Noivern paused, unsure how to exactly handle this situation. Was this a lie? The boy didn't speak with the energy of someone who mastered the art of deception, but she couldn't take that risk.

The dragon prepared itself to eliminate the strange pursuer, but was halted by Anahel's mental voice. "Wait." The girl was concerned about bringing more attention to the truck.

They weren't immediately attacking, so it was better get to a more advantageous position before confronting them.

The girl was filled in on the situation, before giving orders to the Noivern.

"Follow us. We'll stop just outside the city," the pokèmon repeated to the boy, before flying off back towards the truck.

It was then when a strong thump was felt from the back of the vehicle. Was it the cargo?

Cursing to herself, Ana processed the dilemma she was in.

She should have enough time to take care of all this before the pick-up crew arrived, but it was going to be tricky.

Ever since their first meeting, Anahel and Zev have kept close contact.[break][break]
Their relationship was technically professional, but the personal nature of it made feel more intimate. The girl started to feel the man cared for her, but was still unsure if it solely stemmed from her willingness to follow any order given, or if he had genuine interest in her progression. If it was the latter, it would be first man in the young woman's life to take such an interest in her.[break][break]
She received a message to meet in Slateport City. Anahel wore a black hoodie and shorts, nothing near the elegance of Zev's suit.[break][break]
Approaching the marked building, the girl could not ignore the cold tension that radiated from it. This was going to be much different than her previous tasks.[break][break]
Entering, Anahel saw Zev waiting for her in the lobby area.[break][break]
"Mr. Harcourt," she said in a tone that mimicked the atmosphere.[break][break]
Though her hood partially covered her face, Zev of all people could easily identify the girl from the voice and stature alone.

Anahel noticed the boy next to her, but was too entranced by the howls of the past to give him much thought.[break][break]

The sound of waves, crashing inches below the memorial, filled the silence left between the two. This ambiance continued for several seconds.[break][break]

She heard his question, but felt no desire to answer it. Instead, she proposed a question of her own.[break][break]

"Are you satisfied with the way things are?"[break][break]

The intent behind the question was masked by the open ended nature of it–however, the solemn tone given would make the girl's own answer obvious.[break][break]

The boy might wonder if her words were rhetorical, but Ana turned her head.[break][break]

Revealing the dark blue abyss that was her eyes, she asserted her attention to him. Waiting for what he might just say.

There was visible improvement in Anahel's aim after she took notice of Zev's technique. The results still paled in comparison to his, but it was a step in the right direction.[break][break]
While the girl changed the magazines out in the gun, Zev inquired on Ana's civilian cover.[break][break]
Aiming down for the last target of the day, she replied, "A student." Following the steps from before, she took her first shot. "I enrolled last week."[break][break]
Another clean hole through the heart.[break][break]
"It's only natural that a girl my age would be pursuing higher education," she said before exhaling and pulling the trigger again.[break][break]
Finishing the last of the ammunition, she returned the gun to its holster and turned to Zev.[break][break]
"I appreciate your help today..." The girl was unsure how to finish the sentence. "How should I refer to you?"

Anahel raised an eyebrow at Elijah's rebuttal. Was he really that upset over such a comment?[break][break]
"I'd imagine high rank members would take their job seriously," she said continuing towards the direction Parasect pointed. "Or judging by those wrinkles, are you looking towards retirement?"[break][break]
The girl was already not the biggest fan of the man. His sour attitude brought a side out of her that she has yet to show amongst her colleagues in Rocket. She better tone it back or she was going to get it back at HQ.[break][break]

The sun casted an orange glow over the city as it made its decent into the horizon. Anahel wore a white dress and sandals, looking like any other local walking along the sea line.[break][break]

At the top of a hill was a cenotaph, a memorial for those lost during the tragedies of the Ultra Beast invasions.[break][break]

Ana followed the path upward. The surrounding landscape was all too familiar. Memories of the past flooded back into her mind. Her destroyed home, the remains of her loved ones, the feeling of being alone.[break][break]
The girl promised herself she would never cry again, but all she could do was tremble over the weight of her emotions as she made her way up.[break][break]
Finally at the top, Ana approached the memorial. It sat on the last bit of land before the open sea. Flowers grew from the grass surrounding it.[break][break]
She continued to reflect on what she had lost. What she felt seeing her life reduced to nothing but rubble.[break][break]
"As it is now, this world is too cruel," she said softly to herself, reading the text carved into the stone.

After hearing Zev's words, his eyes made a little more sense to the girl.

His cold demeanor wasn't just due to his work as an assassin. He too was a victim of this world. [break][break]
Realizing this made Anahel feel a little closer to the man. The blue abyss called for her. She wanted to know what laid behind that look, that stare he can not help but make. [break][break]

Taking the gun, she thought on his answer. It was impossible to not compare them to her reasons for joining. [break][break]Ana's head shifted downward, as she relived the pain of the past.[break][break]

"It would be too easy for me to blame the League," she said copying Zev's stance from before. Aiming, inhaling, gently moving her finger to the trigger. She thought back to every detail of his technique.[break][break]

Exhaling, she took her first clean shot at the target.[break][break]

"The world is what stole everything from me." Anahel aimed down again, repeating the steps from before. "And no matter how far I fall, I will do what needs to be done to change it."

With the last box loaded it was time for Ana to head out. Turning the key, the truck made loud rumble before turning onto the steet.

It was a straight drive to the drop off location, just outside the city. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes to arrive there.

Checking her watch it seemed she would end up being a bit early, but she had no problem with waiting for the pick up crew to arrive.

"Hm?" Looking at her side mirror, there would appear to be a pokèmon following the truck from above. She took a sharp right turn to see if the large bird would stay going forward, but no luck. They continued to trail behind the vehicle.

Was this delivery was leaked? The chances were slim. This shipment was planned last minute, due to rare merchandise making its way into Rocket's possession. Either way, the girl was going to have to handle this one way or another.

"Noivern," she said releasing the pokèmon from the driver side window. "Take care of them."

The dragon flew towards Moss and his Alataria before blocking them with its body.

"Who are you?" Noivern communicated to Moss using her Telepathy ability. "What business do you have following us?"
