The other male had a point it had taken awhile for his body to adapt. For awhile after losing his sight he had dealt with bouts of vertigo. Then again the concussion probably had had something to do with that. He hadn’t known darkness could be dizzying but it had been.

When he registered that the other male had asked him out on a date his face heated up a bit. ”Y-Yes, I wouldn’t mind something like that,” he said his voice low but still loud enough that Keenan should be able to hear his response. He really needed to stop getting so flustered. But he wasn’t use to anyone showing interest in him unless one counted an interest in being friends with him.

The guilt was back but was enough to ignore. His parents hadn’t really been had parents just thought their kids would fare better with different parenting styles. ”My parents just that we were benefit from certain parenting styles. I was always stronger than my sister. It wasn’t until after I had started out on my gym circuit that we would find out she had cancer. My parents were weird after that, when I returned back home, felt like I couldn’t take two steps without running into one of them.”

He got it. He really did. His parents were losing one child and were afraid. Afraid that he would be next. But getting so much attention from them had kind of creeped him out. Yeah that hadn’t been opposed to hugging him but that had given him space before it had been determined that his sister had cancer.

”I never actually met her until came to live with her, but she’s treated me like a son in the year that we’ve met. She can be a bit scatter-brained sometimes but I’m thankful that she took me in a year ago,” he said with a chuckle. Like his aunt forgetting to tell people he was blind when setting up his cooking classes or other meet ups with people he didn’t know even if he was telling her what to right over his shoulder.

Hearing the way he spoke about his parents he couldn’t help but smile. ”They sound like great parents. And exploring ruins sound like it would’ve been fun,” he stated, thinking about what it would’ve been like to have visited a ruin before he lost his vision. Nothing came to mind though. He supposed maybe if he ever met the others father he could just tell him about his expeditions.

When he was sure the pignite had successfully been caught he returned Hades back to his pokeball before picking up the pokeball containing the pignite. Soon they came across a Swinub and Sandslash and he nodded to show he had heard before taking in hand the pokeball that contained Yuki, figuring the ice type could do with some time in the spotlight.

An alonan vulpix appeared and before he could give orders the ice type immediately nuzzled up against his leg. ”Yuki, I love you too, but I need you to focus on that Sandslash,” he huffed gently nudging the alonan vulpix away making her pout.

But she did as she was asked immediately using ice beam hoping to get it with low enough health to catch with one hit. The ice beam hit freezing the ground type. Yuki letting out what could only be considered a cry of pride alerted him that he now attempt to catch the ground type.

Taking a pokeball in hand he threw the pokeball at the sandslash causing it to be sucked into the pokeball. Now all to do was wait to see if the catch would be successful.[break] Keenan Toral

He was relieved that Aaron seemed eager. Some might prefer to stick to eating a fish they were familiar with. However he liked trying new ingredients. Which wasn’t to surprising considering his profession as a chef. He much preferred trying to recreate exotic dishes or using exotic ingredients than making dishes that were common in the region. Not that he didn’t do those as well, since not everyone liked food from other regions.

After putting the fish in the refrigerator to marinate he moved with Aaron into the dining area after setting the timer on his braille watch to go off after thirty minutes it would vibrate against his wrist. Sitting down he heard the younger teens inquiry about Pokémon types.

”I don’t really have a preference. I try to be logical though. Probably not the best idea to have a Pokémon that eats a lot considering my profession,” he said with a small chuckle. Though the chuckle died off to be replaced with a thoughtful frown. That did remind him that he hadn’t even attempted to catch a Pokémon since losing his vision.

He told himself it was because he was busy but that wasn’t the whole truth. ”I actually haven’t gone out to catch Pokémon since before I went blind,” he admitted.[break] Aaron Toral

The blind youth was momentarily hit with sensory overload and the sudden influx of sound. Venus brushed against him settling him and he released the vice like grip he had on his cane but still kept ahold of it. ”Yes, sir!” he said confirming that he was the one the gym leader was here for.

”It’s nice to meet you M…Josh,” he was use to being on a last name basis with an adult and calling them mr, ms, or mrs. So not doing so would take some getting use to. Of course he didn’t use such formalities with his cousins but that was different. He felt there was some leeway due to them being family but if he didn’t want formalities then he would endeavor to do as he wanted.

