team rocket has managed to break into the cave, but now it bleeds just as the people fighting outside do. his houndoom trots at a heel alongside him as he follows the rivers of purple mist in pursuit of the source.[break][break]
he never finds it, but he does find illeana reyes alone, talking to herself just out of earshot for it to be intelligible. it's unfortunate that she's in the thick of war, but kinship doesn't override duty.[break][break]
"thunder fang," is whispered, then a steady thud of paws against the floor crescendo as the houndoom closes in on the head professor and her venusaur. jaws open, teeth crackling with electricity, then they try to close together around the grass-type's back leg as a paralyzing bite.

the lightning stiletto is flung. marcus throws himself sideways — a graceless attempt to avoid the weapon in what little time he has to react — and feels pain explode along his arm. the pop of electricity propels him further and he lands with a grunt on his uninjured side. [break][break]
he groans a curse at the smell of his own burning skin, but persists in trying to get back on his feet. [break][break]his gengar's own flesh blisters in the heat of the barely-avoided flame charge. the shadow-type ducks to one side with a howling laugh, using the close quarters to try and deliver a shadow punch.[break][break]

the roaring moon dips its nose and plummets, letting the dragon pulse whiz by and rend a pidgeot in half. twenty years of rocket business leaves marcus indifferent to the sight of the ranger dropping through the sky, but his gaze still tracks their descent until Navy begins to climb back to his altitude.

"keep away from them," he warns his noivern in a low voice. "hurricane."

violent winds are whipped up with a flap of the dragon's wings, a nuisance obstacle for the gym leader to overcome. as the hurricane spins in his general direction, noivern turns and flies in the opposite direction. [break][break]

the shadow storm surges forward, but it's met with the same indifference of protect that reuniclus' attacks had encountered. it howls over the barrier, feeling it out for weaknesses. as the attack abates, so too does their shield, shimmering as its weakened shell dissolves. [break][break]
"odd to see a shadow pokemon with league personnel," he comments, idle observation. it's a shame he has to destroy it to get at the man hiding behind its flower shields.

[break][break] Navy , riding one of hoenn's many anomalies, is easy to pick out. from a distance, marcus watches the way he takes out rockets with care, striking their mounts so they fall but don't break themselves against the ocean below. [break][break]how interesting. [break][break]a pat between the shoulder blades is all his noivern needs to act. the dragon gives navy none of the quarter he extends towards rocket, launching a dragon pulse that drives to take out one of roaring moon's wings.[break][break]
