He had just finished checking on the meat he had in storage when his sharper head picked up the sound of someone’s voice that was different from the one on the radio. Fixing the pin that kept his hair pinned back he grabbed his cane with his right hand and made his way into the main room.

”Hello, you must be the chef my aunt reached out to. I’ve been having trouble with thinking up new menu items so I had her reach out to chefs in the area,” he explained. And by in the area he meant Hoenn. It was just easier saying in the area that saying in all of Hoenn.

Since his aunt hadn’t called him about anyone accepted the invitation he was unsure if his aunt had told him who he was. So he had heard that Ash had ended up in Hoenn as well. She was three years older but since they had both been born in Castelia City they had run into each other. When he had been on his gym battle circuit back in Unova they had even battled from time to time. He remembered her as being wild back then and wondered if she had mellowed out since then.

He wouldn’t really say he had been wild back then but he had been competitive. But after losing his vision he had really stopped reaching out to her. Interacting with his friends back then had been so hard so he just hadn’t tried. Not to mention he had been fairly bitter about everything back then, until he had picked up cooking, and he hadn’t wanted to take his frustrations out on his friends.

The second he had heard of Athena being around he had asked his aunt to reach out to them and ask them to meet up with them. After a bit of back and forth it had been decided they would catch Pokémon together. He just hoped they didn’t ask about the radio silence for the past three years.

With cane in hand and Venus, his Serperior, at his side he made his way to the meeting place. Of course he had to take the ferry to Slatesport and cross through Mauville city to get to his destination but he felt like he reached his destination in record time. And having set out early to avoid being late, he was sure he was actually early.

So he was right he was blind. To be honest he had just been assuming since he had mentioned needed to be guided around. He could tell that Hideo probably didn’t understand why he had brought it up so he decided to explain himself a bit telling the younger teen about his own lack of vision.

”It’s not so bad, despite it only being three years I’m already starting to forget what it was like to see,” he told the younger male. He did wonder why he was forgetting. There was a chance it was just a common occurrence for someone who had lost one of their senses. But he had always thought it was something that would happen if he had been younger when losing his vision.

So the younger male was born blind. He felt that was worse. But that was his opinion. ”That must have been hard,” he commented his thoughts straying to his sister. He supposed she had been born with the cancer sleeping within her. To some extent he was lucky to have been been born with a condition that hadn’t ended his life. His sister hadn’t been that lucky.

Hearing his joke he couldn’t help but chuckle. ”Definitely! And totally a coincidence that I’m blind and leading another blind person around,” he commented as he thought about that phrase the blind leading the blind. He was pretty sure it was just suppose to be a figure of speech and not taken literally.

Ah yes his cane. Sense he didn’t have a guide Pokémon he had to use a cane. ”Yeah the only one of my Pokémon that would probably be able to guide me around efficiently would probably be Venus, however she’s a Serperior and wouldn’t do so well in a building, not to mention I don’t think the owners would be to pleased if I took a Seperior into their stores.”

That made since Beheeyem was a pretty heavy Pokémon. ”Yuki isn’t to heavy yet, but she definitely won’t be able to do this when she evolves,” he explained holding the floor with one arm while he stroked Yuki a bit with his free hand.

Once he had done that he grabbed his cane, with his now free hand, from where it was still leaning against the shelf. ”Do you need anything else from around here?” he inquired wondering if he needed to do more shopping.[break] Hideo Kino

Getting fresh ingredients was better than getting them from store. So here he was only his way to get some Moo-Moo milk and possibly some other ingredients as well. It would really depend on what this supplier was selling and for how much. He wished his Aunt had just offered the person a deal but she’d told him that if he wanted to run a business he needed to learn to make the deals him. Which he supposed she had a point.

He hated when she was right. Letting out a sigh he continued on the path in front of him his stick clutched tightly in his left hand Venus bringing up the rear at his right shoulder. He knew if a wild Pokémon were to attack his Seperior would drive the Pokémon away so he wasn’t to worried. But he wasn’t sure if he would be good at negotiating a deal. He was only eighteen after all not to mention blind.

