A mighty arm met a mighty leg, the resulting collision was devastating for both parties. The mythical pokemon’s powerful blow may have been repelled by the upward axe kick, but there was no way to avoid the power behind the Urshifu’s blow. The force of Dragon Hammer rippled through Medicham’s leg, badly injuring it. The meditate pokemon panted and took a knee, unable to bear weight on his left leg.[break][break]

There was nothing more Kaname could do, nothing left to do except recall his Medicham and run; however, his opponent had other plans. His heart dropped into his stomach as he watched the man throw a glowing orb through the air and explode with brilliant light. For the second time that night, Kaname bore witness to the power of Terastillization.[break][break]

There stood a shimmering, red crystalline Urshifu roaring with newfound power. The scientist’s hand trembled as he fumbled quickly for the right pokeball. The Urshifu rushed in, empowered by the tera shard as it unleashed a flurry of blows at Maverick’s command. Medicham inhaled as pink energy shimmering over its body, a preemptive Recover to help survive the flurry of blows striking it.[break][break]

Kaname finally ripped the correct sphere from his belt and pressed the button, a beam of light streaking across the cavern to absorb a battered, now unconcious Medicham back into a protective pokeball. What Kaname did next, anyone could’ve predicted; he turned and simply ran away, hoping his opponents were too tired and too worn down to give chase.[break][break]

Love, honor, duty. They’re all sick things. Those principles drive people and pokemon to do insane things, like leaping into the jaws of a great dragon. Heroism should be a sin, Kaname thought; what good did it do for Mienfoo to become nothing more than the sickening sound of crunching bones and red liquor wetting the palate of that great beast? Yes, it likely saved his life, but at what cost? Time, effort, a bond formed that will never be able to be replaced. These things he can never get back. That’s what the Mienfoo offered up to the jaws of death. Heroism is death. [break][break]



Kaname Fujihara did not have a heroic bone in his body. He wouldn’t go out of his way to sacrifice himself, not like that; he was calculating, selfish even. His survival meant everything because dead men do not accomplish their goals. Would he have survived with the heroic intervention of that brave martial arts-using pokemon? Not likely, but he knew that. The realization that you are selfish and a coward is not an easy pill to swallow, especially not when the realization comes from the fact you are running for your very life. Nonetheless, he would swallow it down, because life is funny like that. A near death experience was all it took for Kaname Fujihara to admit: “I am a coward. I am selfish. I prioritize myself.” A renewed sense of self, snatched from the jaws of death, but how much of it is the trauma of the event and how much of it is the truth? Time would be the only judge.[break][break]



Still though, he ran, ran like his thoughts raced… ran away from that beast who loved so viciously. There were lessons here, about life; not that he had the time to ponder them running for his life. The more distance he put between that beast and himself, the further most of those lessons were. Only one thing was certain to him: heroism means death.[break][break]

The meditate Pokémon was panting, even after using Recover; it was clear this battle was starting to wear him down. “There has to be a way to end this quickly...” He murmured, clenching his fist so tightly his nails began to dig into the palm of his hand.[break][break]



He took a deep inhale followed by a hard exhale. If his Medicham looked tired, Kaname looked even worse off than his Pokémon. He’d run and run through Granite Cave and the Ultra Sea caverns, avoiding death and capture. His night didn’t start like this, but it was going to end like a night from hell. The scientist gazed at the mythical Pokémon and took a breath; Kaname didn’t have to win this fight, he just had to survive. He was willing to do anything to survive, to escape.[break][break]



As the Urshifu bounded forward with thundering steps, Kaname’s mind raced. The wushu Pokémon was clearly coming in for a decisive blow, but what if he countered with one of his own? “Counter whatever comes with Axe Kick!” His voice sounded sure, but inside his stomach churned. As the Urshifu finally closed the distance, his arm radiating a draconic energy that he intended to bring down on the Medicham. “Now!” The grunt roared, his Medicham’s leg igniting with a silver light as it kicked upward, attempting to intercept the Dragon Hammer with its bulbous leg. [break][break]


It was a move made in desperation, one of his last chances, Kaname knew that. The recoil from the impact would severely damage his Medicham, but it was a necessary cost to pay. There was no hope of winning this fight, but maybe, just maybe he catch his opponent off guard enough to escape. [break][break]
