Jett nodded. ”Aye.” He agreed to the condition, it was a fair one, one he could agree with ease. He clicked his tongue to gather the attention of his Cyclizar. ”Let’s try not to lose, alright?” He said with a pat on the top of his head before he went into his pocket.

He grabbed a coin, balanced it on his thumb, and got ready to flick it. ”When it hits the ground, we go.” He said as he flicked it up, high into the air; it flipped again and again, slowing down until the moment it bounced against the dirt, making a loud clink as it hit against a small stone.

But Cyclizar needed nothing more to get going, his legs kicked into gear, cutting across, going towards Rustboro, the path was uneven, unequal, and it was a long distance away, but he didn’t consider anything else.

Jett couldn’t hide the small laugh of his own. ”Looong story, I’ll be sure to tell ya later on how.” He said as he gripped his own pokeball, he didn’t want Cyclizar struck by this, so there was little to no point but to take out another pokemon he could trust in fully, Remoraid. Holding it within his palm, it wasn’t quite the way in which someone would grip a revolver, that would have been too uncomfortable, but rather he held her gently, Lucky.

”Lock on.” He commanded Lucky, her eyes began to glow as she began to lock onto her target before clicking into place, another move she knew that would be called on, Hydro pump. ”Fire.” He said, the pokemon in his hand let loose a large blast of water as if to not be left behind by the support. ”Thanks for the cover.” And his Cyclizar, Bubby, followed along with a hum of sorts as if to agree with his trainer.

Confused, struck, and everything else, the Steelix infront of them finally began to glow, grow brighter and brighter in that moment, as if going through an evolution. The ridges alongside its lower jaw began to double, its mouth became more curved. Its eyes glowed in a bright blue, and a series of rotating steel spirals appeared around it before it dug into the ground, and hid once more, the shaking moving away from them as if commanded by its trainer.

”So it ain’t natural huh? Keep an eye out, we might be dealing with a ground specialist, in a cave like this they could pop out fro-.” Then the ground began to shake, it was different to before, far more intense. ”Lucky, Ice Beam on the ceiling, reinforce it.” He said as his pokemon followed along, even as he was being thrown around; it was better than being buried.

Jett laughed, it was a small one but he still let it loose. ”Course I hear it, looks a little like a Donphan, just way bigger and meaner.” He said as he tried not to look behind him, confident now that this person was holding on tight to him. ”Jett Roan, your knight in his pure white steed.” He opted instead to poke a little fun at the hopes of a dream instead.

It was dangerous, and he disliked it, the mist forced them into another world, the world of dreams and worries were impossible things were hiding within, what was real, and what was fake was always a strange shift, and he wasn’t sure which one would end up as which, but he could see it, the ground shaking more and more as it came closer and closer.

”I’ve got an idea, what kind of moves does that Duskull of yours know?” He said as he began to prepare Bubby, his Cyclizar for a potentially dangerous maneuver.

Jett wasn’t the type of man to look for someone, but take advantage of what was to come, he had to. There was something else to it; he knew it, that the reason he was searching for this person was a very specific one. It wasn’t like he was trying to preach, but that was the kind of person he was.

It was something different entirely, he might have been projecting onto someone else, but it could have been another issue altogether. Whoever this Hitoshi Inoue was, it wasn’t someone he could well leave alone. A killer who did it so naturally, his pokemon healed by his ralts which had been working hard.

But even then, that wasn’t fine.

A large collection of individuals, the movement of heads, but the most important thing he had done is to state that two of the elite four would be in the place that he was. ”He’ll show up.” That was what he had told himself, because he was certain of that one fact.

He had him tightened, held tight in his grasp; but the moment he made a real effort that was different, Jett held him there as long as he could. Letting him pull away on his own was a mistake he didn’t want to make, so he pushed him away once he had shared the information he held.

”Yeah? Well, they’re tough scalps to get. But fuck all of that.” It might’ve been the first time he had sworn in their engagement, money for lives, and the casualness in which this man spoke of it. Sure, it was like speaking to a grown child, even Jett could find the humour in that juxtaposition there.

