they dance. there's hesitation in some places, but that's to be expected. momo dances for the first time with another person in this way, and the movements are both fast-paced and painstakingly slow. raw emotion, practiced discipline, both things clumsily struggling to find a balance within the two girls. [break][break]

in the moments where momo leads the dance, she feels powerful, unbridled, and energetic. she draws from a new source of inspiration within her, grinning at maki in between turns and movements, the music and the motions sweeping them both off their feet. [break][break]

then when maki takes control again, momo witnesses sheer artistry, a part of maki she hadn't expected to see nor witness up close. [break][break]

then the other girl takes momo into her arms and lifts her, and momo rolls with it, but part of her is stunned at just how strong maki actually is! momo could definitely not do that, herself! [break][break]

the song ends and while maki makes an abrupt stop, momo slowly comes to a heel, breathing hard as she let the excitement of the dance overtake her. "oh wow!" she cheers, "that was so amazing!" i can't believe i actually did that! [break][break]

momo fools herself again into think the end is nigh. between her tinkaton's powerful attack and the garchomp's dogged determination—both of which are made possible by the other trainers' slowing attacks, and the dark-haired man's refusal to let go of the iron bundle, OMG?—momo thinks they've got the situation handled. [break][break]

and then bam, the train comes outta nowhere and pancakes her precious tinkaton!! "aimi!" momo yelps as she rushes to her pokemon's side, but stops short when a new horror appears before them all. [break][break]

a secondiron bundle, even bigger than the first one. from the glowing eyes and metallic body, momo finally realizes that this strange pokemon couldn't be a delibird at all! but some sort of fake delibird, and an insane one, at that! [break][break]

double the trouble meant double the power, too. momo recalls her tinkaton for now, not sure if the pokemon is KO'd or not, but doesn't want her in harm's way while she's vulnerable, anyway. then the ice beam and hydro pump combo fly out at full force, and it takes everything for momo to not get instantly thrown back like she was thrown the last time by its deluge. [break][break]

unfortunately, dodging the water leaves her vulnerable to the ice, and ice crystals grow at her feet, freezing her stuck in place. "oops!" thankfully she still has her cherrim and her rotom out, and she nods to the latter. "desperate times call for desperate measures! rem, get as close to those two pokemon as you can and use discharge on them!" [break][break]

her rotom levitates ahead, phasing through the air as it gets closer to the iron bundles, then floats near the top of the post office, trying to give as much space as possible so the area-of-effect attack doesn't catch poor John Sullivan in it, too. but if it does... [break][break]

sorry! while the rotom attempts to zap the two paradox pokemon, momo tells her cherrim to use sunny day in an attempt to make it a little warmer?! will it unfreeze the ice?! or at least bring some much-needed sunshine to this awful situation?! at least it's something and poor kira only half-understands what's going on, anyway, so! [break][break]

the last round! momo huffs, determined to finish strong. she had her ups-and-downs in this contest thus far, but all it did was reinforce the fact that she still had a lot to learn if she wanted to go far in the contest world. and after this, she'd become a bubble tea master, as well! or at least, she hopes so. [break][break]

the theme for the fifth round offers them even more creativity. winter holiday flavors come to mind, and momo thinks about her favorite flavors and scents. peppermint? gingerbread? snickerdoodle? [break][break]

"okay, rose and i are gonna finish strong!" she pumps a fist into the air, trying to pump herself up as well as her fellow contestants and the staff, too. our flavor this round is going to be another fruity-sweet take on wintertime: winter candy apple! it's also going to feature some brown sugar clumps, lots of whipped cream, and brown-sugar bubbles! there will also be some candied apple pieces, too. sweet's my game, but momo's my name! let's all finish strong, good luck to everyone!!" [break][break]

with that, the coordinator jumps straight into creation. she cuts fresh apples into many pieces and slices, juicing some and leaving others whole. she macerates other slices, coating them in sugar and leaving them to dry after soaking in a tasty but sugary-sweet brine. the secret ingredient to everything is a little bit of appletun peel thrown into the mix, too. and then her polteageist stirs around the brown-sugar bubbles, adding them and the whipped cream at the very end. momo's last drink of the day! she throws her hands in the air and cheers. "ta-dah!" [break][break]

