What's his endgame? Sid has to float the question to herself the longer they remain there. Though her heart's still thudding from the adrenaline, she's already started to let the mischievous gengar slip out of her thoughts. Out of sight, out of mind.[break][break]
"Awfully confident in yourself," she teases, smile bordering on a smirk as she feels his knuckles trail against her face.[break][break]
"Oh, no?" she asks then, eyebrows raising at the bold insinuation. Her own voice slides toward playful teasing. "I'd say you've been missing out then."[break][break]
She peers at him in the gloom. Silently daring.

“Mm, just a bit,” she agrees. “But that’s the sort of thing that makes life fun.” Where was the thrill in staying safe all the time?[break][break]
Her brows lift at the question, but before she answers Sid tips back her glass and downs the last of her drink in one go. The tumbler thunks against the bartop. “Yeah, sure I’ll dance with you.” Her hand finds his again and this time she tugs him in the direction of the dancefloor.

While James steps around the trapinch, Sid stoops down to smooth a hand over its round head. “It was kinda cute, actually.” She looks up at him with another grin, this one smaller than before. Almost sheepish.[break][break]

Tapping the trapinch with a pokeball, she tests to see if it will accept her.[break][break]
“Glad to hear it,” she snorts, pulling herself back up. She sucks in a breath and exhales. “Well I’m an open book.” Mostly. “Whatcha wanna know about me, Jamie?”

A brow lifts as Mila deflects the question. Sid isn’t sure if she’s trying to piss her off, or keep her from pressing with more questions. But Sidney doesn’t rise to the bait of pushing her luck. She shrugs, unbothered, and continues drifting toward the wreckage. “Suit yourself, Mila. Don’t tell me, then.”[break][break]
It isn’t any skin off her back.[break][break]
But of course Mila follows. Sid doesn’t expect any different, really. Not that it’s a knock –just what she’s come to expect from the other woman.[break][break]
“Huh?” she’s pulled from her fixation on the old ship. If there’s anything she’s learned in her line of work, it’s that it’s always better to avoid the main entrance. She floats away from the gaping hole in the prow to find another way in.[break][break]
Mischievous eyes turn back on her impromptu companion. “I told you, I’m here for work. Kalos got boring.” Shit’s wild here in Hoenn–or so she’s been told.

She's not sure what he'll do next, and it's not exactly like she can really read his expression. Not in the dark like this. If only she knew where her phone had fallen to. Then at least they'd be able to see better.[break][break]
Feeling him move forward, Sidney inches along with him, not relinquishing her hold on him.[break][break]
At least, until the face appears. When he startles at the gengar, so does she - letting out a shriek of sound as delighted, echoing cackle follows.[break][break]
And then she's tipping backward, knocked down along with him as he trips. Eyes screwed shut as she waits for the rough landing.

The reference earns her a laugh - she's pleased enough with that reaction alone. "Oh good, you got it. A man of taste, then." Her tongue pokes out at him.[break][break]

Sidney's head tilts at him, though, as he echoes her word choice. She continues right on anyway, and only looks back over her shoulder at him after a quiet pause. "Mmm, well yeah," she answers, not unkindly, with a short lift to her shoulders.[break][break]
"Suppose I thought I scared you off." Her eyebrows wiggle as she laughs.[break][break]
His forwardness now is much more unexpected. "A second chance for lil ol' me?" she continues to joke before her tone softens. Only a smidge. "I'm glad you did too. You made an impression."[break][break]
Not the impression she'd been hoping for at the time, but an impression all the same.

The swinub that roots nearby is left alone. Her hisuian zorua only peers shyly around Sid’s ankles. Droopy eyes watch James with the magneton.[break][break]
Sidney, however, laughs. Her arms fold as she looks up at him, “Ready as I’ll ever be.” The added afterthought provokes another laugh, “Think you got that a little rearranged.”[break][break]
But the smirky grin that remains gives away the fact that she’s not all that put out by it. And she shakes her head. “Same, though. Though I gotta say I was surprised to hear from ya.”[break][break]
She moves ahead, brushing past him. Her fingers curl in his jacket to give him a loose, playful tug along.

Having popped out of the pouch, it stares at her, and she stares back. Wide eyes blink as her head tilts. A coo rises in the back of her throat. “Oh. Nice little sa—“[break][break]
And then the fuckin’ thing begins to shriek.[break][break]
Her hands fall away from her task to slap over her ears. “No, no. Don’t cry, sandshrew. Don’t do that.”[break][break]
The half-hearted effort does little to quell its cries, though, and it continues to wail. Her girafarig’s head bows in irritation, but soon she nudges her snout against Sidney’s pocket—against the other pokeball nested there.[break][break]
“You’re my better half, Tipper,” she grumbles, reluctantly releasing one ear so that she can fish out the pokeball so that her meowth pops free. “Shut it up, Morrissey.” Her hand slaps back over her ears.[break][break]
The feline scrambles up onto the seat of the bike, and is immediately inclined to SCREECH back at the noisy sandshrew. Maybe they should’ve just cut their losses, but Sidney only look back over her shoulder for any attention that might’ve been drawn as the meowth stares intently at the other pokemon, attempting to lull it to sleep with HYPNOTIC eyes as the coin on his head gleams.

The flashlight on her phone must’ve switched off when it spun out of her hand, because soon they’re pitched in total dark. But Sidney isn’t buying it this time.[break][beak]
“Okay, okay. You got me the first time. I'll give ya that,” she says dryly, the hand still fisted in his shirt shaking him a little as she plays up her disbelief.[break][break]
“You’re not gonna pull a fast one on me again. Open the door back up.”