He couldn’t accept that way of life. ”Fine, I’ll keep the entrance here. We go our separate ways, I’m fine with that. But, give your mom a call when you finish today, see how she’s doing. That’s our deal.” It was a silly deal, made with a silly altercation, in the silliest of places.

But at least, it was the kind of deal that would lead to a smile.

Jett had done what he could, but it had backfired in a sense; the swordsman swung his broken sword at him, they were wide swings which Jett had no choice but to dodge, swing himself to the side, watch his feet; shuffle back, right step, turn his hips to the left, then right, and then finally backpeddle again.

That was when the largest of the strikes came towards him, as if he was a mere log to be split into two, he had no choice, he stepped within the man’s guard, he was rusty, but not that rusty. He gripped the man’s raised elbows, and pushed upwards, as if to keep the sword overheard, the space between them was almost zero, they were as close as two people could be.

”It’s over. Stop. You won’t get what you want outta this. Your mama will lose her son if you continue, other mamas will too. I don’t want your mama to cry, do you want her to?” He almost considered it, retaliating.

Bricket was exhausted; functionally out of the battle after that exchange, but that was perfectly fine, her trainer had it handled in his own, almost foolish, way.

Jett nodded slowly as he heard that, it made sense really; the strange space inside the core of this cave. ”With violence? Between boys, capture the flag has always been a little violent, so nothing’s changed really.” Jett injected some humor to lighten the atmosphere. There wasn’t any joy in whatever was about to happen, but they’d simply have to go for it, to push on.

”Do we know where theirs is? And I’m guessing the hand you want is to find out where theirs is.” Asking the question, and answering it in the same beat, Jett looked at Kyle. This wasn’t just small run of the mill favor, but this wasn’t a small run of the mill reunion either, they were both at the very precipice here. They could lose, or win this depending on a single moment.

Jett looked up at the loud buzzing sound, that was the sound of a pokemon that he could surely hear. ”Yo.” His face was fixed into the neutral expression it was almost stuck in, his eyes hidden behind his sunglasses, and his mouth pressed into a thin line. He didn’t give anything away for a moment.

”Ain’t lookin for any flags, just tryna work out my boy here. The forest here has uneven terrain and that makes it difficult to ride through. How about it girlie, wanna hit some training with us?”

Jett ran a hand through his hair, a smirk on his face, it was something that he wanted to see; he was usually the kind of man to test his pokemon in battles, a stress free one. ”We race and battle through the woods, see who takes out who. Falling off your pokemon is a loss, fainting is a loss, no killing.” He set out the rules, now time to see if she would go along with it.

Jett hid the smirk, it seemed like the conversation was turning more serious, more than it had before. He forced himself into a calm moment, sure, maybe there was a better solution, and maybe his was working out well enough. But good was the enemy of best, but that was a problem for another time.

”I’ll lend a hand, can’t really say no after all of this.” He said to Kyle at the end of way. Sitting down, looking at the opening to the rift, he let loose a loud sigh. ”What’re we doing? If you guys are set down here, with guards, it means you’re hiding something important…Is this the closest place to the seal stone you guys are looking for?”

If this was the core of the entire conflict, so he doubted it, but a man could hope.

”Aye, I ran into a crazy ‘un earlier, Hitoshi Inoue, that man is dangerous. If you cross him, don’t get distracted by any battles. Jett sat down when offered the stool, and he placed his butt down on it, his expression tightened just a little, he couldn’t even respond to the humorous line before that. It was easy to see, even with the higher collar of his jacket, and the glasses he wore, his lips tightened into a thin line, and his eyebrows began to furrow together.

”I fucking wish. There ain’t a lotta problems a guy like me can fix, I ain’t smart, and I ain’t that strong no more.” He said as he went into his pocket, and drew forth an actual cigarette, as if the stress of that thought alone had had caused him to put it to his mouth before he lit it.

Qutting really wasn’t going well today.

”That’s not really what I’m doing, just lending a hand here and there. Maybe one day I’ll do good wherever I go, but that day isn’t now. I’ve had to beat up a couple rocket brats already. If I can’t convince a man without beating him into tears, I can’t call that good.” He still had a long way to go.a