He’d been around enough eeveelutions to know what they sounded like. Even if the sounds were a bit higher due to their size. It was still easy to tell what they were. The older males voice was pulled him out of his thoughts and for a moment he was confused. Being blind he was unsure of which Pokémon he could be referring to. Blinky thought made him thinking of a blinking light, so perhaps he meant the jolteon. He wasn’t sure though.

His aunt would forget to tell people he was blind even if he was standing over her shoulder telling her what he wanted her to write. ”I know you brought eeveelutions with you, but I’m blind so I’m not sure how you have them lined up,” he explained.[break] Josh Devlin

The sound of Stoutland stampeding towards him is the first sign he gets that athena oswald is coming towards him. He feels Venus tense beside him and places a hand on the serpentine Pokémon to calm her. If that was Athena he had a feeling that she had gotten worse with time. With some people that was the case, but he still wanted to be sure.

It didn’t take long for him to get his answer. Her voice was almost lost to the sound of the Stoutland. But he still picked it up. He would recognize that voice anywhere. Even if it wasn’t for the accent. The accent that he himself carried since it would be practically impossible to get rid of an accent in a year.

Knowing his voice would be lost to the sound of the Stoutland he decided to wait until Athena had pulled her Stoutland to a stop and gotten off. ”Yeah it has, sorry about falling off the face of the earth,” he said, wincing a bit at the clap on the shoulder. The only reason he didn’t accidentally drop his cane when they did that was because of him tightening his grip on the cane, the cane that marked him as being blind.

Definitely not something he had been when they had last seen each other. ”Ready to get started?” he inquired before starting to move forward once he had gotten confirmation.

It didn’t take long for two wild Pokémon to appear. His rotomdex told him it was a toxicroak and a shiny beldum. Both Pokémon were ones he liked and he found himself chewing his lower lip. It was definitely a conundrum. Finally he turned his face towards Athena.

”Is there a specific one you want?” he inquired before continuing. ”Because I’m fine with either.”[break]

Tempest was the first to notice Wren. The teen felt the Manectric move a bit letting him know someone had approached. It wasn’t until the other drew spoke that he was able to pinpoint their location though. Even with his sensitive hearing he hadn’t heard the older male until he spoke. There were to many smaller sounds overlapping for him to pickup the sound of someone’s footsteps.

”That’s me, though I’m afraid I wasn’t given much details aside from the fact you’re a ranger and I’m to help you train your dragon type. He hadn’t mentioned the species or what I should call you,” he told the older male his face turned in the direction he had heard the older male speaking from.

At least he knew the breed of Pokémon now. ”I have a Zweilous myself. He’s pretty docile for a Zweilous unless he feels like there’s a threat towards me. I figured since I had made a Pokémon known for their cruel disposition docile that I would take a shot at helping out.”

Unsure if the older male had picked up on his lack of eyesight he decided he should say something. ”Before we begin, I should warn you that I’m blind. I hope that’s not a problem,” he told the older male keeping one hand on Tempest. Luckily she only seemed curious about the man and his Leafeon.[break] wren rourke

”I currently have no psychic types, to be honest I haven’t really gone out to catch Pokémon since I lost my eyesight. I kind of threw myself into learning how to cook gave me something to focus on instead of my sisters de….I mean losing my eyesight,” he quickly corrected himself having got a bit caught up in the moment.

He decided to quickly move on before he could push him about what he had been about to say. ”I wouldn’t mind a canine Pokémon though. I’ve always wanted a Manectric, I think a Manectric would make a good guide pokemon,” he said adopting a pensive look.

Yeah they were. Especially when it came to scent. He saw no need to say anything until he brought up potatoes. ”Something that’s really good is using canned potatoes and butter and parsley and cook it in the microwave. You should melt the butter first though since the parsley would just stick to the butter. It’s something that doesn’t take long to make and it’s really good, especially if you melt parmesan cheese over it.”

Sometimes if he was to worn out at the end of the day to make something fancy he would just make make that. It wasn’t exactly fancy but it tasted good. And all that really mattered was that it tasted good. And it was real simple to make. It wasn’t something that used a lot of ingredients or took hours to make. At most it would probably take fifteen minutes.

