momo watched as ashley rounded up her pokemon, and even climbed onto eleanor the gengar's back, her tiny body making the gengar seem that much bigger in comparison. it was cute to see her so energetic, and momo found herself smiling, in turn—happy to be traveling with someone so sweet and spirited! [break][break]

they began venturing deeper into mt. pyre. momo continued to make the trek on foot, though komorebi the altaria was on standby, fluttering around in case she was needed as a ride pokemon for momo to scale the higher heights. but for now, she was fine walking alongside ashley, and even turned her head in the direction of the low, hollow bell ringing, deep and resonant as though it wasn't just any bronzong, but a heavy metal one, too. [break][break]

with wide eyes, momo looked at ashley, and broke into a huge grin when she saw that the younger girl was enjoying herself. "that was a loud gong! hehe, looks like the pokemon are feeling festive, too!" rose the shiny polteageist hovered nearby, as well, talking back-and-forth between ghosts and its trainer. [break][break]

however, everything came into a standstill when a wild pokemon stumbled onto the path. momo blinked, but recognized this pokemon, and didn't even need her rotomphone to double-check, either! "oh, that's a gothorita!" she explained, "how cute! i love how it's wearing ribbons!" momo placed her hands on her hips, and nodded once. "i'm gonna catch it!" [break][break]

the coordinator called upon her dedenne, and said: "jiri, use nuzzle!" the electric mouse pokemon squeaked, and ran at the gothorita excitedly. then it smushed its cheek against hers, smiling and cooing as the psychic-type pokemon groaned. however, it wasn't just for show—the electricity from dedenne's cheeks paralyzed the gothorita, and when it seemed like the ribbon pokemon couldn't move, momo threw a poke ball at it, smiling as it was captured in just a few shakes. jiri the dedenne picked up the poke ball with its mouth, and returned it to its trainer. [break][break]

momo scooped up the new capture, and placed the capsule in her bag. "gotcha! okay, let's keep going. hopefully we can find some ghost-types, too!"[break][break]

she hadn't expected the girl to be the one to make the gengar noises. but the more ashley spoke, the more momo realized that this was how she communicated with other people. momo was grateful that, now more than ever, she had a ghost-type pokemon friend that could help with the translations. [break][break]

the coordinator and her polteageist had to share a few trial and errors before the translation went through. from the gist of things, momo learned this girl's name was ashley, and that she was looking to catch some more ghost-type pokemon. the pink-haired girl could guess as much from all the ghost-types hanging around ashley, but it was still sweet that she extended the invitation to momo, anyway! [break][break]

"oh, i'd love to go ghost-hunting with you! and in mt. pyre, there's gotta be ghosts for miles!" momo was unaware of the shedinja and brambleghast passing by them, but it was fine. there'd be more ghosties to find along the way! maybe there'd even be another gengar, or something else that could mega evolve! [break][break]

she finished introducing her pokemon, as well, and started walking alongside ashley. "i'm excited to see what we find out here!" [break][break]

morning grace [momo]

ever since maki and momo agreed to meet up and practice dancing together, momo has been buzzing with anticipation. it's not everyday that she gets to share the joys of the contest world with another person, much less work together to hone her coordinator skills, either! when it comes to dancing, while momo enjoys the motions and coming up with ideas for themes and concepts, she does struggle a bit with expanding on her already-existing knowledge. and that's where maki will come to play, because on top of being beautiful the yukimura girl is smart as a pin, and momo thinks she can learn a lot from her! [break][break]

