It was another slow night at Howling at the Moon. There were a few regulars at the bar top, a couple small groups sitting together at the tables, one lone rando in one of their leather chairs...[break][break]

"Huh?" It took a second or two, but even with Nagi trying to meld into the crevice between seat and wall, a flicker of recognition sparked in Damien's memory.[break][break]

He nodded for the other bartender to take over and then strolled his happy ass on over to the empty chair beside Nagi, plunking it down before commenting, "Ha! Aren't you the guy who blocked my Amigo profile?" [break][break]

Not that he'd gotten a notification about it or anything. Truthfully, he'd gone back to review his swipes and look for Nagi in particular, but the dude's profile wasn't even clickable anymore. Rude.[break][break]

Damien should have taken the hint that if nagi miwa didn't want to acknowledge him in a virtual space, he probably didn't want to interact in real life, either.[break][break]

Which, on some level, DAMIEN RUSSO definitely realized this. But he simply didn't give a fuck.[break][break]

"Did the dead bodies start to freak you out or something?" Wasn't there a video game about that? Damien vaguely remembered it popping up on his PokéTube feed. The Mortuary Assistant... or some bullshit like that.[break][break]

"What do you do now, then?" Dylan had to pay the bills somehow. They all did... which was why Damien stuck it out here, even with a tightass boss like Zev Harcourt. He'd never met a guy with such a huge stick up his ass before.[break][break]

As their conversation continued and dylan sayer tried the offered drink, Damien was pleased to hear he enjoyed the taste.[break][break]

Damien was still getting used to mitchel kane's bullshit. They hadn't known each other long, just done some stupid missions for ROCKET, but there'd been enough of a spark there for them to hookup a few times. Now the guy came around occasionally.[break][break]

It was whatever. Admittedly, it was kinda nice having someone around that felt comfortable in the space.[break][break]

"Take whatever you can find in the fridge." Damien replied, one hand slipping the hair tie from his ponytail and rolling it to his wrist. "I'm gonna go shower."[break][break]

He started undressing before he even made it through the threshold of his bedroom, discarding his clothes as he walked. It didn't really matter; the place was kind of a mess anyway.

Fuuuck this shift was dragging. Damien had gotten here in the late afternoon and was just not in the mood for all the bullshit Howling at the Moon's customers were serving him today. [break][break]

Forgetting to pick up tabs, returning drinks, spilling shit on the floor. It was a fucking mood-killer of a night.[break][break]

He'd just gotten back behind the bar when a woman approached, overtly friendly, and asked about his employment. Damien had half a mind to unleash his pent-up frustrations on the lady, but figured that would probably hurt his tip. He bit his tongue instead.[break][break]

"I could say the same to you. Haven't seen ya around before," He commented back, leaning his elbows onto the countertop near to where she sat.[break][break]

"I've been here about seven or eight months, give or take." His tone was even and friendly, something he'd had to practice for the job. Zev Harcourt had cussed him out enough times about his customer service for some of it to stick.[break][break]

"What're ya havin'?"

Oooohhh shiiiiit. The boss was mad mad. He usually only cussed like that to Damien's face. The flurry of swears easily echoed up the stairs and filled the bar's back area, leaving nothing to the imagination.[break][break]

When Zev finally resurfaced, Damien made sure to look anywhere but his boss's agitated face.[break][break]

"For real?" He asked, momentarily stunned, before making a beeline for the door (and tripping over some other bullshit in the process, though it felt like just a few boxes of junk). "Ain't gotta tell me twice."[break][break]

"Night, boss. Text me if ya need anything."[break][break]

DAMIEN RUSSO couldn't give two shits about the light being eaten. Currently, his mind was on who he should contact for him to get eaten on this early night off.[break][break]

Pulling his phone out, he dialed none other than Frank Caffey.[break][break]

"Hey, Frank. You in town tonight?"

One that assured his destruction if he ever so much as mused over thoughts of betraying ROCKET again. Realizing this, Taoyang Lin eventually skulked out of the bar with his tail between his legs.[break][break]

Damien followed soon after, Chicken Nugget at his heels. [break][break]

"Did you hear that guy, Nikki? What an ass. I didn't even know someone's face could get that red." Damien snickered as he recalled the man's flabbergasted expression. [break][break]

It was all highs and serotonin from here on out. The fucking mission was done and it was time to celebrate.[break][break]

"You better have some deep pockets, then, cause I'm about to get shitfaced after all that bullshit."[break][break]

Obviously in a much better mood than when they'd first met, Damien matched nikkari hect's pace as they walked toward the bar down the street. The adrenaline was beginning to fade now and, with it, a little of the resentment he'd felt for the man beside him.[break][break]

Maybe this spy shit wasn't so bad after all.

Damien hated working weeknights for this very reason. There were some regulars trickling in, but it was otherwise dead as a grave this time of day.[break][break]

Ah well. At least he could just chill behind the bar and thumb through his phone in the meantime. Zev Harcourt would have probably wanted him sweeping or doing some barback shit, but fuck him. Like hell Damien was gonna bust his ass when the boss wasn't even around.[break][break]

He was cool with just hanging out — until an unfamiliar voice beckoned for his attention.[break][break]

"..." Damien looked up, his expression immediately hostile. Who the fuck was this guy? He was acting real friendly for a stranger...[break][break]

Hold up. Now, he'd swiped through what felt like a metric fuckton of matches on AmiGo this past week. Faces had really started to blur by the time Damien had gotten bored of the app. But dylan sayer's deadpan mug was really starting to seem familiar, the more Damien looked.[break][break]

"...Ha! Wait, that you, Hex Boy?" The lightbulb went off, and with it the bartender's face softened into a wicked grin.[break][break]

"Nah, fuck the vodka-redbull. That shit's too mainstream. Try this," Pocketing his phone, Damien went to work grabbing all the necessary ingredients for the cocktail he had in mind. [break][break]

"It's called a Grave Digger. Little cider, some whiskey, splash of ginger beer." He slid the glass tumbler across the bar.[break][break]

This place was fucking ridiculous. Probably the swankiest hotel room he'd ever been invited to for a hookup. Full-sized kitchen, multiple bedrooms and entertainment areas — hell, there was even a damn lap pool on the balcony. [break][break]
