[attr="class","rapha"]“Ain’t it just.” Raph rolls the cherry sucker across his tongue to the other side of his mouth. The taste of it mixes with the horrible bottom-shelf whiskey and makes it vaguely palatable.

paxton concordas is nice to look at. Got a gentleness in his eyes and the color of his hair that, Raph is realizing, is like ribbon on a knife. It looks frivolous and beautiful, but that’s not even the business end of the thing.

“Mm, the little black number? Or the… lacy pink thing?” Raph is realizing he knows less about sexy unmentionables than he really would like. Maybe he should’ve asked Jasmine Blair for guidance.

His gaze drags pointedly down over Paxton’s chest, before slowly moving back up again.

Raph did a quick perimeter check and didn’t find anything, living or dead, so he returned to his Scolipede, who was finishing up her meal and beginning to groom her clicking pincers with long sweeps of her frontmost legs. “Ugh.”

Topher’s gone peeking into an antechamber and Raph rolled his shoulders and started walking towards him, because he was supposed to be the protection duty in this shindig. “What’d you find?” he called, still a distance away so as not to alarm the man. “Oh. Fuck me.”

He ran a hand through his hair and frowned into the fabric of his mask. He didn’t mind gore (he kept telling himself this) but there was a difference between making corpses and finding old ones. Like they stepped into some weird Twilight Zone between Once A Human and a disgusting inanimate pile of filth.

“So we burn it?” Raph asked, rubbing at his chin and feeling the five o’clock shadow that was always there, no matter the time. “We could… we got rid of the other bodies. Did you get called in to deal with the dope specifically? Because we could call the police.” He tugged on his hair again. “I’m just thinkin’-- and I’m not very good at it, so don’t knock me-- but if we light it, they’ll come anyway, right? But I don’t want this whole place to go up and take the entire district out with it. People live here.”

[attr="class","rapha"]Raph has never been fashionable in his life, and he’s not about to start now. So he’s not fashionably late. He’s just fucking late.

He runs a hand through his sweaty mop of dark hair. Originally he’d been wearing his jacket and a grungy old wifebeater but it was too fucking hot in here so he shed both of them and was now shirtless, jacket over one shoulder, shirt tucked into a pants pocket. He stands against a back wall, a bit away from everyone else, but still close enough to hear and be heard.

He loves his family, loves Orthrus, but sometimes when they all get together in a group-- like, literally all of them, like it’s supposed to be today-- it can be a bit much. Just like any family, he supposes.

Bossman Jack Magnus and @keira had all sorts of plans and machinations going on. Raph wasn’t the thinking type. He left that to them and just stood in front of bullets or Pokemon attacks or fists.

Jasmine Blair slides in and takes her spot right next to Mags, touching and fawning all over him as is her nature.

Motion from his periphery snags his attention and, putting two and two together, he strides over to @virgil and hands him his lighter. With deft fingers and practiced motion, he spins the thing between his knuckles and flicks it without looking.

“Here.”

[attr="class","rapha"]Raph knew Feebas were ugly but he didn't know they were dumb, too; the thing swam right into Fishie's mouth, causing the whale to shake violently, dump Raph in the sea, and spit the hideous Pokemon back out with a loud ptoo noise. Raph was cursing and swearing as he tried to clamber back up onto his Wailmer's smooth back. He was half in and half out of the water when he wrestled for a Pokeball and zapped the Feebas out of spite.

The punch landed in Raph's stomach, instead, shocking him and sending him doubling over and wheezing in pain. Halcyon laughed and laughed and laughed, so hard and so infectious the Elekid started giggling too.

Luke moaned pitiably and reached out to tap a Safari Ball on the thing's foot.

He’s not stunningly handsome on his own-- Raph’s type so rarely ever is-- but he’s got lines on his face from worries and eyes a bit shadowed, like they’ve seen some shit; things Raph only recognizes ‘cause he’s got ‘em, and so, too, do Jack Magnus and @marshall and all the rest of his family.

“Tropical,” Raph says with a smile, drumming his fingers softly on the varnishtop table. The cowboy hat comment earns Pax a snort. “Well, I wanted to see the rabbit ears, so maybe we can make a trade?”

He was dozing in the sand and sun when Fishie’s spout shot up out of the water and a little blue form went flying skyward, squeaking with something either pure terror or pure glee. At the top of its rise the Horsea did a loop in the air, and then fell back into the water with a splash. Moments later, it happened again, to much the same effect.

This went on for a while until the sun started to set and the temperature began to drop, in the way Hoenn liked to plummet tens of degrees when the sun dipped beyond the horizon. He called his team to him to wrap things up and saw the Horsea was tagging along as they all swam to shore. He smiled as he zapped it into a Pokeball.

This wasn’t his first goat rodeo and it wouldn’t be the first, or last, time someone had summed up his appearances and decided he wasn’t worth scratch. It had stopped bothering him long ago. He had a family that cared about him and he liked himself and that was about all that mattered in this life, he thought.

“Well, yeah,” Raph said, gesturing around them. “Nature was the first bathroom, y’know.” He grinned, a foxlike cranking up of one corner of his mouth (like a cigarette would fit perfectly there) and continued on in that line of thinking because he guessed it would get this guy’s goat. “You oughta try it sometime. Pissin’ in the wild. It’s freeing.” He laid hard on that g because he could see the man’s eye twitch almost imperceptibly every time he dropped a glottal.

Raph had never made anyone’s life easier in his existence and he was not about to start now.

He sucked his cheek when the guy asked how the Miltank (or whatever it had been) reacted as it got slurped up into the sky like a goddamn astral spaghetti noodle. “It, uh.” He illustrated with some slow flailing of his arms, flaring his palms out in a bad impression of jazz hands. “It just sort of… did that, in the air.” He shrugged, arms dropping with a clap to his sides. And then, obnoxiously frank, he asked, “Was it aliens?”

He could respect Topher’s frankness. It was hard, Raph often thought, to admit that you were really good at unsavory things, and even harder to fully immerse yourself in it. Like recognized like, and all that jazz.

“Fair,” he said, with no small amount of admiration in his tone. “Gore doesn’t bother me.” He didn’t know if he should really be proud of that but, hell with it, he was. He also didn’t expect to make a career out of it but needs must.

The smell made him curse under his breath (he didn’t mind gore but he wasn’t made of stone) and he pulled a black bandana out of his pocket and tied it around the lower half of his face. He watched with no small amount of abject horror as the small sand creature crawled over the dead meat, golden stream moving like liquid, or like tentacles, crawling into every orifice and devouring.

“Fucking arceus,” he said, half in revulsion and half in awe. Topher’s order snapped him back to himself, and he nodded, rolling a Pokeball on his hand to release his Scolipede, who descended on a second dead body with the voracious appetite of a species whose biological purpose was cleaning up the detritus left behind by the processes of life. Her mandibles clicked as she ate with a wet, half-slosh, half-clicking gusto.

“Right. I’ll do a perimeter quicklike.” He nodded to the cleaner, and stepped away to do just that, walking briskly. He wasn’t about to lose his guts, but it didn’t mean he had to like it, and the chomping, sloshy noises of his centipede eating a corpse would bury itself into his brain matter like a fucking Cuterebra and certainly echo in his nightmares for weeks.
