"aw, it's a baby ralts!" momo coos, holding her face with her hands. [break][break]

the polteageist looks eager to engage it. momo shakes her head. "no, rose, let's leave that one alone. poor thing... i'm sure it would be too startled if we approached it, anyway." there's a saying that ralts flee at the smallest sign of violence within someone, or when someone's heart isn't entirely pure. momo likes to think she's a good person, yet admits that there are some shadows flicking at the base of her heart, mostly in the form of self-doubts and fears, but strong enough that she's certain something as sensitive as a ralts can feel it. [break][break]

rose the shiny polteageist, at the risk of sounding just a bit disappointed, makes a noise halfway between a sigh and a ghostly groan. momo simply laughs and tugs it along by the handle, a gentle pinch guiding it towards another direction. [break][break]

momo exhaled, taking a step back as aimi wreaked havoc on any tinkaton that so much as got near them. there were times where aimi stared longingly at the fallen parts of the radio tower, but a sharp "don't you dare!" from her trainer discouraged any unruly behavior. [break][break]

as aimi dealt with many same-species skirmishes, momo turned her attention on roy, smiling. "roy, it's nice to meet you! and thanks, hehe!" at the rate her pokemon were growing, though, it might benefit the coordinator to fit in battles or gym challenges in between contests. she thought of this the same time as roy spoke, his words bringing her back to reality. [break][break]

"and not really! i was just passing through, and felt bad for the poor radio tower." the screeching metal and sounds of battle resounded throughout. momo was a stark picture of pink alongside the tinkaton-centered carnage. she merely giggled and said, "actually, i'm pretty new to hoenn myself. but when aimi acts out like this, it already feels like home-sweet-home! what about you?" [break][break]

"okay, rose, let's see how much you remembered from our lesson. if we see a wild pokemon that i don't want, do we—" she holds up two different flash cards, one with a drawing of polteageist beating up a wild pokemon, and the other with a drawing of polteageist minding its own business— "attack the wild pokemon, or leave it be?" [break][break]

rose the shiny polteageist floats closer to the flash cards, pondering. it looks between the cards and its trainer, humming in thought. then, the black tea pokemon reaches its spectral hand out to touch the latter flash card, smiling pleasantly. [break][break]

momo is overjoyed, cheering loudly in response. "that's it! you've got this, rose! you're the best!" momo puts the flash cards in her bag, and pulls out a spare poke ball instead. "now, the exception to the rule is if the pokemon is violent and attacks us first, then you're totally allowed to punch it good. or use one of your cool shadow ball attacks, whichever you want!" [break][break]

rose coos, and floats after its trainer with a content smile on its face. together with rose, momo heads down the path, looking for the next new friend to add to her team — hopefully. [break][break]

this isn’t a dream, but a hope. [break][break]

she stands there on stage, breathing heavy. the spotlights are on her, still, so bright that she can’t see ten feet past the edge of the stage. so harsh that she can’t spot her parents in the crowd, can’t hear their cheers over the echoing silence. to her left, silque the sylveon stands in repose, ribbon feelers extended to curve around its body, embellishing its body for even a humble bow. [break][break]

did they like the performance? no, did they love it? [break][break]

momo doesn’t know if they did, but what she does know is this: light eats shadow, hope beats despair, and determination shines through stagnation. [break][break]

the silent crowd breaks out into raucous cheers, and momo could cry real tears if they didn’t ruin the gemstones and blush she placed on her cheeks. so instead, she smiles with them, and gives the cursty they all expect of her. silque coos in a beautiful voice, and bows with her trainer at once. [break][break]

they loved it, that much is obvious. but now, their love and affection begets a new question, one filled with countless dreams and endless hopes. [break][break]

do they love it enough to see it again? [break][break]

can she make them love her even more?[break][break]

and then, when the results are finally announced, momo can’t hear her own name amid a flurry of preemptive cheers, but still wonders: [break][break]

is it enough? [break][break]

(in a world they know well, the celebration doesn’t last long. momo shines among the coordinators present, but, much more pressing matters come to be. it doesn’t happen overnight, but days bleed into weeks of stories, worries, rumors. [break][break]

then the hills cresting lavender town’s outskirts go up in flames, and momo gets the distinct feeling that she won’t be performing on stage for a while to come. [break][break]

she gets a lot of feelings that day.) [break][break]

but in this world, her doubts are slowly put to rest. the next day comes and people are raving about her as they’d been the night before, so curious about her, asking what she’s gonna do and when she’s gonna go pro. even SHIGURE URUHA teases her about it, and momo becomes a rare-type of shy, tracing a strand of hair back into its place behind her ear, roseate eyes blushing with uncertainty. [break][break]