Dear Father Winter,

This is my first time writing to you! Hello! I never knew that Hoenn had such a mysterious figure during the holidays! Doesn't it make it feel like it's really Wintertide? I'm so excited! [break][break]

What I want for Wintertide is for all my friends to be happy! SHIGURE URUHA , Genevieve Cromwell , Asher Baran , MAKI YUKIMURA , and so many more deserve to have good things happen to them. Whether it's gifts, a kind word, or just someone to be happy around, I hope you can make their days better and brighter. [break][break]

If I'm being honest, I'm not sure if I have any goals left for catching pokemon! When I first got to Hoenn, I thought I'd take so long to find all the cute pokemon I could ever want! Instead, I've caught so many new pokemon, and made so many new friends! Now it's less about seeking more, and instead learning to make this place a home for those I've befriended thus far. How can I make everyone happy? Sometimes I feel like a LYCANROC howling at the moon, like I'm crying out for a wish that only I and I alone want. [break][break]

Sorry to sound so rant-y, Father Winter! I don't know how these letters really work! [break][break]

Though if I could change something in my past... I don't know if it'd still be what happened to the Kanto Region. Sometimes I wished that I never hated anyone, instead. That I could find joy and affection in everyone I meet! I like to believe that's what I'm already doing, but I can never be sure. [break][break]

Oh, by the way, did you know about something called PARADOX pokemon? Apparently, even though they look so similar to normal pokemon, they shouldn't really exist? Or something like that? I might not have been listening to the entire explanation when a friend told me about it... hehe... [break][break]

What else can I say? Well, I make it sound like I'm not pretty happy myself, but that's not the truth! I'm so happy with how my life is going! The only thing I would change in the present is if I could meet some really cool legendary or mythical pokemon someday! Like CELEBI or DIALGA! Then again, wouldn't that be kinda scary? Maybe it's better off if I just stick to the usual. But mystery is half the fun of an adventure, wouldn't you say? [break][break]

Lastly, I hope my future is filled with even more fun than it is now. I hope to enter more contests, and eventually win a contest here in Hoenn, too! I also hope that I can meet even more cute pokemon, and make even more friends! Even if this is a selfish wish, I want it with all my heart. [break][break]

at big sis genny's behest, momo stands up, giving both the ranger and vaporeon a mite of space between them. momo had been prepared for some super cool ranger display (maybe she'd seen too many movies where the good guys always talk into devices and a team of back-up good guys come rushing in from outta nowhere), but is equally surprised at what genny does decide to do. [break][break]

the notes that come out of her are sweet, soft, and brilliant. momo feels as much of a pokemon herself, listening to the woman's melodies, feeling even more joy when her mudkip joins in. the soft meeping and mawing of the mudfish pokemon adds an extra layer of cuteness, and momo and chica sway as they also listen to the song, but join in the vaporeon in its rapt attention. [break][break]

the vaporeon is calm. [break][break]

momo giggles, and gently draws nearer to genny once again. "wow, your singing voice is so nice! that vaporeon looks so calm now..." and momo feels a sense of calm, too, but that much is obvious. "you're amazing, big sis genny!"

just as momo had thought they'd finally caught the unruly pokemon, it escapes their very clutches! running past all the pokemon, and disarming the mega gengar with a magic spell tag, making a break past the gardevoir and straight towards the post office! [break][break]

momo gasps, filled with shock and awe. "oh you little thing!! stop shuckling around!!" to think it still had the nerve to go looking for more presents! is this pokemon some kind of demented santa, or something!? [break][break]

bzzt. momo blinks and looks at her rotom, who returns to her with a half-smile, as though to shrug off the initial failure as something trivial. momo sighs, reaching out for her pokemon with an affectionate touch. "yeah, you're right! let's not give up!" she turns to her tinkaton and cherrim, as well, scooping up the cherry blossom pokemon into her arms, and telling the hammer pokemon to follow her lead so they'd save more space in the narrow alleyway. [break][break]

she acknowledges everyone else with a nod. "okay, you guys! let's snag that naughty bird!" she doesn't know any of their names yet, but it's something she can ask for later, when they've finally got this thing pinned down. momo makes a mad rush through the rest of the alleyway, and back out into the open street where the paradox pokemon is still visible from. "aimi, use skitter smack!" [break][break]

momo's tinkaton barrels through the crowd, knocking everyone in her way down like a bowling ball downs pins. after several shouts and rude stares, the tinkaton bursts forth with bug-imbued energy, fast in the way she sneaks up behind the paradox pokemon, her eyes glinting as she raises her hammer in an attempt to bonk the naughty robo-bird on the noggin! [break][break]

