"yay! thank you!" momo brightens at the realization that maki actually agreed to share contact info. so she really is interested! or at the very least, she's willing to let momo talk about these things in greater length. [break][break]

and though it might not seem it, momo truly appreciates those that let her speak her mind to such an extent. it's one thing to be quiet and listless, but it's another to be so attentive and understanding in the same way. momo figures she'll not only make it worth maki's while, but she'll have the makings of a fantastic friendship under way! [break][break]

so goes the way of the hopeful and optimistic! "and you can always text me, too, y'know. about your training and your pokemon and what have you! i'd love to hear about it anytime, really!" the only time momo doesn't answer her phone is when she's actively competing in a contest, or when her rotomphone is playing the occasional prank on her. but otherwise, keeping in touch with friends is one of her greatest joys these days, and not one she takes lightly despite everything. [break][break]

as for the topic of contests... "if you ever wanted to see a contest up close, you just let me know!" they always allow a certain number of entry tickets for the coordinators to give to family or friends, but admittedly momo hasn't made much use of that despite her time in hoenn thus far. though behind an overwhelming amount of joy and excitement, there is a small bit of hesitance, too. shy in the way that despite everything, there isn't a line of people queueing up to see momo, and there would have to be more and more contests before it ever gets to that point. [break][break]

but for now, and for the one named maki yukimura in front of her, none of that even matters! all that matters is that she's made a possible friend today, if something as simple as small talk and contact information exchange can be considered friendship. but it needs not be doubted whether or not this applies to momo: her gentle cradling of the rotomphone—fresh with maki's number and sparkling with the possibility of keeping in touch with her even after this—says it all.

momo had expected that raikiri would be fast, but boy, was it fast. much faster than momo imagined, anticipated, or dealt with. to be honest, though, she only felt fear for a moment. once the colors and sights started blurring, she held on even tighter, eyes closed against the world. the wind roared around them, the sounds of the razor-sharp gales mixing with the speedy sparks emanating from the zeraora's paws. [break][break]

before she knew it, the ride had ended, and they were in front of the lake. at first glance, momo knew this place was suspicious, because it had been so quiet. there were little, if any, wild pokemon roaming the water's surface or the grass around it. were they all kidnapped or lost the same way her bulbasaur had been? [break][break]

"thank you," she muttered to josh as he checked up on her, their pace slowing down considerably. when they got closer to the areas of interest, momo summoned one of her pokemon: silver the grovyle! he was one of the best battlers she had, and if they needed extra power, he could certainly provide it. but she'd follow josh's lead first and foremost, acting within reasonable expectations. she looked to him, then, awaiting his judgement as they began their investigation. "oh, i totally got ahead of myself there! my name is momo, it's great to meet you!" she grinned, face flushed with some parts embarrassment but most parts gratitude. to think that the host and the recipient of celebration would be this nice and friendly! momo really struck out! [break][break]

it started making sense why this party was so wild. it was an occasion that outdid any tame get-together momo had been to before, of which there had been many considering the world of pokemon contests was halfway composed of social parties, anyway. but this seemed like a much different experience, one momo guessed would be really fun, too! [break][break]

but she definitely did not want to throw up, so she'd skip out on flying rides or the big vibrating ones. at the sight of a kantonian persian, however, momo felt like she had a chance to ride, yet. "serena seems like a good start! do i have to do or wear anything special, though?" because otherwise, she was totally excited to ride a big cat! but big seemed like an understatement, this had to be the largest persian momo's ever seen in her life! wow!! her eyes lit up like stars, smile streaking like a comet. "really? thank you, thank you! i've been looking for an opponent all day, it feels like!" and better yet, she found someone that would smile back at her, a current of joy like electricity running through them. good things really come to people who wait! he detached a pokeball from his necklace (whoa that's such a good idea, momo thought distantly. that's the type of design she could work into a contest outfit or two someday), as well as brought one out of his pocket, and introduced two little cuties to momo! she laughed softly, waving at the buizel and grotle in greeting. "hello there, weezer and tort! thanks for being good sports today! these are my pokemon, too. this is mochi—" momo said as she lifted up the azurill high into the sky, showing off the little blue pokemon like it was her child or an animated lion cub, or something— "and my grovyle over there is named silver! say hi, silver!" [break][break]