“so? what’s the plan?” [break][break]

“well, to be honest, i dunno! i mean, i always thought i’d get this far, but i think the main thing for me is…” [break][break]

and it’s then that she’ll look down at her bag. aimi and silque, her first two friends, her only pokemon in all the wide world. do they love the sights that momo sees? do they enjoy the scenes that momo creates? [break][break]

she thinks long and hard about what it is it that a momo sakai wants to do in the big wide world. [break][break]

and she glances back at her best friend, grinning with brightened resolve. “i just wanna make people happy!” [break][break]

whoa, momo thought. he's so cool! the other trainer seemed very skilled, and with his charizard blasting warning flames towards the tinkatons, very reasonable as well. most other people would resort to killing first thing, and in the case of tinkaton, momo could understand the need to fight violence with violence. so how nice of this guy to not do that when it'd be a totally valid option to go for! [break][break]

"oh, you're right about that! aimi, c'mere!" after summoning her tinkaton closer to her, momo pulled out a long, white, sequined scarf from her bag. because momo was a coordinator, first and foremost, and had more accessories and clothes in her bag than she knew what to do with. but the other's advice held true, and momo tied the scarf around the hammer's head, making a neat bow at the top. surely this would indicate that her tinkaton was not one of the wild ones—that, and the fact that momo would be sticking to her pokemon as close as possible. [break][break]

"and you're welcome! thank you for helping clear them out! and nicely, too." well, as nice as raging flames from a charizard's mouth could be, but nice enough. "i'm momo, by the way! hehe, let's do this!" she turned to aimi, and nodded once. "see that other tinkaton over there? scare her off with another big gigaton hammer!" [break][break]

aimi the tinktaon did as she was told, and smacked one of her wild sisters hard with her now-decorated hammer. the sequins caught the sunlight and reflected, making for a beautiful (but, again, violent) display. momo staying near her new and old allies, all the while. [break][break]

"h-hey, come on, i'm trying—eek!" even in a tease, shigure has her down to rights when it comes to how scared momo is. she doesn't say much more, except for a muffled "you don't have to lie...if they get got, i'll probably hear it...weh..." the rest of the movie passes by slowly, painfully. in truth, it feels like there are two pichus crying and sobbing into shigure. one is just a lot bigger than a typical pichu, and much pinker, too. [break][break]

when the ending credits come on, momo peers through the gaps in her fingers to make sure it's true, then finally shows her face with a relieved sigh. "that was rough!" and she hadn't even been able to finish the movie in its entirety, so she couldn't imagine being as brave as shigure had been the whole time! unflinching and unfazed, though perhaps they'd always managed things like scary movies better than momo ever could. yet even though it was all fake, even if it was just a silly movie, there's no denying the very real and very present fear that fills momo like a second breath, her laughter painted in nervous shades of joy. "oh no, don't tell me there's a sequel. i'll never make it through that! but as long as the poochyena is okay..." [break][break]

the lights come on, and momo stands to her feet, making sure that all the pokemon are accounted for. it seems like shigure's cool extends to his pokemon in several ways, as they managed the whole thing better than momo's pokemon did. still, she feels comfort at the sight of all their pokemon friends around them. she reaches down to pet spriggy, and glances in big h's direction to see if the honchkrow was even slightly bothered by it all—nope! [break][break]

then she glances at shigure, a new idea popping up in her head. "now that the movie's over, let's do something else! i think we should play that new rhythm game together! they're still giving out free pulls, so we could rank up some points in the event and—"
[break][break]

BOOM. a loud noise cuts off her words, but not for long. still reeling from the haunting on rotom street, momo's nerves are completely shot, to the point where she shrieks briefly but sharply enough to compete with the volume of that sudden noise. it's only then that silver the grovyle opens his eyes, dropping the cool facade as soon as his trainer seems genuinely upset. "o-okay, guys, i know i was a total weenie during the movie, but that doesn't mean you can play pranks on me! or was that one of those sonic booms—?" [break][break]

THUD, THUD. more noises follow the initial one, and now it sounds like there's a source to the racket: right above them, on the second story of momo's home, a small floor dedicated to only a couple of bedrooms and a bathroom. she stares hopelessly at the ceiling, pink eyes wide as saucers. her listless stare slowly straightens out, and she does another headcount around the room. everyone is definitely accounted for. and there's no other pokemon in the house right now. [break][break]

so what's with all the noise upstairs? "shigure...?" [break][break]