(and possibly about her—she still hasn't asked if the yukimura surname is the same one that momo is thinking of. but if that doesn't happen today, either, then it's just as well. there's a saying that the circumstances of one's birth is irrelevant, and it's what you choose to do with the gift of life that makes you who are. or something like that, anyway!) [break][break]

soon enough, momo shows up to the meeting place: a public dance studio, one of many such artistic buildings to be found in the city of lilycove. it's no wonder that the coordinator has chosen this city to be her hoenn home, the super contest hall and amenities aside. she's become familiar with the streets of lilycove like the back of her hand, so it feels like no time at all has passed when she finally catches up with maki! "hi, maki! how are you? you look great, by the way! i'm sooo excited for today! thanks for agreeing to help me out with my dances, too! you're the best!" [break][break]

she's just glad that she's met someone who will stay in her life, no matter how temporary. and to carve out time for momo in what she can only assume is a very busy schedule on maki's end? that's more than momo could ever ask for. [break][break] she sets down a pink duffel bag, and fixes her hair into a low ponytail—stripped of the usual glitz and glam that her coordinator self is usually seen in. but no matter the occasion, she will never skip out on the pink. "so what's first? oh, we should probably stretch, right?" [break][break]

momo had come to mt. pyre for one reason, and one reason alone. [break][break]

(this place, oddly enough, felt close to home.) [break][break]

"huu..." rose the shiny polteageist mumbled in a nostalgic but reverent tone of voice. being in a place surrounded by fellow ghost-type pokemon must have it reminiscing on old times, and momo simply smiled at her partner with a nod. "i know, this takes me back, too. this place and the pokemon tower in lavender town are really similar, don't you think?" [break][break]

and rose wasn't the only pokemon that momo had out now. aimi the tinkaton, silque the sylveon, jiri the dedenne, and komorebi the altaria were also free of their poke balls, wandering alongside momo as they trekked through mt. pyre together. the only pokemon that wasn't out was anahita the primarina, but that was because momo didn't want it to feel too strange outside of water. still, she had the water-type's poke ball handy in case she needed more raw pokemon power, but with a party this big, she didn't feel like she'd have to! [break][break]

"gengar!" a voice shouted, startling momo and sending her pokemon on high alert. while her companions turned their heads in every direction to find the source of the noise, momo spotted a gengar not too far ahead, and a young girl with it. rose the shiny polteageist squeaked happily, and floated slowly in their direction. "wait up, rose!" momo urged the rest of her pokemon to follow after the polteageist, and soon enough, the coordinator found herself face-to-face with a girl she'd never seen before. [break][break]

momo said, "oh, was that your gengar just now? i thought someone needed help or something, teehee. and my polteageist seemed excited to meet more ghosts!" rose started spinning around, introducing itself to the other ghost-type pokemon that this other girl had. "i'm momo, by the way! are you looking for ghosts? you seem to have a lot of ghost-type pokemon, hehe!" [break][break]

SOLO WILD: NORMAL / FAIRY / GHOST

"well, we had some cute visitors during our tea party, didn't we?" momo regales the evening spent with her tea party pokemon, smiling at rose and lycoris. "looks like our search for a new friend is coming up empty, though. still, not a bad night, all things considered!" [break][break]

la... a quiet voice sings out, and momo tilts her head at her shiny polteageist. "did you say something, rose?" and the pokemon only shook its head in reply. huh. [break][break]

la, la, la~ the voice continues to sing, and momo looks at lycoris, but the florges shakes her head already, as though to answer the unsaid question. "that wasn't you? then who's singing right now?" [break][break]

eventually, the coordinator follows the sound of beautiful singing all the way to the edge of mauville hills, where a beautiful inlet of water shines gold and violet under the setting sun. there, laying across the rocks, is a long and beautiful primarina, singing over the waves. her voice is melodic and haunting, and momo finds herself enraptured by the tune, but shy as she hides behind a large piece of driftwood, crouched behind its soggy weight. [break][break]

the primarina notices her, however. it stops in the midst of its beautiful aria, and swims towards the shore, where momo gently approaches it, as well. "hi," she starts to say, "i really liked your singing." [break][break]

