The National Museum of Natural History, a Slateport City gem, and the focus of Kaname’s excursion from Ever Grande City. Ever since moving to Hoenn, he’d wanted to visit the museum but between juggling his cover as a lab assistant and his duties to Team Rocket, time was not readily available. This, however, was a rare moment of freedom from both and he seized the opportunity to enjoy something more… “normal”.

Kaname walked the museum with no real purpose, wandering wherever his burgeoning interest took him. He’d flitted from exhibit to exhibit, drinking the information in until he was satisfied. What catches Kaname’s eye as he strolls about is a painting on the wall, featuring a quartet of unfamiliar pokemon, painted with care and dedication. He approaches quietly, not wanting to disturb the other man viewing the artwork but manages to catch his mumbled question.

“If they’re truly the punishing type, then everyone would be found wanting.” Kaname responds, crossing his arms over his chest as he studied the painting.

As Kaname strode through the woods, his veluza brushed against his hand and changed direction. "Hm? What is it?" Kaname asked as his pokemon shot ahead of him, enticing him to follow. The jettison pokemon moved quickly through the woods, on the trail of some scent it had caught and Kaname struggled to keep pace. "Where are you going!" He shouted, but it soon became clear as his veluza was now chasing a galarian ponyta. The water/psychic type used Fillet Away, shedding pieces of her flesh to increase her speed and gain ground on the unique horn pokemon. Kaname's veluza, having closed the distance thanks to shedding her flesh, used Night Slash on the galarian ponyta several times, knocking it to the ground and weakening it.

Kaname panted, having joined the scene as the veluza was primed to take a bite out of the ponyta. "Enough! Leave it alone!" He barked at the fish pokemon, causing it to back off as he threw a safari ball at the wounded ponyta.

The intrepid duo of Kaname and his veluza made their way back into the forest, unaware of the pokemon watching them from the branches. A singular applin, poked its eyes out from the protective fruit shell as it watched. Without warning or cry, the applin withdrew into its shell and used rollout, launching itself at the pair from on high. It was unexpected as it slammed head on into Nodachi, causing the veluza to let out a sharp cry. "What the hell!" Kaname shouted, as the applin landed nearby and let out a victorious cry. "You- Nodachi, use aqua jet and get this thing outta here!". Kaname's veluza gathered water around herself and launched itself at the Applin, striking it with such force that it went flying.

Her grin was bright, infectious. It reminded him of less difficult times, like the sun breaking through a cloudy day.

“Ah, we’ve got common ground in coffee preferences, it’s a good sign! At least I’ll be able to remember your coffee order...” He chuckled, watching her start the coffee pot. “ I’ve always found the smell of coffee grounds to be enticing, it’s one of those aromas you can’t get over.” Kaname mused, crossing his arms over his chest.

“I wouldn’t worry about it, I can definitely subsist on coffee. No need to worry.”

The trees began to clear as Kaname and his veluza reached the edge of the forest and found themselves near a large lake. On the bank lay a tirtouga, basking in the sunlight. Kaname recognized the Pokémon as a fossil Pokémon, a creature he learned about during evolutionary biology classes.

If I recall, tirtouga are believed to be the ancestors of many turtle Pokémon. Such a creature was fascinating, but a relic of the past won’t help me. Kaname had already made up his mind, motioning for the veluza to follow him as he turned and walked back into the forest.

Kaname nodded as Zev spoke, picking up a vial to inspect the particulate that had accumulated at the bottom and marked some notes on his clipboard.

So the League and Rocket, at each other’s throats? Regularly at each other’s throats by the sounds of it. Kaname frowned a little at thought. His personal little gamble to expand his standing by working for Illeana Reyes just had the stakes double, maybe even triple. The idea of being caught by the League when they were at war made his stomach hurt. If the League wouldn’t kill him for treason, Rocket would to protect their assets.

On top of all that, there’s been members who defected. That was another wrench to complicate matters. “So, when you say defectors. Who are we talking about? Grunts, I assume. People who couldn’t handle what Rocket is really about?” Kaname asked, glancing at Zev from the corner of his eye.

”Furthermore… What kind of information are we racing the League for? Information on Infinity Energy? The rifts? All of it? I think it’s important to be on the same page, so I know what to…” Kaname paused and looked fully at Zev. “So I know what to prioritize.” He wasn’t an idiot, not that he thought Zev thought he was. Kaname was just trying to make things clear, for both of their sakes.

Kaname let out a relieved sigh upon catching the voltorb, however Nodachi remained on high alert. The duo continued through the forest area until they spied a Phanpy, chowing down on a fallen berry. It’s cute… but not really the kind of thing I need for my research or for combat. After a little thought, Kaname and his veluza headed off in a different direction, in search of other Pokémon.

