"If that were an actual club, I feel like there would be a good number of members," he said with a chuckle. It wasn't uncommon for people to be a bit socially awkward, though he wouldn't say he himself was socially awkward, at least not in normal circumstances. Compliments, especially of the flirtatious variety, usually had him stumbling over his words and sometimes mixing them up as well.

Hearing his comment, he chuckled. "Sounds like something I would do. That or I would fumble my words," he admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "My aunt thinks it's really funny. Though I must admit, I've gotten more used to compliments about my food," he explained, his expression thoughtful.

"I think the worst time was when I was first starting to learn to cook. I accidentally called my friend's mom 'mom' when she asked me if I had thought of pursuing cooking as a career. I panicked and said 'yes, mom' instead of 'yes, ma'am.' That was really embarrassing, but she understood it was an accident," he told him with a small, amused smile. It could have been worse. He could have said that to a complete stranger.

Listening to what he had to say, he nodded. The older teen didn't have to explain what worse would be; he knew what it would entail. Unbidden, his sister came to mind, and he mentally shook himself to clear his thoughts. It had been three years, but he still struggled with what had happened. Knowing it was coming had made things worse, in his opinion.

"That's a shame. I couldn't imagine what that's like," he told him. Sometimes life was just too cruel, like someone being born with an incurable disease. Though, if you asked him, the way the world was, someone suffered one way or another. No one was free from suffering, but that was just his opinion.

As the older teen spoke about common sense, he couldn't help but wince. "About some things," he said with a sigh. "Of course, if I was always using common sense, I would have worn a helmet when playing baseball. That's why I'm blind; I got hit in the head with a baseball. Not that I remember much about that. The last thing I remember was agreeing to play a game of baseball. Though the doctors said a bit of memory loss was common with a head injury."

His correlation between redheads and anesthesia had confused him, but he had nodded absently before he told him about the reason he was blind. It wasn't something he cared to think about too much. Being blind wasn't something he cared about. What got him was how careless he had been. But then again, none of them had ever thought to wear helmets since it was only supposed to be a friendly game among friends.

Deciding not to think too much about it, he moved on with the conversation. He listened to his explanation about the name and nodded. 'Seriously, the things people come up with.'

He had nothing more to say about the name, but luckily the conversation moved on. Hearing that Venus was succeeding, he couldn't help but smile. "She's good at getting people and Pokémon to do as they're told. I have her guard the front of my restaurant. It keeps people from trying anything," he explained, his face turned towards where he knew the Serperior was.

It was clear from the way he spoke that he was quite proud of Venus. She had been his first Pokémon, and due to that, he would always favor her a bit more than he did his other Pokémon.[break] Biscotti Kingsley

Don’t get him wrong he loved cooking. But sometimes after cooking at day for strangers he was just wasn’t in the mood to do it for himself. ”Usually on days I don’t feel like cooking and I don’t feel like going out my aunt when bring something over that she cooked,” he told the other teen. He did enjoy his aunt’s cooking, so it was often something to look forwards to.

He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck as he called it like it was. Shin knew that he had a tendency to be a workaholic. But to have it pointed out by someone not in his family was kind of embarrassing. It was something that often came up when he was talking to his aunt. And it was because of her that he even had the restaurant closed once a week. If it wasn’t for his aunt he would be working each and every day.

”I suppose I could do that. Would beat another lecture from my aunt about me working to hard. I’ll see about talking with the staff about having a bit more free time,” he promised, though someone would probably have to make sure he actually did that. He often forgot about stuff that could lead to him having more free time, due to his workaholic nature.

Now that that was cleared up he could get on with the whole badge thing. It was actually a little surprising that he would want to see his badges from Unova but he didn’t see a problem with it. ”I’m fine showing you, I’ll just have to unpack them from a box in the attic. I haven’t had much time to unpack everything since moving out of my aunts house a year ago,” he admitted.[break] Keenan Toral

It seemed the fish was coming along nicely. Veluza was a lot like other fish when it was fried. It got a bit flakey. Not overly so, it wasn’t bird after off. But enough that it an added a bit of a crunch feel when biting Into it. Most bird Pokémon that are used as food got really crunchy when ate it. And one could actually cook fish and bird similarly if they planned on frying it.

He was pulled out of his thoughts by the younger teens question. He supposed that meant the fish was done. ”Do might grabbing the potatoes from the microwave?” he inquired as he went into the cabinet to get himself a glass before pouring him a cup of tea from the pitcher he had taken out of the refrigerator.