"la la la?" primarina's voice is a mixture of pokemon cries and operatic singing, so wonderfully disjointed but harmonious at the same time. momo tilts her head. "huh? i don't know what you mean, but..." and just then, her polteageist and florges float beside her, both of them singing in their little voices. momo gasps, and glances back at the primarina in sheer disbelief. "do you...want me to sing, too?" [break][break]

"laaaa! la dee dum!" [break][break]

momo giggles, her cheeks blooming in bright pink. "i actually really like to sing! sometimes, we sing in contests, too. it's so fun! you want to hear me sing that badly?" the primarina simply nods, and momo exhales quietly. "okay, here goes nothing..." [break][break]

she starts singing a song she knows well, loudly and passionately like no one else in the world is listening to her except for that primarina—that not even her own pokemon matter in this moment, in this beautiful aria of the oceans, so bright and wondrous that the falling night still burns brightly around momo... [break][break]

and so ends the story of how she met anahita the primarina, a wild pokemon who quickly became one of momo's best friends in the world. [break][break]

shortly after the rufflet's departure, a metallic jangling noise draws momo's attention. she glances past lycoris' tall body frame, and sees something small floating their way. [break][break]

"hello, klefki!" momo takes one of the rage candy bars from the basket, and offers it to the key pokemon. "something for your travels?" [break][break]

the klefki shakes in a happy, rhythmic manner, taking the snack from momo with ease. rose and lycoris chatter amiably with the wild pokemon, having an excited conversation that eventually ends with the klefki leaving the tea party, floating to who knows where. [break][break]

his comments about her pinkness didn't go unnoticed, and despite the deadpan humor behind these words, momo laughed—goodnatured, as always—while swaying a bit. "hehe, thanks!" she was naturally blessed with such a cute and colorful appearance, but it took more than just natural looks to win contests. she hoped to keep rising in the contest world, even though she was admittedly a bit more slow to participate in the actual competitions these days. all she could really do was take it one step at a time, like everyone else! [break][break]

"wow, then maybe getting there won't be so tough, after all." she was definitely a city girl by all means, but momo grew up in a picturesque little town in kanto, so she also appreciated nature in all its glory. it'd be a big effort for her to bring everyone out in the wild, however. certainly a goal worth saving for, however! [break][break]

then riley's umbreon put on a powerful show, attacking the drednaw and warding it off in a single blow. momo thought it was kind of cute how gung-ho the umbreon was, even if it didn't leave a lot of room for the while drednaw to be captured. silque was equally as generous, and jumped up and down as if to say it's okay, i still thought you were pretty cool! [break][break]

momo was about to speak up, when riley had beat her to the punch, and gave her a polaroid of her and silque. her initial thoughts died on her tongue, every thought replaced by sheer gratitude for the sweet gesture, a beautiful shot of her and her pokemon in action, the colors vibrant and the angle inviting. momo slowly took the polaroid from riley, in complete and utter awe as stars and hearts practically danced around her just then! wow!! [break][break]

"oh, riley, thank you so much! this is a really great shot!" she'd treasure this forever, quite possibly. the thought that someone could find inspiration in her and her pokemon... it's all she ever wanted. and maybe it's a little more emotion than she should be showing right now, but she can't help it: unshed tears covered her eyes with a wet sheen, a proud smile glittering with all the determination and hope found in the palms of her hands—bright and unwavering. "i'll take really good care of this photo! it's so lovely!" [break][break]

suddenly, silque the sylveon called out to her trainer, drawing momo's attention with a high-pitched squeak. up ahead, some more pokemon were arriving in the grove. something large and soft roosted on top of one of the fruit trees, and momo had an idea. "hehe, let's catch one more pokemon today and call it even!" she gently put the polaroid away (it will definitely go into one of her journals later on, though), and brought out a spare poke ball, instead. then, with two hands, a squeak, and her eyes screwed shut, momo tossed the ball into the air, cheering when it made contact with whatever pokemon nested in the tree—cheering even louder when the catch was somehow successful despite that! silque did its usual routine of retrieving the poke ball for its owner, too. [break][break]