silver the grovyle opened one eye to glance at the male trainer and his pokemon, closing it and stretching nonchalantly. momo giggled at his expense, knowing he was super excited to fight under the cool exterior. what a show-off! "hehe, sounds like your third is real naughty, then!" she turned back to him, tilting her head slightly. "i totally get it. let's have our little guys duke it out! oh!" she held mochi the azurill with one hand, and extended the other one straight out towards him, seemingly for a handshake. "my name's momo, by the way! thanks again for agreeing to battle with me!" [break][break]

the girl and all her endearment were taken by surprise, a sudden voice cutting sharply into the air, the sound of hurried footsteps coming towards her direction. [break][break]

she glanced up to see another trainer, a boy with dark hair and an indignant look in his eyes — the latter lessening as soon as his sights were on momo and her sylveon. she straightened herself out, one hand placed delicately over her chest while the other still clutched onto the berries. "oh, are these your pokemon? i'm sorry, i didn't mean to surprise you!" [break][break]

he cut himself off before he could finish that initial thought, but momo's thoughts finished the fragment for him. i guess it's fair to doubt me, i could've been a baddie! she offered a soft, sweet smile as an olive branch, gently motioning at the eevolutions as she said, "your friends are very nice! my sylveon likes them a lot!" [break][break]

but before she could answer his question, she noticed something in the distance, in the space past his limbs and shoulder, all the way in the tall grass behind them both. there were some rustic-looking pokemon, but among them, a single species stood out. a klawf, and by the looks of it, it was looking for a fight. as it began to frantically approach their group, momo glanced at sylveon and said, "silque! use your moonblast and take care of that klawf!" [break][break]

in a quick but elegant display, the intertwining pokemon sent out a beautiful sphere of glittering energy, which once sent out towards the klawf, knocked the ambush pokemon flat on its back. scared, the klawf retreated, and momo exhaled happily at a defense well done! she turned back to the other and relaxed a bit more, shoulders slumping and smile brightening. "sorry about that. i meant to say that i was here to catch pokemon and look at the sights! um, what about you?" as silque returned to her trainer, momo giggled, and added on, "oh, i don't know if you heard me earlier, but my name is momo! and this is silque! it's nice to meet you!" [break][break]

"i'm so so excited to see what kind of outfits we'll find!" momo cheers as she walks alongside genny, the two of them intent on spending their time at a halloween party shop. the coordinator loves any chance to dress up, so needless to say the autumnal holiday is one of her favorites! and big sis genny is so nice to invite momo, and even nicer to offer to pay for their dresses! while momo couldn't possibly refuse such kindness, she endeavors to find the cutest dresses ever for the two of them! maybe they can even be matching!! [break][break]

then a strange and disembodied voice calls out to them, asking red or blue? [break][break]

"wh-what was that?!" momo squeaks, practically jumping out of her skin. her entire body alights with fear: pink strands of hair radiating out as she bobs with movement, roseate eyes blown wide with anticipation. her hand instinctively reaches for chica the chikorita, herding the leaf pokemon closer to her body, the pokemon matching its trainer in unsettled nerves. [break][break]

both the girl and her chikorita start cowering behind the ranger, but stick close to her for fear of something pulling the two of them apart. whatever's in that alleyway seems like bad news, and though momo trusts genny and blue to handle it, part of her is worried, nonetheless. "o-okay, big sis genny." momo says, carefully orbiting the other's space. [break][break]

she still peeks through the space between the other's arm, too curious about the source of the voice to look away for long. [break][break]

no way, no way, no way, no way! not only is there a super cute pokemon in sight, but a shiny pokemon at that? momo gasps, rooted in place as the bright pink polteageist floats through the air — seemingly unaware of any dangers around it. [break][break]

satin and tsuki glance up at their trainer, their dark eyes glimmering in delight. the two of them are more than capable fighters, but momo doesn't want to ambush the poor thing, let alone overkill it! no, this capture should be simple and sweet. she looks at her grovyle and nods, the two of them sharing an unspoken signal. "silver, use one good night slash to knock it out, okay?" [break][break]

and momo waits with a poke ball in hand. silver the grovyle follows the command effortlessly. it dashes through the thicket, leaves and branches harmlessly scraping its body as it moves. then, dark energy surrounds the razor-sharp leaves on its arms, coating the blades with an outer layer like miasma. [break][break]

in one quick motion, it strikes out at the shiny polteageist, hurting it just enough to hinder it, but not enough to make it suffer. as the black tea pokemon wobbles in the air, weakened by the attack, momo launches a poke ball at it. [break][break]

the capsule shakes only once before stopping. momo's eyes water with unshed tears, and she runs towards silver to give him a big hug before pulling in satin and tsuki into the embrace, as well. "we did it! we did it! oh my gosh! i can't believe it, i've never seen a shiny pokemon like this before!" she picks up the poke ball with the newest acquisition inside, showing it off to the three pokemon currently with her. "from this day on, your name is rose! welcome to the fold!" [break][break]