Would the supplier he was going to check out even believe he was a chef? Venus nudged his shoulder rousing him out of his thoughts. His sharper hearing picked up someone’s voice but he wasn’t sure why that would interest the grass type. So she must have noticed something else. Probably something to do with the guy he had heard.

Weighing his options he finally decided to make his way towards where he had heard the person. Perhaps the person needed help with something and that’s why Venus stopped him. He couldn’t turn his back on someone who needed help and Venus knew that. If she had stopped him he couldn’t be dangerous so he supposed he was fine interacting with the older male.

”Excuse me, is something wrong? I believe Venus believes you’re in need of some help,” using his right hand to gesture vaguely towards his Serperior since his left hand was occupied with his cane.[break] Biscotti Kingsley

”Don’t worry about it, I don’t like just sitting around,” he reassured the younger male. He much preferred having something to do. Best not tell the others he had been helping out a customer on his break though. Having been told to take a break he didn’t think they would be to happy that he hadn’t exactly taken one.

Listening to what he had to say he chuckled. ”Yeah I live, breath, and dream cooking,” he said with mock seriousness dramatically placing his hand on his chest. He wasn’t able to hold it for long though and soon his lips were twitch. ”Nah while I do enjoy cooking I’m not quite that bad, I just like making people happy with the food I make hence the reason I prefer working,” he explained a small smile gracing his lips.

He didn’t follow after the younger male sure he would tell him how it went when he returned. Besides he didn’t care for walking around the restaurant when it was business hours since he couldn’t be sure if someone wouldn’t decide to stand up while he was walking past pushing their chair into him or causing him to trip over a chairs leg.[break] Lucas Holden

”True but I can get testy with people who treat me like I’m helpless or if I just don’t like the person,” he said with a shake of his head. Of course there were also days where he was just in a bad mood. It wasn’t very often though so he didn’t think it was that big of a deal.

Eventually the sounds of fighting stopped and he heard something hit the ground. Presumably a pokeball. Since he didn’t hear anything else after he assumes he caught the Pokémon. Hopefully he would catch one the next time they came across one. He would have to remember to get a Rotom dex before he went on another Pokémon hunt though.

Before they could continue on the other male addressed him with a question. ”That’s right Kasumi’s Eatery. At first learning to cook was a means to help me deal with what was going on with my life at the time, but I found myself loving it. I realized I had found my calling. I’ve always been fairly independent. My aunt helped me get the place, I don’t deal with the finances can’t exactly do those in braille,” he explained before inquiring rather he wanted to continue on.

Once he was sure they were ready he continued forwards. It wasn’t long after s thought that he heard something coming towards them. Whatever it was sounded pretty heavy. Frowning he addressed Keenan. ”What is it?” he inquired.

After finding out he directed Venus to attack the Aggron. Having her orders Venus attacked him the Aggron with leaf blade. The Aggron retaliated with tackle while Venus hit the Aggron with leaf tornado before dodging when the Aggron used Double edge.

But couldn’t dodge the Aggron’s headbutt causing Venus to flinch. The Aggron took the chance to use double edge taking recoil damage in the process when it hit. Venus quickly recovered and retaliated with mega drain. Feeling like the Pokémon was low enough on hp he took out a pokeball and threw it in the direction he had heard his pokemon battling in.

”Well I usually don’t go around telling people I cook with it. I told use since I’m teaching you to cook. White wine brings out the flavors of a fish. Besides wealthy people will often give their kids small glasses of wine to taste. Not really young kids but at least teenage age,” he said with a small shrug. Besides he wouldn’t let anything happen to his employees. It could also just be passed off as a thing adults could drank at the restaurant as long as he didn’t serve it himself.

No actually now that he thought about he probably wouldn’t get in trouble for serving it as long as he had some alcohol awareness. He had enough to know not to drink it. ”You can serve alcohol when you’re eighteen even if you can’t drink it,” he told the younger male.

