Heterochromatic eyes roll upward. “What a fucking treat.” Ezra manages to barely stifle a laugh at the insinuations. “Can’t remember the last time I had an itch down there.” That was because it’d be never. For all his flirting and whoring, the musician was surprisingly safe about it. No rubbers meant sundown at the whore corral.

The other man’s judgment is met with an upward roll of the eyes. “I don’t like fur in my drink.” He doesn’t say that he sometimes feels the same way his dad did about Pokemon. “Not a fucking crime." That 15 is like a racist’s token black friend. In this world, thoughts like those were dangerous. All these Arceus damned tree huggers grated on his nerves.

“!!” A squeak of delight erupts as little claws brush the silken ruff. Just as he turns to remark about it, a paw bumps into his muzzle. With an astonished blink, the rat settles back on his haunches. His whiskers twitch. After a moment, he offers up an apology in a language only they can understand. ‘My bad.’ He offers up an awkward grin as he turns back to his trainer. “Tough luck, bud.” Ezra’s smile is amused.

At the talk of entertainment, the white-haired man snorts. “Yeah. Empty stages must be great for business.” But his eyes linger on the stage a few seconds too long. There’s a brief look of hunger as he reluctantly turns away.

The man’s next comments coax out a sigh. “Really losing your touch, Aris.”

But he does stand. His prosthetic dips toward the table. With a running leap, Fifteen races up it to take his place on his master’s shoulder. “Lead the way.”

As his scope pops through the vegetation, the man smirks. It’s somehow terrifying in its angelicness. It’s not his actual target—that’d be too fucking easy—but it’s related to it. A blue little scorpion with big bug eyes. It's currently trying to eat leaves with its tail. But the poison drips onto the vegetation turning it to detritus with a sickening hiss.

Considering all the booze he’s thrown back, Ezra’s hands are surprisingly steady. A flesh-and-blood index finger slips down to the bow’s trigger. His entire world narrows to the Skorupi’s chest. Just under those layers is a beating heart. One a single bolt can silence.

So, when someone peels the bush apart, it takes him by surprise. “!?” His arm jerks up and away from this blonde idiot. It thuds into a tree a hundred yards away with an audible thunk. With a snarl, the man surges to his feet. There’s murder in his eyes. His fake arm tightens into a steel fist.

“Stupido stronzo!” His first words are barely intelligible Alto Marean. "What the fuck are you doing?” The man reaches up to shove Shinobu. His breath smells like cheap alcohol. For a moment, he looks at the bolt in a longing way. Like he regretted turning it away.

With a quick glance at the scuffle, the Skorupi bolts into the underbrush.

Exactly 22 years ago, his old man kicked the can. Or, to be more accurate, literally lost his fucking head. A little Ezra had stood there stunned as a Drapion had risen behind his father like a charmed Arbox. Then he watched as its pincers grabbed the man and pulled. He’d exploded like a gory confetti popper.

The thing turned its eyes to him. “!?” A squeak was all he’d managed. As he ran, Ezra felt a strange pressure on his arm. But he’d been too high on adrenaline to realize he’d left a limb behind. You might think he’d be upset that the poison type escaped. But it’d never bothered him. The ugly fucker had been Dad’s prized toy for months. He kind of had to admire it for getting out. Maybe pour it a beer for killing the bastard.

But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t kill it when he found it. Which he decided he’d try and do today.

With a Rattata perched on his shoulder, Ezra moved through the undergrowth. The faint stench of alcohol lingered on his breath. It came courtesy of a pack of his old man’s favorite beer. But he wasn’t drunk. Hell, he wasn’t even tipsy. Not yet, anyway.

“Place is dead as a fucking door nail.” Ezra remarked to Fifteen. “It’s worse than Leon’s bedroom.” An indulgent, wicked giggle emerged as the rat wiped at its whiskers. Then, it paused. Ears perked forward.

Ezra’s hand slipped to the bow at his back. Its head was specifically designed to pierce through carapace. A stick cracked as he notched an arrow. "Ollie ollie, oxen-free, motherfucker."

His hand stays on the trigger long after it's necessary. There’s a hint of domineering hate in his dual-colored gaze. Normally relaxed lips are twisted in a silent snarl as the dog’s whimpers finally end. I’m not my brother, bitch. When he sees Freya, the man’s demeanor shifts. That anger is replaced by an almost lackadaisical ease. The smile on his face could charm Squirtles from their shells.

At the question, he finally shifts his finger. With a shake of her head, the black dog pushes herself back to her feet. The dark type doesn’t bother to growl. Her only rebellion is a single glare tossed Ezra’s way. For a moment, the Houndoom’s mind is consumed by images of giving the cripple a matching arm. Maybe she would even cauterize it for him. The silver-haired man’s initial response comes in the form of a shook head. “My brother’s, actually.” A hand rests surprisingly gently between the canine’s ears. “Guy had no idea how to handle her.” And what kind of brother would turn down the begging?

Movement up ahead drew the mobster’s paranoid gaze. But it was just a Xatu trying to peer at the sun through a metric fuckton of rock. This time, the Houndoom turned to face him. “Go ahead.” With almost puppy-like energy, the Houndoom rocketed after the bird. A fight broke out as rock-melting flames met telekinesis in a flurry of burning feathers.

Aubre’s uncle owned one of those weird birds. That and its garish colors probably creeped her out.

Ezra stepped closer to Freya.

His metal arm came to rest on the railing next to her. His eyes narrowed at the lettering in front of him. “Any idea what this shit says?”

A simple roll of the eyes punctuates Aris’s sarcasm. Not that he’d be surprised if the guy went around milking goat holes. It wasn’t like they were that different from bears. Swap paws and beer bellies for hooves, and most drunks couldn’t tell the difference.

If he noticed the glare, he didn’t pay it much mind. In his head, that was the guy's name. You can call a rose a tulip, but it still pricked your ass. That was one reason he didn’t actually have a band name. Just seemed like a lot of trouble for a game of pretend.

The hug lingers for just a few seconds. It made him feel itchy, even if it felt right. As it ends, Ezra pushes Aris back to arm’s length. No need to let Blondie get too excited. Fortunately, any awkwardness explodes when the other guy opens his big mouth. Temporary discomfort—courtest of a tied tongue—shifts into a smirk. His hands drop to his legs as he takes a seat on the table.

A silvery brow jerks upward. “Is the gonorrhea extra?” There’s a brief pause as he takes an offered drink. “Or do you throw that in for free?” He turns slightly as the Eevee jumps on the table. His nose briefly crinkles with distaste before turning to the club at large.

“How’s business?” Like earlier texts said, he thought the place could use a bit of leg. It’d benefit from some real music too.

The Rattata doesn’t seem scared of the Eevee. With a glance at Aris and his trainer, he takes a few steps forward to bump noses. A tiny paw lifts to adjust his tie as 15 stands on his back legs. A claw goes to run through Sydora’s ruff, admiring the soft fluff.