"wow, catching pokemon is so rewarding! but it's real hard work too!" she placed the new capture in her bag, instead pulling out a large pink food container filled with cut-up fruits. "i have some snacks and i brought a picnic blanket, too! let's take a break!" [break][break]

she was glad that he didn't ask further about her home. did he sense the inner sadness, staining the edges of momo's rosy world in shades of blue and grey? or did he just know the same way everyone knew, about schemes greater than the two of them, about forces stronger their pokemon and the people around them? [break][break]

regardless, momo appreciated the interest in her coordinator endeavors. her eyes lit up, and her grin matched his in pure joy and excitement. "you've got that right! aimi doesn't make it easy, but she's very spirited, at least! though when i'm in contests, i will say that my sylveon, silque, is a lot more graceful." but she loved all of her pokemon equally, still! even if it was clear that aimi was more suited to breaking things and stealing than she was at performing in front of a crowd. [break][break]

speaking of which... "i perform anywhere i can! though the major contest halls are in slateport and lilycove, i've also been to competitions in petalburg, rustboro, and mauville, too!" the bigger cities have a better chance of hosting something that grandiose, but there's opportunity everywhere in hoenn. momo looks for it whenever she can. "you should come by and see one sometime! oh, i mean, um, if you really wanted to, that is!" [break][break]

seeing weezer return to its trainer made momo's confidence rise. she was relieved that it hadn't been too hurt, though, because the last thing she wanted to do was seriously injure anyone. but she didn't have time to ruminate for long, because moss' tort unleashed a powerful giga drain attack which—together with the leech seed's sapping—made it very difficult for mochi to stay upright. the azurill began bouncing haphazardly, groaning slightly as exhaustion set in its soft little body. [break][break]

"come back, mochi! that's enough!" momo opened her arms wide, and accepted an energy-drained mochi back into her embrace. "oh, you did well! let's try again next time, too." she could feel this little baby growing up bit by bit. one day, it might even become a sweet marill! but until then, momo wouldn't put it through too much strain. [break][break]

all that left was grovyle vs. grotle, a classic match-up of grass-type starter pokemon! momo nodded at silver, who only glanced at his trainer behind his shoulder with a confident gleam in his eyes. then the wood gecko pokemon turned to its opponent, eyes narrowing to focus. "i know, right? who knew battling would be super fun like this!" she wasn't a full-fledged trainer, either, but she might just start battling more if the feeling was always this exciting. "okay, i'm giving it all i got! silver, let's use night slash this time!" [break][break]

the leaves on silver's forearms began to glow with black energy, then sharpened to razor points at the end. with a full-frontal dash, silver the grovyle lunged forward, and raked his arms across tort's wide body. one thing that the grotle had an advantage over the grovyle with was its defense, while this grovyle clearly favored speed. which strength would win out in the end? momo held her breath all the while. whoa, an ultra beast! momo had heard of these types of pokemon before, but she never thought in a million years that she'd get to see one in the flesh! and shalin had been right on the money with her guesses — momo had been wondering how a bipedal creature like nymris the pheremosa would get around, much less act as a ride pokemon under a rider's experienced touch. [break][break]

yet just as shalin had demonstrated the pheremosa's ability to take her places, the kantonian persian beside momo had purred with a gentle reminder, making sure the girl was paying attention. "wow, your pokemon are so impressive, shalin!" it wasn't an experience that she could easily get used to, but that's what parties were for. there was no better place to be rowdy and courageous than in an outdoor party, dozens of people merrymaking so much that they hardly noticed what was going on around them. [break][break]