The fact he had misinterpreted what Aaron was talking about didn’t faze him. He couldn’t see so he hadn’t been sure what he was talking about. He finished with the garlic just as the younger male added the onion. He added the garlic before turning his attention to Aaron to address.

There wasn’t any reason to force himself to do anything. Forcing yourself to do something would just make you not like what you were trying to force yourself to do or make you not like something even more. It was no different than trying to force yourself to eat certain foods that you weren’t a big fan of.

”True and that would be a reason to stay fit, though moving crates of food around probably helps with that.” Sometimes if they were to busy they would get more food like raw steak, raw chicken, etc. delivered and it was usually delivered in crates. They were often fairly heavy and required good upper body strength to carry them.

Soon the conversation moved on to what they did. And finding out about his work at the gym he had shown interest in the learning to ride a Pokémon. Though in doing so he mentioned running the restaurant. Being use to people just knowing he didn’t think anything of it.

It was easy to forget that not everyone knew he owned the place. ”Yes that’s right. I just happened to be taking my break. Apparently everyone needs one of those even the boss,” he said it being clear from his tone that he didn’t really agree with the last part.[break] Lucas Holden

He didn’t let his blindness control him. If he did he would’ve never learned how to cook. He wouldn’t have opened his own restaurant. And he wouldn’t have become head chef at said restaurant. However the thought of doing sports with a ball seemed kind of out there. Not impossible, just kind of out there.

”Maybe, I’ve been hit in the head with a baseball once already. Not too keen for a repeat performance,” he said absently. It had been on his mind awhile especially when he brought up sports involving a ball. He had no idea what would happen if something like that happened again. After all the last time it had cost him his vision.

As he mentioned what sport he planned he nodded. ”Well if you ever go pro I’ll keep an ear out,” he told him. So he worked at the Mauville gym. ”That must be nice, I’ve never been to the gym myself. I wouldn’t mind learning to ride a Pokémon or facing off the gyms. But don’t have time when I have to run the restaurant, I would have to make time for that on one of my days off,” he explained shaking his head.[break] Lucas Holden

He wasn’t sure how he was suppose to react to the question. Probably the only sport he would probably feel comfortable doing without his sight would be fencing or maybe martial arts. Nothing that had to do with a ball. If he had been hit in the head with a baseball when he had his sight he didn’t want to know what would happen now that he didn’t have his sight.

”No I suppose I could try to learn martial arts, I think with most other sports you need working eyes,” he said with a shrug. He tried not to be blunt but he wasn’t known for sugarcoating the truth or he supposed facts. Besides his blindness didn’t bother him. At the point he was use to his lack of vision.

”I still listen to games on the radio though,” he said hoping that if things had become awkward it would lighten things up again. ”What about you are you into any sports?” he inquired. Wondering if he did a sport or if he was just big on exercise.

”Yeah, wasn’t really one for theater,” he agreed with a chuckle. Oh he could get behind sports but he had never seen the appeal of theater. In fact he had always seen plays as boring. Though he supposed there were some people who enjoyed that kind of stuff.

The subject moved on and he was relieved that he had given a good recommendation. Would’ve been embarrassing if Lucas was a vegetarian or something. But he supposed he would’ve been told first off if that was the case. So it was good that he had recommended something the other would enjoy.

Hearing his question he nodded. ”Yeah we have mozzarella bites, it’s an appetizer and is like mozzarella sticks. We have just plain mozzarella or pepper jack when it comes to those. We have onion rings or fries as well you can ask to have either added as a side to the bacon wrapped meat,” he explained waiting to be sure he got all that before continuing.

”As for drinks we have soda, water, tea sweet and unsweet, different flavors of lemonade classical, strawberry, wild berry, cherry, or blueberry,” he said wondering if he would ask about anything else menu related. Like dessert. Before he could think too much on it the younger male brought the subject back to sports.

While he no longer played due to being blind he still listened to games on the radio but it seemed like Lucas was a bigger fan of sports than he was. ”I dabbled in a bit of everything I never played on a team I just played with my friends, though I suppose baseball was the one I played the most,” he said shifting uncomfortably.[break] Lucas Holden
