To fall into the depths of the darkness of the world, at one point even selling people and pokemon into the darkest of all trades.

Jett managed to let out a loud laugh and slapped Kyle on the back, it couldn’t really be called a pat with the force behind it. ”Don’t overthink it, that’s one of your bigger skills.” He said, the smile on his face didn’t really fade out too much, this was a person he found far too easy to slip into old habits with. It was like being a teenager again, and that was warm for a number of reasons. He wanted to see just how things would go in the future, with this person.

”I’ll leave my lack of prison time in your capable hands once again, bud.” He said with another laugh as he put another stick of pocky in his mouth; Jett offered another to Kyle. ”Sure beats smoking. Now, what’s your job here? I doubt the big Champion is doing the same thing as the rest of us. How about it? Do it like the old days, back to back, against an enemy.” This time, it wasn’t because he himself had started it.

Jett smirked, the guy was being confused and that was more than fine; it meant that at least a part of him was trying. ”Everything. Everyone here has something as important to them as your mama, imagine them crying about your death? You’re putting your life on the line here.” It was cliche, he knew that to be true, but all the same it was important to note, to put into words, to impress upon the man across from him.

Yet their pokemon had separate thoughts, Retaliate clashed against his pokemon’s own,Night Slash, dark met dark; it was a powerful blow that turned into a clash for the ages; the dark energies that rolled off it filled the cavern with evil notions, evil thoughts, no, they were brutal inside and out.

”Alright, follow that up.” Honedge, Bricket began a series of strikes, a green glow overtaking her dark one in that moment, fury swipes, a series of attacks that got stronger with each strike; coming down like a maddened, bloodthirsty berserker.

His mirth hadn’t disappeared, his smirk was still there; but it did fade a little bit at the idea of getting pulled into it. Day to day living the same life, that wasn’t the kind of thing he wanted for himself, with the responsibility of lives under him. No, he couldn’t, wouldn’t do it, the crimes he was going to avoid were great.

”I’ll just avoid doing whatever you’re doing, I think that’ll do me well.” The grin on his face was certainly the kind of thing one would call ‘cheeky’. ”So, no doing the gym challenge, not becoming an elite four, or a cop, and not get involved in this clusterfuck.”

Jett didn’t like this space, it was strange; weird, and it lead to a new realm. To be forced into his old past would be a terrible experience, but if he had really improved; he’d be the one who would be improving just that much more. It would be the sign he needed, but the opposite would have been true.

But that was when he heard the sound, behind him; it was a low growl that rumbled against the floor, sitting upon his Cyclizar, he couldn’t help but look behind him, and at the same time he regretted doing so as a large creature rolled towards him, shaking the ground, and at the same time it only made him run faster.

His Cyclizar howled, yet he saw someone across from him; further up. He didn’t want them crushed, it didn’t matter which side prospered in the fight, it didn’t matter which side this person was on. Jett extended his arm, to pull them onto Cyclizer. ”We need to get the hell outta here.”

”Aye, doing my best in that frame; but I guess I might be causing a bit of a problem for both sides.”[break[[break]
He said just before he burst into a round of laughter, it wasn’t as if he was being particularly apologetic either, but he couldn’t really hide the smirk on his face either as the laughter died away. This Julia was a good person, he was running into a treasure trove of them today, and that made it just that little bit harder to exist around them.

Sharing a space with someone who could show genuine joy just because others were celebrating, and share that joy later. It was hard, but he understood it well enough. More people for him to strive to be like.

”Haaah, it’s a good sign then. If people can celebrate, it means things ain’t too far gone. Gotta keep the spirits up somehow.” He said with an almost wistful tone in his voice, his eyes locked on the path ahead of them. He didn’t allow his pessimism to seep into the next statement that came from his lips. ”Let’s get ourselves a nice welcoming party.”

That was when a small rumbling came from the front, there was the heavy churning of the ground and the ceiling as pokemon moved through it, and Jett noted the ground rise up in a spot, the metal head of a pokemon poked above, steelix who roared loudly the moment its eyes landed on the trainers in front of it.

Jett laughed. ”Have you seen me at any of these things before?” That was his simple answer. ”I’d rather be having a smoke underneath the bicycle bridge.” He said as he took another pocky to his lips, forgetting about the craving that was eating away at him. He wanted that touch of that smoke, that nicotine so badly, and yet he would have to keep away from it.

