Shinobu lived with his parents and his younger sister who was two years younger than him. He loved his sister but his parents wanted him to make something of himself and complete the gym challenge. So when he he was ten years old he got a starter Pokémon and started making his way through the gyms.

Completing them wasn’t easy and he was on his second try of the sixth gym when he received a letter from his parents telling him his sister had cancer. Ditching the gym challenge he immediately raced home. In the time his sister had left him and his parents tried to make her as comfortable as possible.

When he was fourteen almost fifteen his sister lost the battle to her cancer. A few weeks later, on his birthday, unable to continue being in his home without his sister he headed out again to complete his gym challenge. However it seemed some higher being wanted to keep him from becoming a champion.

Not long after leaving home for the second time a few friends of his convinced him to take a break from his pursuit of gym badges and come to Nimbasa city with them. While there his friends convinced him to play a few rounds of baseball. Being fairly good at sports he agreed.

He’s not real sure what happened. He’s not sure if he missed. He’s not sure if he wasn’t paying attention. But the next thing he knows he’s waking up in the hospital. Except he wakes up to complete darkness. Apparently he had been hit in the head with the baseball and because of that he was blind. But other than that he was perfectly fine.

Even so he was bitter. Hadn’t he been through enough? Instead of going home he instead ran away to a friends house. It so happened that his friends mother was a chef and he asked her to teach him, at first she was reluctant. But after being told he wouldn’t be able to learn due to being blind he became more persistent, and eventually she relented.

Surprisingly enough he was adept at cooking and was a quick learner despite his disability. He wanted to become a good chef. Because if a blind person could become a chef then a blind person would be able to do anything.

A year ago the death of his parents had him being sent to Lilycove, Hoenn to live with his aunt and her family. Upon reaching Hoenn his aunt, who had spend time in Alola, gave him an egg that when hatched ended up having an alonan vupix inside. In the first few months of living there his aunt would try to keep him out of the kitchen at least until he proved that he knew what he was doing and that he wasn’t about to burn the kitchen down.

A year later he managed to open his own restaurant, where he is the head chef, as well as move out of his relatives house. However he didn’t move far deciding to stay in the same city. After all they were his remaining family and he wanted to stay close.
