To be completely honest, she was so far in the zone that she hadn't even noticed that the clock had changed from the time it had read before, being about 9:26. But standing before her would be a well dressed(?) man in a blazer and Spinda inspired attire. She found it charming and adorable, letting out a soft chuckle at the attire while she'd flash a smile at the man before her. "Ah, Mr. Young. It's quite an honor to meet one-on-one with somebody such as yourself. Thank you for fitting me into your schedule." Her hand fell into his, shaking it with a certain firmness that one gave who knew their way around professional meetings. Soyeon hadn't listened to any kind of music of his as she was much more of a classic woman herself. Outside of that, she was a bit of a novice. After all, she just recently understood what EDM was!

Soyeon looked back down at her laptop as she'd slide it over to show Callan. There wasn't really any threat of showing any important documentation, but more so making graphs and putting an image to their findings. Callan would see several views of one strange looking mushroom brought up across the desktop of a kind of plant "Not a breakthrough, persay, but we've uncovered quite the sample from the latest expedition into the Ultra Crater. It's an odd finding for sure, but one that's special. See, it has some rather odd property of having cells that have regenerative properties. But these aren't as specific to the Ultra Crater as their kind, meaning that should we provide a suitable climate and such, it may be possible to see what allows them that property. Meaning that we may possibly have some way of replicating it for related fungi."

Soyeon caught herself as she would cautiously part some hair from her ears, her cheeks flushed a tad. "Sorry. I tend to ramble a bit at times...But that's what I've been busy with as of late. So did you wish to speak about Ultra Space?"

The wind was howling around them as Soyeon steadied herself with help from Nikolaj behind her. He roared something that she could faintly here, although she had taken a stab at what she thought the question was. "We'll need enough force to uproot the ground and expose the material before a heat source can be applied. Luckily, we have a more than capable volunteer, if the Vikavolt is willing to help us." Fortunately, they were set up just for that. Soyeon whistled out for Ignis, who would dive in the direction the gang where going before then stopping besides the Flygon as he readied himself. The crackling of ground sounded off around them, plates shifting, geysers singing as steam rose from within. Freya asked how big the explosion would be as Soyeon gave her an apologetic glance.

"It should be enough to deal with the pest." Her grip on the saddle tightened. "Once the exposed to a heat source, the resulting chemical reaction should cause ignition from where the sulfuric vents are located. I imagine that we'll only have a handful of seconds to leave as soon as we shoot our attacms towards the core." Soyeon finished as she waited until everyone was ready, then nodding her head at the two. "Alright, on my mark. 3…2…"

KRRRRRBLM!

The ground was thrown into pieces around them, the Vikavolt's head burrowing inside of the earth as its two pincers were seen, tearing out a chunk and electricity crackled around it. The woman jumped back in her seat as the grounds core was revealed. Unlike the barren wasteland, the interior almost looked like a roots of some kind, with a faint white substances traveling inside of thinly veiled tunnels. Her eyes went to that and back to Freya as she frowned. "Now, with the amount that will react to the fire attack, I would suggest that you start racing off now. This is going to be rather big."

She turned back to her Charizard before a finger was pointed at the core. "Now! Inferno again!" The Charizard omce again gathered the flames in its maw before blasting it towards the core. As the attack would sail towards the core, Soyeon recalled Ignis and screamed out to Freya, "Go, go, go!"

Well, at least Elinor understood why most people would be adverse to taking such a stance against what had happened to Eris. She was still clearly irritated, but such was why Soyeon was emotional at times. Elinor did seem to not be too far gone from the realm of believing that she was crazy for wanting to make sure the two didn't get themselves into any more trouble, but that last tidbit did make her have to stop and ponder.

"That...they don't want to be saved?" Soyeon repeated, furrowing her brows in thought. It wasn't really something that she had thought of before if she was being frank. Who would take a look at the many conflicts in Hoenn over the past few years and say that nobody would want to be liberated from this? Of course, she wasn't going to admit this. Soyeon wasn't as prideful as most but that didn't mean that such things eluded her. "I don't understand..." she admitted to Elinor while sitting down on the floor across from her. The scientist's expression was almost perfect to be framed. The bitter confusion and conflict storming inside of her mind right now was palpable.

"Why would anybody, let alone a teenager, want to live like this? Isn't it your job as League officials to be trying to help and do just that?"

Oh Arceus, that giggle. It made Soyeon perk up at bit just hearing it come from her. She wasn't certain why but she imagine Selena to be a pretty stern person at a first glance. It was nice to be proven elsewise as a change. But a Ferroseed would explode into the scene, literally. it sent some huge chunks of ice at the two women. Soyeon couldn't tell if it was premeditated or not but wouldn't be too surprised if it was the case. Selena's Delphox was quick to melt the projectiles and even quicker to throw out a Pokeball to captured it. Once it was one, she'd mention a story of hers that must have popped into her head.

"Oh? Team Rocket in Unova?" Soyeon repeated after Selena, leaning a little closer as her eyes shined forth with the natural curiosity of a child discovering something new for the first time. "Now you've got my attention. I'm all for stories about my home region."

Soyeon sat just outside of the café that had been near the block surrounding Mauvile University. The scent of dough and desserts mixed with the caffeine and cream of their drinks permeated through the air as the scientist brought her phone out of her purse. Fingers drummed the face of the desk while her eyes drifted across the screen for an update on the person she had been meeting here. Callan Young, one of the names that seemed to be everywhere in Hoenn these days. The musician and elite four member led his own band, Teravolt, and now he was a record label of some kind? She sometimes wondered how he even had time to eat with what felt like all of his meetings.

"Perhaps I should have left a little later..." Soyeon said as she eyed the clock. 8:12 a.m. Their meeting had been planned for 10 a.m., but the busy worker had a tendency to arrived incredibly early in order to be on time. There was little in between for her, as she was an incredibly heavy sleeper. She was reminded of this solely because of Vacoule nudging her awake in order to finish a lab result due several minutes ago. The newborn Bulbasaur rested beside her, his head napping against her lap. "Bulb...bah..."

"Oh well, I suppose I can work on some things while I'm waiting." She reached for a black messenger back by her seat and pulled out a laptop. With a quick boot up and entering her credentials, the woman would log into her desktop back at the lab remotely and begin to work at the cafe.

When the time had come for the meeting, Soyeon had several mountains of paperwork surrounding the table, alongside two empty coffee cups as she worked on downing a third. Dark chocolate roast with a hint of cream. A personal favorite.