”I’m just doing a little bit here, maybe I’ll earn some money, maybe I’ll look good, and I’ll be able to convince myself of a few things.” That was really it for him, his simple reply, his simple answer to all of the above. Jett took and ate his confectionary as fast as he had put it to his mouth, the sweetness was enough to stop him from drawing himself into other thoughts.

”You’re the kinda guy that’d show up everywhere, I’m the kind of guy you’re surprised to see. Let’s keep it like that yeah? I don’t want to come up and end up cleaning the shit rocket and the league leaves behind. I get enough of that with my sporadic jobs already.”

There was something to be said for their present situation, Jett understood it more than anything else right now. He tried to keep his breathing even, holding the pack over his back, now empty; they had delivered what they needed to. ”You’ve got the rest on ya own, yeah?”

Jett waited up for a few second. ”I’ll go drop the report, handle the annoying paper work stuff, and you can do your ranger stuff. I hear there was a cave-in not far from here, a buncha Zubats were crushed, or something like that. Just words in the wind.” He said as if he hadn’t had something to do with all of that.

So he opened his pack of chocolate cigarettes, and offered her one before he went to walk away. The sound of someone leaving, the bare open expanse of the inside of the cave, and the limited paths.

It was a warzone, and Jett didn’t want to get involved more than he had to, anymore needed than to save lives.

Which meant he was in it for the long haul.

Jett didn’t let his smirk fade away. ”You’ve always been a little bit like that to begin with.” And he didn’t elaborate, it was better not to. People were who they were for a reason. He didn’t have any right to tread on that, to mold someone else into something else. He held his tongue.

War changes people, and that was true of any other circumstances. Looking at the man across from him, it was something he was sure they were both aware of it. They had experienced it, and yet at the same time.

”Considering our past, I might not dislike it as much as it sounds. But. I’m doing my best not to be that guy anymore.”

Jett couldn’t help but smirk at the man’s reaction, but his Honedge had a more difficult time, it seemed neither sword would shift into their more ghostly shape. As Sacred Sword met Sacred Sword, it was clear that neither was going to let their guard down. Jett smiled at Bricket, she was strong and she’d remain strong. That was fine, let them fight each head on, blo-, test their strength.

Hitoshi was another matter, Jett did not want to close in for a fight, the man’s Katana was done for, but that wasn’t the reason. Engaging in violence with his own two hands? Not again, not this time, he wouldn’t do it.

”It’s completely fine to be a Mama’s boy, I love my mama too.” Whoever she was, wherever she was.

You could see the sound, the response, and everything else around you for a moment as the attack struck, it sparked and got louder, then it stopped. Whatever came out of that place was strong, it’s shape illuminated for a moment as it was stuck, the glowing of its stomach, and the way it had fallen down. It wasn’t particularly large, but each step showed just how heavy it was, three more came tumbling out as the light in their belly stood there, a little more intense.

You couldn’t really believe it, a strange sight in this place; a Bellibolt, let alone multiple of them in this cave. There was nothing for it, but there they were, standing in this place. You knew that your Cyclizar would not be of any particular use carrying all of these packs, and in combat; even if it was your best choice in this time.

”Scyther, Honedge. You’re up.” You threw the pokeball up in the air, to even the odds somewhat. Scyther hadn’t waited a moment to charge in, going for the one that had been covered in acid. You watched her dance her dance in the air, before she came down onto the earth, using a double hit; each one hitting harder than it should’ve, her blade poised.

Yet your eyes were fixed only onto their stomach, which grew even brighter, your Honedge moved with a tap to the back of its handle, sinking into its own shadow, and reforming from the shadow behind that pokemon, a three pronged attack.

”I don’t like that glow very much.” You noted, it was only three left, the odds were on your side, but there was a danger in that. Complacency was a thing you had done your best to temper, to break down, and yet, you lived a life filled with it. You couldn’t move beyond it, as best as you tried to pretend to be a different person, it failed you.

”Alright, till things get dangerous; I’ll cover you.” He said as he patted the head of his cyclizar. She wasn’t the type to be coddled, even if he didn’t believe her original excuse anymore. Well that was fine, kids sometimes needed to experience the world directly to properly understand.

”I’ll leave the brainy stuff to ya.” And so he led the way out with Cyclizar, his movements became clear, and Jett felt his mind lighten up for a little while. Many called those strange dreams one of the greatest risks of the area, but in his case, it had taken some of the edge of this place off his shoulders.