”Probably some kind of survival mechanism. It’s our way of adapting so we can survive better. That’s the only thing I can think of. It can be hard when there’s a lot of noise though or a lot of perfume,” he said shuddering at the memory of the first time he had suffered a sensory overload.[break] Hideo Kino

He could tell that the other male had a similar work ethic. Even without working eyes he had a feeling he put everything he had into his passions. Of course Shin gave it his all when it came to anything he did. Probably something to do with his competitive nature as well as how independent he was.

”A lot of people are surprised I can cook since I can’t see. You just took it as normal though. Hopefully I won’t disappoint when you try my cooking,” he told the younger male. He could never be sure what one would like. People liked certain things and he would never hold it against someone if they didn’t like his food. So far he hadn’t had any complaints though.

Lucas walked off to place his order but soon returned. It probably helped that he knew what he wanted before going up there. That wasn’t always the case. Sometimes people got up there not knowing what he wanted so the cashier would have to wait for the person to decide what the wanted. Luckily that didn’t happen very often though.

Hearing his question he nodded before speaking. ”I like to explore new dishes and if they’re popular enough they get added to the menu. I’m actually thinking of adding something new to the menu. I’m unsure what though so I may collaborate with another chef to create something new.”[break] Lucas Holden

”I guess I just like having something to occupy my time. I suppose I can’t be to angry with them but they don’t have to remind me over and over. I know I’m younger than most if not all the people who work at the restaurant so I know to most of them I’m probably a kid,” he said with a shrug. And it wasn’t like they just ignored what he was telling them or anything either, so it wasn’t all bad.

Hearing his comment he nodded. ”Yeah it seems that way. I don’t think it works if you’re born blind though,” he explained looking thoughtful. He supposed it was because the body didn’t have to get use to living without one of their senses if they were born that way. He didn’t really understand the science behind the whole thing, he was sure a doctor would know the answer but it didn’t really matter to him.

”Don’t worry about it. Sad as it may be I wasn’t as close to my parents as I was my sister. Don't get me wrong I loved my parents but it felt like they had different expectations for me than my sister. They wanted her close to home but they wanted me to make a name for myself,” he explained with a small shrug.

He had no way of knowing the other teen thought he had lost his family in an accident that had taken his sight. He just wanted to lessen how bad the other teen felt for him. Then again perhaps telling him about how he felt in regards to his parent’s probably wasn’t the best idea for what he hoped to accomplish. Realizing this hr would bring up how he got along with his aunt and her family.

”IT he pondered. ”Wasn’t that for fairly smart people that were tech savvy?’ he asked himself before deciding to acknowledge what he’d just been told. ”That must be cool. Your mom must be pretty smart then. Before I lost my sight I was decent when it came technology, but I definitely wasn’t what one would call tech savvy,” he admittedly with a small chuckle.

Soon it was time for them to move on they came across a pignite and a crabrawler with him immediately sending out Hades. ”I’ve had Hades since I caught him as a Deino during my first gym circuit back in Unova “ he explained turning his head towards Keenan as Hades started his assault on Pignite.

Hades immediately started with dragon breath hoping to paralyze the Pignite which luckily worked. The pignite retaliated with Flare Blitz with the pignite taking recoil damage from the attack. Hades used dragon rush before using dragon pulse able to move twice since the pignite was slowed due to being paralyzed.

The pignite retaliated with assurance and Hades tried dragon rush again but missed. Pignite was able to move due to being paralyzed so Hades used crunch causing the Pignite to flinch allowing Hades to use crunch again. Calling for Hades to stand down Shin sent a pokeball at the fire type causing it to be sucked into the pokeball.[break] Keenan Toral

Taming dragon types. It wasn’t something he ever thought he would be doing. Oh sure he had a Zweilous and Hades had turned out to be pretty docile unless he felt like Shin was in some kind of danger. Like Venus, his Serperior, Hades was quite protective over him. And yet he had never thought someone would request aid with training up some dragon types.

Was someone having trouble with their own Pokémon? He could think of no other reason than that. Though he supposed he would get the details once he had arrived. Hopefully the way he had taught Hades would come in handy this time. Because if a typing known for their aggression could become docile then he must have done something right with his teaching.