”What do you want to drink? I have tea, water, and different kinds of soda,” as he put the tea pitcher down. While he waited for his response he helped take things to the table and helped divide it evenly between them. Or at least he hoped it was pretty even.

The teen just shrugged upon hearing his comment. He was use to the different ways before treated him. He was just thankful his aunt and her family didn’t treat him like he was helpless. They actually treated him like he was normal. That wasn’t always the case with some people he ran into. Some people thought he had to have everything done for him, which wasn’t the case at all.

As he spoke he nodded in understanding. ”It took a bit for me to learn that sometimes being strict was necessary. I think a lot of it, when it comes to the way one acts, he a lot to do with they were brought up. People from a strict household would probably have an easier time being able to be strict,” he told him his expression thoughtful.

Deciding there was no point in dwelling on any of that he decided to move on with the conversation. The subject would move back onto his problems with people due to his lack of eyesight before moving on to his restaurant. Mainly since that had started changing the way a good number of people treated him. There was less people who treated him like he was helpless.

”You’re welcome to drop by anytime. We’re open pretty much everyday. Though we do close one day a week. That was the only way I could get my aunt to let me run the place with too much help from her. Something about me pushing myself to hard,” he said sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.

He would then think of the other thing he had said. About burning everything he cooked. ”Also if you ever wanted to learn any tips with cooking to not burn stuff, than I can give you cooking lessons. You’ll probably be a better student than my uncle. I’m pretty sure he’s unteachable. He set the toaster on fire the last time I tried,” he told a bit amused when it got to the last part. While he found it amusing now, he still had no idea how his uncle had managed to set the toaster on fire.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he decided to get on to the reason they were here. ”Yes, battling is the best way to get through to a dragon type. I got through to Hades by having him lose repeatedly to Venus. It was a tough battle since Venus is a grass type. But lucky this happened when Venus was a Servine and Hades was a Deino.”[break] wren rourke

It seemed that his attacks were able to knock out Pinky but he wasn’t at all prepared for the Inky’s mirror coat or the following icy wind. If he was being almost mirror coat was often a move he forgot about. His battle tactics usually didn’t have a place for the kind of move mirror coat was so he usually put it out of his mind.

He returned Tempest with a small sigh. ”Good battle. I’m hoping when I get more into the swing of things and obtain more Pokémon to battle you again. Hopefully it won’t be another three years,” he said, the last part said in a joking manner. He really shouldn’t have gone three years without battling. It was luck that his battle tactics hadn’t taken a huge nosedive due to a stunt like that. Not that he still wouldn’t be taking time to improve his battle tactics.

Checking the time on his braille watch he was surprised at how much time had passed. Time really did fly when one was having fun. ”I hate to battle and run but I promised my aunt I would stop by and visit with her and the rest of my family today. I should head back before she calls wondering when I plan on coming by,” he told the gym leader giving him an apologetic smile.

”If you want to hang out again call anytime. Of course I’ll have to work around my schedule. But I always make sure to make time for friends and family,” he explained as he began to walk back the way he had come.[break] Josh Devlin

Fighting someone who was use to fighting gym battles was hard. He was three years out of practice for a battle like that. His strategies would need improvement when he battle more. Because Josh seemed to have moves that could patch a punch for his team no matter what he did.

As Pinky used psyshock hitting Toxin with it Shin directed the dual type to use the last of its energy to fire mud bomb at the Sylveon and it just managed to do that before fainting. He returned the Toxicroak back to his pokeball before redirecting his attention to Tempest.

If Pinky was hit with the mud bomb he doubted it would’ve taken the Sylveon out of commission. Which would mean that Tempest was up against two Pokémon. He hadn’t wanted to use this move since it hit everything in its path. And he personally wasn’t fond of the move but if he could knock out at least one of the Pokémon with it he wouldn’t be dealing with two Pokémon versus Tempest.

While Metagross had been able to power through the first mystic fire he was felled to the second mystic fire. Barely letting his attention stray from Tempest and the Glaceon that had replaced Janus he returned the fainted Metagross back to his pokeball before sending out Toxin, his Toxicroak.

Tempest couldn’t completely avoid the freeze-dry but was lucky to avoid getting temporarily frozen from the move. Shaking of the attack Tempest would use Fire Fang against the Glaceon hoping to make it either flinch or receive a burn from the attack.

And while Tempest went for the Glaceon, Toxin used Astonish against the Sylveon hoping that if Fire Fang didn’t make Inky flinch or receive a burn that Astonish would make Pinky flinch. If either of those moves did as intended it would buy them a bit of time. [break] Josh Devlin

He had meant for his attacks to hit both. But he supposed he would take what he could get. It was a bit of surprise when Josh ordered Pinky to use mystic fire. ”Didn’t know Sylveon could learn that move,” he stated already knowing of what hr could do. It was risky and meant putting Metagross in the line of fire, literally, but if he pulled it off he could get some damage on Pinky.

