genny's steady hand and unwavering figure are what momo uses to ground herself. she latches on behind the other, a gentle hand pressed into the material of her clothing, small fingers knotted up against red. momo holds her breath, but releases it when the mysterious presence makes itself known. [break][break]

a large ring materializes in the air. emerging from its center is a small wave of water, and though momo can't see it, there's an undeniable weight and shape traveling through the water, a confused cry echoing throughout the alleyway. it sounds vaguely familiar (having an eevolution of her own has familiarized momo somewhat with sylveon's equally cute cousins), so the young coordinator blinks slowly, fear lessening bit-by-bit. [break][break]

but she still doesn't trust that the danger has completely passed. even when the invisible force reveals itself to be a vaporeon, momo keeps her guard up. though maybe it's just as big sis genny had said: the water eevolution looks surprised to be here, too. perhaps another force teleported here against its will? "okay," momo says as she nods along to genny's plan. regardless of the circumstances as to how it got here, it's up to genny and momo to make sure no harm comes to anyone else as a result. [break][break]

"chica, be gentle. don't get too close in case your grass-typing scares the vaporeon," momo advises her pokemon. the little chikorita nods slowly, and the two of them look to genny and blue. "i'll follow your lead, big sis genny!"[break][break]

when the shadow ball made contact with josh and his pokemon, momo yelped. thankfully, the strange pokemon had absorbed most of the attack, but some lingering ghostly power struck at josh, and momo turned her eyes, not wanting to see him get hurt. [break][break]

then his pokemon rushed at the hypno, and it left a beautiful opening for momo's pokemon, in turn. "silver, c'mon! let's use x-scissor on that hypno!" silver the grovyle nodded once, and doubled down on the hypno with its sharp leaves, bright green energy gathering at the razor's edge. [break][break]

the hypno stumbled, and momo held her breath. it seemed like the wild pokemon would get back up soon, but silver's attack stung, the bug-energy-imbued leaves digging into the hypno's skin, latching on before leaving it—making it a critical hit. [break][break]

"oh, i don't think it'll get up anytime soon. did we do it? maybe the other pokemon are nearby somewhere!" [break][break]

it would be so easy to scream. if one thought leads to another, momo could find herself lost in the panic in between, and she'd sooner run out of her own house than potentially face whatever dangers lie upstairs. [break][break]

(realistically, if shigure hadn't been here, momo's pokemon would have offered to investigate the source themselves, especially silver the grovyle. and she believes in her pokemon's ability to defend themselves and her, but she just can't stomach the thought of them facing a threat that could possibly be stronger. scarier. more violent. so she throws away these what-ifs before they start making her sadder than she wants to admit.) [break][break]

no, instead, shigure is the calm to her impending storm, and she finds herself nodding along to his suggestions of staying down here while he deals with the intruder, instead—his gentle touch the anchor that grounds her, a slight smile appearing on her face despite everything. "if you're sure...i know i'm not the fighting type but don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it..." her words taper off near the end, fear swallowing the shape of her words, bite marks like hesitation marking her voice. she knows she has no business worrying over him like this, not when he's proven himself the capable one since their childhood, the one who will face the uncertainties that momo would rather turn her back against. [break][break]

"candles?" their inquiry catches her off guard, the fear in her limbs stalling, her eyes wide with surprise. "uh, yeah, i do, actually. that's a really good point! wouldn't want to be stuck in the darkness on top of everything, hehe." she reaches down and hugs shigure's pancham, smiling at the way it's so brave despite everything, and willing to stay with her even though it'd rather fight something instead. "they're in one of the kitchen cabinets! lemme get some for us." it takes no time at all, and while shigure is headed towards the stairs, momo grabs a collection of vanilla and peach-scented candles from one of the cabinets. [break][break]

they're definitely part of a collection of nice-smelling candles from a baths and scents store, now housed in a spare cabinet after the coordinator has bought too much in excess. but maybe they'll be useful today, in case her power really does go out! (or if shigure needs to do an exorcism, not that that thought will ever occur to momo in a thousand million years. and then some.)[break][break]

momo nods, her smile brightening. "got it! you lead, i follow!" she's always wondered what the difference between a classically trained dancer and a self-taught one is, and her curiosity is sated in a matter of seconds. maki's form is as flawless as she is, flexible and agile to a fault. momo spends as much time ogling the other girl's ability as much as she spends stretching her own limbs, a slow and hesitant doppleganger. [break][break]

thankfully, momo is pretty flexible and light on her feet, herself! nothing like maki, but certainly a lot better than the average person. her body feels warm and loose afterward, which is a good sign. she bounces on her feet after stretching, letting out a huge sigh. "that feels great! perfect way to start us off!" [break][break]

and maki seems to agree, and she starts talking about the potential dances they'll learn today. dances for two people (and possibly a person and their pokemon) interest momo the most. she loves to entertain the crowd as much as her pokemon do, and a two-person dance would be the perfect chance to get more involved in the performance, too! but basic ballet moves is a good place to start—momo wouldn't even know where to begin! "i'm fine starting off with the basic ballet moves if that's okay!" [break][break]

she nodded. "a sylveon! i guess you could say fairy-types are my specialty, but i like all cute pokemon equally!" [break][break] she had also gotten into battling and catching pokemon as of late, little things she could do on the side to train her friends in between participating in contests. today's fight against the tinkatons was one such distraction, but she was grateful for them because it let her meet such nice people like roy! [break][break]

"aw, thank you so much!" pinkness flooded her cheeks, emboldened and encouraged by roy's matching energy. it was one thing to talk about the prospects of the future, but another to promise it. and rustboro was a nice town, it would be nice to come back here for a contest or two in the future, not to mention actually having someone in the crowd that would be cheering her on. [break][break]

because for all of momo's kindness and sweet mannerisms, she didn't have many supporters yet, and while she managed to make some friends in the region, many of them had their own business to worry about—fate the only force that could bring such wayward souls together. [break][break]

the sound of roaring charizard and retreating tinkaton echoed around them, a sudden spike in volume that caused momo to jump in her skin. thankfully, she'd seen him take out his phone, and smiled because she wanted to exchange contact information, too! she pulled out her rotomphone, and waved it in her hand enthusiastically. "hehe, let's exchange numbers! then the next time i'm in rustboro or wherever, i can invite you to one of the contests!"

words could not express how grateful momo sakai was that kouma the shopkeep didn't take what she said to heart. his laugh and his earnest words melted her heart, and she felt it in herself to smile again despite her slight blunder just before. "heehee, thank you for understanding...i haven't been lost in thought like this in a while." which was true to an extent, but momo was far from being the most grounded person there ever was. [break][break]

"i guess that's true enough, huh?" mourning was as much a part of life as it was death. perhaps life, moreso, since it was the living who carried on the memories and practices. "oh, um..." she hadn't always been the most honest about where she came from, but in these small walls, she felt like she could tell kouma almost anything. "actually, i'm from kanto, myself. never really did these things outside of my home region, though. i feel like it's been so long..." [break][break]

that said, she didn't want to spill everything to kouma, even though he had that inviting nature that made her feel like she could talk about anything and he'd listen. maybe. "but i have been missing my grandparents as of late. i'll take everything that i need for the tradition." and she had more than enough money to pay for it, too! [break][break]