"right here is fine with me!" momo nodded as she took her space across from moss, setting down her azurill. "listen, it's okay if you don't win. just try your best, okay?" she patted it softly, hoping the pep talk would help its nerves. mochi the azurill stopped squeaking, but the look of concern never left her eyes. [break][break]

mochi bounced on her tail, inching further and further until she reached her spot on the road. having a pokemon battle right in the middle of the city was certainly one way to do it! but momo didn't mind, as long as things didn't get out of hand. "okay, moss. you can go first since i'm the one who asked you to battle, after all!" the coordinator placed her hands on her hips, nodding sagely as though she said something wise just now. "let's do this!"[break][break]

riley, so that was his name! momo was afraid that he'd been angry with her, but was very grateful to see that wasn't the case. if anything, they seemed to be on the same wavelength for a moment, because if he hadn't offered that they go together, she would've brought up the idea, herself! "what a coincidence! i'm pretty new to hoenn, myself! we're kinda in the same boat, right? seeing all the sights and whatnot!" [break][break]

and catching a lot of pokemon, too. in momo's case, at least, she never battled people or caught pokemon as much as she had in recent days! it was fun and sometimes encounters like those brought people together, too, a little cherry on top of everything. kind of like the way it brought together riley and momo! she glanced at his camera just then, and said, "oh, wow, so you're a photographer? that's so neat! i bet you must have seen some really cool sights!" despite being a coordinator and often performing in front of a camera, herself, momo had no skill in taking photos beyond the occasional selfie and food pic. how cool! [break][break]

"and i'd love for you to join me! i bet we'll find all kinds of neat pokemon out here!" she thought of his display against that cranidos just now, and how easy they made it seem, like it was nothing at all. "plus you and your umbreon were really cool just now!" [break][break]

she knew that his pokemon were still adjusting to her and silque's presence, though, so momo stopped bothering the eevolutions for a bit, and started walking slowly in the next direction. there was an impressive grove of trees up ahead, with all sorts of fruits growing from their branches. the ocean was still in sight, and momo glanced out at the distant waters, muttering in awe. "whoa, it's so blue!" then she glanced back at the grove, where several pokemon weaved in and out between the trees. "looks like there's some pokemon over there! i'm gonna take a peek..." [break][break]

she moved as quietly as possible, silque the sylveon darting after her. she had a target in sights: a large and sweet-smelling appletun that had been resting beneath one of the trees. she nodded at silque, and the sylveon gracefully ran in the apple nectar pokemon's direction. once she got close enough, she placed a draining kiss on top of the apple's hump, glittering fairy energy swirling and weakening the appletun as a result. the dragon had fallen onto its haunches, tired and drained, giving momo the perfect chance to catch it in a spare poke ball. [break][break]

"yes!" she turned to riley, waving the poke ball in the air like a trophy. (silque copied her trainer's movements, waving its ribbon feelers in the air as a greeting to the umbreon-espeon duo, in turn.) "riley, i caught an appletun! i've always wanted one, hehe! what about you?"[break][break]

he accepts her candy and her crazy ideas in full! momo laughs, saying, "you're welcome! and no worries, let's take a load off!" [break][break]

she follows his lead as they change venues from the path to the side of the path where a comfy bench is located. on the way there, she takes one of those little star-shaped candies for herself, popping it in her mouth (squeaking just the tiniest bit when it almost gets swallowed whole, instead) with a hum. [break][break]

tastes like home. [break][break]

the sugar-star is sickly sweet as it dissolves in her mouth, and she munches on a few more while considering shigure's comments from before. 'hammer's big' is a huuuuuge understatement. sometimes momo doesn't get how something so little like tinkaton could tug around a huge hammer (a hammer that weighs twice as much as momo! maybe even three or four times as much!) all by itself, but far be it from her to question the pokemon powers at large! [break][break]

"heehee, that breeze is so nice!" momo stretches happily, half-yawning and half-cooing as a refreshing gale ruffles through her hair, her clothes. she leans back on the bench, eyes trained to the sky. "it's a perfect day! i'm glad i'm spending it with you." she pulls more candies and snacks out of her bag, and everything that isn't in its original package finds its home in cute pink containers, instead. "how's work been treating you, by the way? i bet it's super busy and tiring all the time, huh? baby pokemon have so much energy!" [break][break]