Knowing the risk Shin directed the Metagross to use Zen Headbutt to power through the flames and attack Pinky. His hope was that the flames would mask the attack enough that the feline Pokémon couldn’t dodge. Though he knew that the gym leaders Espeon could just use ally switch again. He wanted to avoid that though which was why he wanted to try and stop the Espeon from being able to that.

Which is why he directed Tempest to use Thunder Fang on the Espeon. He knew that move was a risk as well. Since it had a change of missing. But if it didn’t and the attack hit he was hoping to paralyze the Espeon to slow it down.[break] Josh Devlin

Thankfully the gym leader was fine with doubles. And he listened to him talk about getting a team together and he barely had time to nod before the older male was taking off. The wait wasn’t long and soon enough he had returned. He heard what sounded like Pokémon being released and realized he should release his own.

Josh’s first comment went unnoticed as he focused on making sure he grabbed the first pokeball. Tempest knowing she was up had already moved into position saving him the trouble of having to tell her to get into position. He would release Metagross from its pokeball to join the Manectric.

From what the gym leader said he figured he would have the first move. Which was fine with him. He didn’t mind making the first move. He would just have to be sure not to give too much away when it came to his strategy. Not that he had much of one at the moment. Usually preferring to think on his feet and come up with a strategy as he battled, always finding it hard to think of a strategy before the battle started.

After he determined which Pokémon Josh had send out he would direct them to attack. He would direct Manectric to use Quick Attack on the Espeon and Meteor Mash on the Sylveon.[break] Josh Devlin

Tempest took him over to where Josh was and he grinned at the gym leader. ”Thanks she was a gift,” he said as he stroked the top of Tempest head. Listening to what he had to say he nodded. Sounded like a good plan. It would also mean he wouldn’t have to feel pressed for time. Not that he was expecting a super long battle.

He would follow Josh to where the main battle court was. ”Its good to be here. It can be hard to find time around my schedule to battles. My days off are usually spent shopping to restock supplies at the restaurant,” he explained as they came to a stop.

”Doubles I want to get some training in on a few of my newer additions to my team,” he explained as he got off Tempest. He hoped that would be okay. It wasn’t a battle format he was to familiar with himself. But as a trainer he needed to get use to different battles styles. Though he couldn’t see the waitresses surprise he could hear it in her voice. It was only after the waitresses had left that he would further explain things to him. Not that he minded if the waitress knew. He just knew that she had a job to do and he didn’t want to keep her for too long.

Listening to what he had to say he nodded. ”True and sometimes after cooking all day for others I don’t have the energy to cook something for myself. So sometimes it’s just easier to go somewhere and eat,” he told the other teen. During those times it was other go out to eat or have his aunt cook him up something.

Of course there were times like this where he just wanted to support a restaurant. Though restaurants weren’t the only places he would support. There were times where he would be a sponsor to some event or someone else’s business. And he was even considering the possibility of catering to parties and other events that might require food to be catered.

”I have considered it,” he admitted before continuing. ”The only thing holding me back is finding a time when I can do it. Typically on my day off I use the day to restock on supplies. But I could always have someone else do that,” he said his expression thoughtful.

”Some people are more skilled when it comes to battling. I was pretty good and actually has six badges from the gym circuit back in Unova. But if I could find a way around my schedule I wouldn’t mind collecting badges in Hoenn.”[break] Keenan Toral

Getting to Mauville hadn’t been to hard. At least not as hard as it had in the past. All it took was a ferry ride to Slatesport and riding Tempest the rest of the way. It seemed to cut down the time it took to get from Slatesport and Mauville and before to long he was in Mauville.

He decided to walk the rest of the way after he entered the city having come to a stop right after he entered the city. He wanted the Manectric to be not be to tired since he would probably send her out to battle. Couldn’t have her tiring out in the middle of a battle.

Reaching Mauville’s gym he pushed his way inside. Josh was someone he had met before. Had given him riding lessons. It had made it a bit easier to talk to him on the Amigo app. And it had been on that app that they had planned all this out. A battle between just the two of them. Not an official one but a battle between two equals, more or less.

Since he was unsure if the gym leader was busy or not he didn’t try and call out to him. Besides he had faith that Tempest would alert him when he showed up. Make a sound to let him know they were no longer alone.[break] Josh Devlin