it was that kind of bravery that let momo mount the persian, her legs clutching onto the sides of the persian for dear life. not to mention the reins that rested in the palms of momo's hands, her body glitter from the ribombee costume starting to stick to the leather of the rein. she exhaled slowly, and nodded along. "alright, i'll do my best to remember that!" she looked into the horizon, and noticed a very large tree in the distance. "let's run to that tree for starters!" she held onto serena's reins, her hands shaking. "here goes nothing!" [break][break]

then she shot forward on the persian, the speed and direction a little wild at first (because momo forgot to pull and squeeze when it mattered, taking her some time to learn how to control the rein even a little bit. when she finally got the hang of it, serena the persian pulled into a faster speed, probably to show off to her trainer and no one else. but as momo glanced over her shoulder, she saw the most incredible (but also ridiculous) sight in the world: shalin nariya, seated on the pheremosa's wing, catching up to the quadruped persian in no time at all, the pheremosa moving at alarming speeds. [break][break]

"whoa!" momo said aloud. "this is so cool!" [break][break]

lilycove's famous department store is known for being the picture of fashion, commercialism, but most importantly, grace. [break][break]

now here comes momo, entering through the automatic doors, only to step into a world filled with metal and despair. screams and gears. appliances and trainers and pokemon, all duking it out for a chance at normalcy. while some people look earnest in their attempt to fix the chaos, others are taking advantage, capturing wild rotoms or better yet — absconding with a brand new TV, microwave, or blender in tow. [break][break]

it's sheer madness and momo feels she has no better choice than to help stop it. she brings out two of her pokemon, rose the shiny polteageist & aimi the tinkaton, in an attempt to ward off some of the rampaging rotoms. "hey, you rotom, you put that down, that's a real yukimura computer! wait, no, rose, watch out! those viking ovens are impossible to destroy, i know because i've tried! and aimi, don't you dare try to sneak that ninja bullet food processor into your bag! i can see you!" [break][break]

she certainly has her work cut out for her. [break][break]

"oh, someone's come to join us?" momo leans over to get a better look, and smiles softly at the sight of the wild rufflet. "hello, friend! want some cookies?" she offers the sweet snack to the little bird pokemon, giggling when it takes from her hand like it's no problem at all. [break][break]
rose and lycoris seem intrigued, sharing looks that meant are we bringing her home with us? momo laughs softly and shakes her head, disappointing her teatime companions. "don't worry, i'm sure we'll get more visitors. besides, a little rufflet like this would much prefer the wild, anyway! i'm sure of it!" and as if to prove her point, the rufflet leaves shortly after devouring its share of snacks, taking flight and disappearing on a gale of wind. there are many different places to have a tea party, but perhaps smack-dab in the middle of mauville hills isn't the best option. or the safest. [break][break]

but if momo looks a little vulnerable sitting at a table with a long white tablecloth, a cherry blossom themed teaset, and a basket of cookies and candies on the side, then so be it. this is all part of her perfect plan to draw in some cute or elegant pokemon, with the hopes that they will be drawn to something they like: tea parties! [break][break]

it's also why she's decided to wear such a cute little outfit, and why she's brought two of her most tea-loving pokemon: rose the shiny polteageist, and lycoris the red-flower florges. both are sociable and pretty to a fault, and neither can resist a good excuse to sip tea and chat about nothing. not to mention that in a pinch, both of them are capable fighters, as well. [break][break]

momo pours more tea for herself and lycoris, neither of them very fond of the way rose's "fresh" tea tastes. the girl winks at her pokemon, laughing. "enjoying yourself, lycoris?" the florges sings in response, delicately lifting the teacup to her lips, smiling beyond the brim. "hehe, of course you are! and rose, i hope you like these treats, i bought them just for you!" she shows off some of the candies to the shiny polteageist, with a good amount of them dedicated to the classic butterscotch hard candy that it's learned to like. rose chirps happily, and momo laughs in turn. what a beautiful outing this has turned out to be! [break][break]

and from the corner of her eyes, momo spots a curious pokemon approaching the tea table. looks like the plan is already starting to work! [break][break]