As Kaname dedcided it would be best if he and his veluza cut through some bushes, only for Kaname to catch his foot on something and stumble. He'd knocked a very unhappy hisuian voltorb from its resting spot. "What the heck is tha-" Kaname's thought was cut short as the voltorb has roused itself into a rage for being awoken and began to fire a barrage of Seed Bombs at the pair. "Shit! Nodachi! Slash!" Kaname shouted, running to avoid to being hit by the exploding seeds.

Meanwhile the veluza's pectoral fins took on a preternatural shine and enlarging as it moved over the land, dodging the exploding seeds as she was propelled by her own rage. As the veluza got in close, her body stiffened as she rammed the voltorb, slashing it with her glowing fins. The voltorb relented its assault as the water/psychic type attacked it.
"That's enough!" Kaname called to the veluza, throwing a Safari ball to catch the sufficiently softened up voltorb.

"Haha, I'm sure there's no reason at all to be nervous. I'm sure I'll get use to the routine very quickly." He fully expected the transition to go smoothly, after all, there was a calming air about Illeana. Her relaxed demeanor put whatever anxieties he had at ease. This was going to be different than working at a Rocket-owned lab, maybe it would even be a little fun?

Emails, schedule, and then prep the machines... seems simple enough." He chirped, watching her slip past her desk and make a b-line for the coffee station. "I'll have to bring some tea in, I prefer it over coffee... but if it's all we've got..." He chuckled and trailed over toward the coffee station, and to Illeana.

"I prefer it with lots of cream and sugar. How about you?"

League and Rocket relations? What an odd thing to ask, but Zev probably had a reason to ask. "I wouldn't say I'm that familiar with the state of relations, outside of the fact that conflict is constantly boiling forth." That was the truth, outside of the obvious conflicts, Kaname wasn't really aware of the League-Rocket relations.

"Outside of the information necessary to do my job, I frankly do not know much. My transfer from Kanto to Hoenn was sudden and I didn't have much time to catch myself up on the status of Team Rocket's machinations inside of the region."

As Zev gestured to the centrifuge, Kaname took the chance to pull his specimens from the device and place them into racks. "Being entirely truthful, sir, I spent the majority of my time reading more about the research that has occurred in Hoenn than I did anything else. I was more concerned with trying to be a useful asset in the lab..."

The Safari Zone, Kaname had heard a lot about it. It was mostly a conservation effort, but they allowed trainers to come catch a curated selection of pokemon. The preserve alone was enough to draw Kaname, but the chance to catch extraordinary pokemon was too good to pass up!

Once inside, Kaname opted to release his veluza, Nodachi, from her pokeball. The water/psychic type floated silently beside him as he strolled through the preserve. Kaname reached to lightly pat her scaled side, reassuring the tense predator. He'd have to be mindful of her attacks as the Safari Zone staff asked him to not disturb the environment.

The million dollar question, who was he working for? He bit the inside of his lip, this conversation could either go very well or very poorly. Kaname steeled his resolve before speaking to the Rocket Beast. If Zev felt any kind of way about the situation... Kaname could likely kiss his head goodbye.

"That is correct, sir. I've recently gained employment as her lab assistant. What can I do for you?"

Kaname walked down the hall, sighing softly. He'd be pulled from his current task and politely asked to assist a superior with a task of their own. It was mildly frustrating to be pulled away from his own work, but from what he understood it shouldn't take that long. The man sighed softly, waving his badge across the sensor to open the doors, and walked into the lab to see oscar clayton and a nearly gutted pokecenter machine.

Kaname pursued his lips and nodded to himself. This was going to take much longer than he thought. "Kaname Fujihara, reporting for duty. I heard you needed a little help." His introduction was brief, the man with the pokecenter machine likely didn't care for more than that. After all, he just wanted an assistant- so Kaname would happily play the part.

The man with the monochrome hair approached the pokecenter machine and began to look it over, inspecting it for any signs of damage or other glaring issues. "Can I ask what it is you're trying to do here? So I can have a better idea of what it is you need from me and what I can do for you, sir?"

As Illeana stepped away, Kaname took a breathe and entered the lab. He marveled briefly at the equipment, much nicer than stuff he'd used when he was an undergrad and graduate student.

"You know I'm a little nervous... starting over is always just a little scary, right? But I'm excited to be working for you, ma'am." He flashed her a quick smile. It was true, he was excited to be working for her, but maybe not for all the right reasons.

"Is there anything you typically do in the morning that I can do for you? Calibrations to the machines? Pull data analysis? Bring you coffee?"