"oh, it's just a tranquill!" momo says, pointing at the bird coming into view. the tranquill perches on the branch of a nearby tree, seemingly unaware of the girl and her pokemon. silver the grovyle stands up straight, nodding in the wild pokemon's direction as if to ask that the one? [break][break]

momo shakes her head. "that's alright, it's high up there and i don't want you guys to go through the trouble. come on, let's get a move on!" she ushers the rest of her party to leave the tranquill alone, laughing when satin, silver, and tsuki gather around her. "this way, this way!" [break][break]

momo didn't realize how few trainers there actually were in the world, until she kept waiting for a trainer to pass her by. even though pokemon battles weren't her main interest, she found them fun! and with more and more pokemon joining her team, it made her want to branch out with battles, too! [break][break]

yet no one seemed to be interested in a battle with her. she asked politely each time, but every person that passed by was either a non-battler or wasn't interested in giving her the time of day. were there no more trainers in hoenn who wanted to battle? [break][break]

"excuse me!" she asked the next person who walked by. "are you a trainer? and if you are, would you be interested in a battle with my little guys?" she held up an azurill in her arm, the small blue pokemon squeaking out of nervousness. then beside her was a much more capable fighter, a grovyle that was leaning coolly against a lamppost, eyes closed as though it was enjoying the breeze. "we could really use the experience!" [break][break]

"wow, what a nice day!" momo cooed as she stretched, eyes turned skyward. it had been sunny earlier, but now some big fluffy clouds were coming into view, carried by a cool breeze! it felt like paradise on earth, heaven on hoenn! [break][break]

making this the perfect chance to go out and look for new pokemon! "why don't we all head in that direction and—silque? where are you going?" as momo was about to lead the charge, her sylveon went dashing towards one of the clearings up ahead. she glanced at her other pokemon, recalling them to their respective poke balls before chasing after the eevolution. [break][break]

"silque, wait up!" she followed sylveon, bounding after the intertwining pokemon with a look of concern on her face. this certainly wasn't how she expected this outing to go, and silque wasn't the type of pokemon to act rashly. [break][break]

when they reached the clearing, momo could see why sylveon had been so eager to get here. wild pokemon were teeming, there'd be plenty of chances to catch some new friends here! but more than that, there seemed to be friends of similar souls nearby. momo spotted an espeon and an umbreon in the distance, the likes of which her own sylveon had been drawn to. [break][break]

the sylveon approached the other two eevolutions, eager to say hello. momo felt a sense of relief that silque hadn't been running around for nothing, and slowly approached the pokemon. "hey there, i'm momo!" she introduced to the espeon and umbreon. were they wild pokemon or someone else's? they certainly seemed to be sticking together, at the very least, and were now on high alert at the presence of a new human. [break][break]

"that's my sylveon, her name is silque! she must have sensed you two were nearby and was excited to meet you, hehe." she leaned down close a little closer, and pulled out some berries from her bag. "want a snack? i've got plenty!" she offered it to all three eevolutions, laughing happily when silque gently nudged the other two into taking momo's offerings. so cute! [break][break]

she hadn't yet noticed that their trainer was just nearby, though... [break][break]

it's a big day for momo! she has heard rumors of cute fairy and normal types hanging out in the hills near mauville city, and so finally while in the area, she has the chance to capitalize on said rumors! her current team consists of silver the grovyle, tsuki the clefable, and satin the delcatty. the three of them are out of their poke balls, and momo laughs as they all run and make merry in the space around her. [break][break]

well, almost all of them. "silver? aren't you going to play with them?" she asks her grovyle. he merely scoffs, turning his head to gaze at the horizon, instead. despite having such a stubborn streak, he seems to really care for momo. he doesn't leave her side to join the other two in goofing off, and it's a quiet gesture that speaks the loudest volumes in momo's mind. [break][break]

"then stay near me, okay?" she pats the grovyle on its head, laughing when the wood gecko pokemon seems embarrassed. then she hears a noise, and both her and her pokemon are on high alert. "ooh, what could that be?" [break][break]