Arriving in Sootopolis City he allowed Tempest, his Manectric, to guide him forwards he was also using his rotom dex to help him. It told him he had reached his destination and he put it away as he turned his attention towards the person that had put up the request for aid.

So it was to train the dragon Pokémon that would be working alongside rangers. He supposed they were a bit low on rangers that could do that if they were asking for help from civilians. Not that it mattered to him. If he could help he would help it anyway he could.

He was told to wait since he would be working alongside someone else. The blind youth nodded and decided to give Tempest some attention while he waited. Hopefully the person he was partnered up with wouldn’t make a big deal about working with a blind person.[break] wren rourke

”Guess both sides will feel like the others had it worse,” he stated before realizing that aside from knowing he was blind he wasn’t sure if he had suffered any hardships. ”In regards to disability I mean,” he blushing a bit about how awkward that probably sounded.

He supposed he was right. And he knew in part it was because in Unova he hadn’t gotten out much after losing his sight. Wallowing in self-pity because he felt his life was crashing down around him. What with him losing his sister and then going blind soon after. He had been bitter and angry at the time.

Now he regretted not at least trying to get the hang of being blind before he had gotten into cooking. But he supposed there was no helping it now. ”Yeah, didn’t try and get use to being blind right away. But a Pokémon of the ralts line would be helpful. Actually as long as it was a Pokémon that could guide me around I would be content.”

He loved all Pokémon and to him all Pokémon had their uses. So if a Pokémon could guide him around telepathy or no telepathy he would be happy. The others voice pulled him out of his thoughts and he felt his face heat up. He supposed he had a point. But that was actually already a pretty condensed list.

Oh well he would make it easier on the younger teen. ”Hmmm how about for now you start out with pepper and parsley. Parsley goes good in a variety of dishes. I especially like it in potatoes but it goes good in soups or you could get creative with it, parsley is something that could probably go in anything if you could figure out how to make it work in a certain dish,” he explained.

Though the fact he did have to use his Pokémon did make him curious. He guessed his hearing and sense of smell weren’t enhanced due to being born blind than. ”I can actually differentiate between different seasonings and ingredients from scent. After losing my sight my sense of smell and hearing enhanced, I guess to make up for losing on of my senses.”[break] Hideo Kino

”I was thinking Veluza, Basculin is a bit common for my taste besides originally coming from Unova I’ve had it to many times to count,” he told the younger male as he added the bay leaf after Aaron had added the ginger after that came the lemon zest.

”Do mind getting the fish out of the refrigerator? he inquired before speaking once more. ”I had some already out since I had planned on cooking some for supper,” he explained in case he was wondering why he already had fish thawed out.

”Yeah I like being treated the same as everyone else. Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I’m helpless. A lot of the other people working the restaurant treat me like a kid sure I don’t always go on my breaks but they think to tell me to take a break they’ll repeatedly remind me. It makes me want to point out that it’s my eyes that don’t work not my memory,” he told they other male with a shake of his head.

If he didn’t have such good control over his emotions he probably would’ve gone off on his workers because of that. However he refrained not wanting to have to look for new workers because some have quit. Hearing what Keenan said he shrugged. He had never given it much thought since his aunt helped him with all that. Though he supposed he should check out rather or not there was something like that.

Hearing his praise his face heated up slightly. ”Thanks my hearing and sense of smell increased after I lost my eyesight. I guess to make up for losing one of my senses. It’s actually my nose I rely on the most when it comes to cooking. I can tell the different spices and seasonings apart by their scent,” he explained.

He had just gone over to pick up the pokeball when the other male’s question gave him pause. ”They’re no longer around. My restaurant is actually named in memory of my younger sister,” he told the other male. Speaking of his family always made him fairly guilty since his parents deaths hadn’t affected him as strongly as his sisters death making him feel like a bad son.

He shook his head to clear his thoughts before speaking. ”My aunt is like a mother to me though and she has kids around my age, so I still have family. It was my aunt who set up the cooking lesson with your brother since she is better when it comes to computers,” he said knowing he wouldn’t have to explain his aunt being good with computers.

”Anyway ready to move on?” he asked before beginning to head deeper. Two more Pokémon appeared and once he knew what they were he told Venus to stand down and sent out Hades, his Zweilous, telling it to face off against Pignite.[break] Keenan Toral