"alright!" momo pumped her fist into the air with asher, equally excited to get started. she saw an understanding glimmer in his eyes, and decided at once that she was really glad to have run into someone like asher tonight. it made the holiday feel extra festive, with the arts and crafts as a fun activity on top of it all! [break][break]

the assembly went by rather smoothly, the whole process became easy and fun, especially when there was a second person to help things along. momo glanced at the finished product, the placement of the charms very eye-catching and full of character! she nodded at his statement, and said, "i think so too! it'll be fun to see a familiar face on the contest floor, hehe!" she didn't have many coordinator friends in the region so far, so this would be a first! "it looks fantastic! your friend's gonna love this one to bits, i just know it!" [break][break]

momo leans down low with genny, waiting for the vaporeon to react to them, as wary but approachable as possible. momo figures that she'd be just as scared in this situation as the vaporeon is. though momo herself is far from home, not knowing where you are in the world is a scary thing, not to mention being teleported to somewhere as unpredictable as hoenn! [break][break]

the water eevolution runs full speed ahead, crashing into the two girls' arms. momo wraps her arms around the vaporeon, muttering a little "oh!" followed by a giggle of sheer delight. what a cute, sweet thing this vaporeon is! [break][break]

then it breaks out into heartbroken cries, and momo glances at genny with her own eyes starting to water, too! "oh, big sis genny! the vaporeon is crying!" then she calms herself down, laughing despite the emotion that rose up within her just now. "hi, i'm momo! you're very cute and sweet. i'm sorry things ended up like this." but at the same time, she's glad that someone reliable like genny is here. surely a pokemon ranger knew what to do in a situation like this! but just in case, momo had to ask: "so what's gonna happen now?" [break][break]

vegetables? that had certainly been a difficult one... and no taro, too. but that's alright, because momo decides then and there that she'll go for an orange vegetable! "rose, what do you think? carrot or pumpkin?" [break][break]

her shiny polteageist hovers near, rubbing its spectral chin with tiny hands as it considers the choice between two delicious veggies. ultimately, it points at the round gourd, and momo giggles at its choice. "nice! let's go with this one, then!" and her pokemon uses shell smash on one of the smaller pumpkins to break the gourd open. meanwhile, momo measures the proper ingredients, a chilled bowl of activated bubbles for the bubble tea sitting on the counter.[break][break]

throughout the contest, momo has been able to see some familiar faces, and uses this time between cooking and mixing to acknowledge them. she returns asher baran's thumbsup with one of her own, and grins at big sis genny despite the latter's rather... interesting concoction. nevertheless, momo's support for others and herself remains strong, and when it's her turn to showcase the bubble tea creation, she smiles wide. "hi there! for this round's theme, i'm going to use pumpkin as the main ingredient! my plan here is to use cream and sugar to offset the pumpkin's natural flavor, and make something like a pumpkin pie bubble tea drink! we'll use regular milk-tea as the base, with loooots of whipped cream and graham cracker crumbles, too!" to momo, the drink sounds delicious, but it had all been up to the judges' opinions. so far, it seems that the coordinator's tastes run a little too sweet for their tastes, but hopes that the classic flavor of pumpkin pie (with an emphasis on the pumpkin, of course) will win them over this time! solo wild: dark / normal

today had been a special outing. momo spends time both walking through the route outside of fortree city, as well as being held in eileen's arms, the pangoro so strong and affectionate towards momo that she carries her whenever she can. and momo doesn't mind, since riding on its shoulders or being carried in its arms feels so safe and fun all the while! so while eileen carries momo around, sun and charles are busy keeping any threats at bay, while also making sure that potential catches for momo are kept in their sights. the coordinator grins brightly at the sight of her pokemon getting along. that's what it's all about, baby! [break][break]
