Dazily trying to follow the Zeraora's moves, Quill stumbles to his feet. And, with a huge, messy splash of purple-black paint, he does his best to hit Raikiri with some Bitter Malice!

Sure, Sio wasn't some high speed racer or even a well ranked gym leader of any kind- but in times like these, when any and every detail of an exchange needs to be properly remembered and documented? They're more than determined to keep up with the lightning speed of the two felines. "How can you, when you've hardly kept up~?!" Sio shouts in taunting back, laughing. After all, they were a junkie for adrenaline, even if it took the backseat on most occasions.

Quill stumbles back as one of the Flame Punches finally connects with his face. Growling, he forces himself to recollect himself as quickly as he feasibly can before getting right back into the fight. Reeling himself back, an Electro Ball forms between his paws before he lunges it at Raikiri - hoping to deal the final blow!

As the green glow emanates from both Queen Zing and Shalin, and the former grows to be much larger than she normally was. Between this fact and the uncertainty as to what the bug-type would do next, Quill's almost ready to throw in the towel.

The key word being "almost."

Ready to make a last ditch effort for some semblance of victory, Quill growls- slinging purple-black paint against the green Beedrill- casting a Bitter Malice on her.

"...Siotti?" Sio echoes back, caught off guard by the sudden nickname and the blush on Biscotti's cheeks. They hadn't said anything that came of like...that, did they? Certainly not. While they continue to observe the steadily unfolding situation, they hum - amused? Intrigued? Mocking? It's a bit hard to tell with the reporter, but it's present regardless.

With a hint of slyness, Sio waves to Cannoli before the stall door slams back shut.

And as JJ wakes up and squares up against Quill, the Smeargle knows he doesn't have any more time to fool around and sniff his opponent. It's fightin' time, and he makes it clear by throwing his own fists up and bouncing- almost like a boxer!

Hopefully, such a goofy sort of confidence would carry him well, especially with the daunting Cross Chop coming his way. But maybe...

"Quill, fire up! Me First!" Sio shouts- and the Smeargle immediately begins to paint! He flings paint about- psychic pink turning into a passionate blood orange before he swings forward, trying to hit JJ with her own move!

"Well, it certainly sounds about right. A convention, an expo, any of those sorts of terms-" Sio starts to respond, quickly interrupted by the proper start of the battle.

Which, with the Tailwind quickly picking uo speed, it not only dissipates Quill's Psyshield Bash, but also sends him tumbling back! He takes a second to sit up and gather himself even with the stars spinning about before he hops back up, more than ready for more.

Pink paint is flung about once more, though this time for something entirely different. Readying himself with Me First, he prepares himself to dish out whatever Queen Zing wants to serve up before she can!

Well at this rate, if Josh wanted to learn more about transforming pokemon, Quill would certainly be free for a more proper demosntration after all of this settled down.

And, of course, after this vengeful Zeraora finally got all of his energy out.

Taunting Raikiri with a yapping laughter and a raspberry blown towards him, Quill bounces on his feet - still uneasy, but gradually growing used to this supernatural form with the heat of the battle. Trying his best to respond to the Drain Punches, he'd set out his own fury in the form of a hasty Flame Punch!

Honestly, after a long day's battling, some sweets sound really good right about now...though thankfully for now, Quill still had a handful of his treats left to snack on, and Sio was finally breaking in the muffin they packed for themself.

Besides, it's not like one can really buy something from the snack stall when the guy who's supposed to be running it barrels towards you. Sio is the first to perk up- the detective giving a couple startled blinks before simply observing Biscotti. Though after a moment they smile back, giving an amused hum. "Scotti...I'm Sio, pleasure to meet you. Although, mh..." they trail off, looking back towards...

Where Quill stands, sniffing and yipping at the sleeping Incineroar - he isn't sure if JJ is a light sleeper or not, but either way he's curious. "I'd like to battle, but I'm not sure how well that'd go against a sleeping Pokemon," they finish their thought, chuckling as they watch from just past Scotti's shoulder.

And it's exactly when Tsukiko pounces upon him after resurfacing that Quill loses his transformation -paint melting away to reveal the tired and panting Smeargle underneath all that "fur." Once he's able to regain his footing, though, he bounces right back up - yapping at Tsukiko and waving his paws about. Good fight!

Similarly, Sio can't help but quietly chuckle at the display, ruffling the fur atop Quill's head. She glances back to Makoto as they speak, humming and shaking their hand with a returned smile. "And same to you, darling- really took the spotlight there~" she muses, giving Tsukiko a pat as well.

Admittedly not that Quill would ever admit something like this, the Transformation into a Zeraora isn't the smoothest. Sure, he's more than confident as the Plasma Fists reach their charge and slam into the real deal, but it's almost like there's a bit of recoil from the whole ordeal. The fascimile wobbles a bit after the hit lands...

But with Sio's eager laughter and cheering at something that seemed utterly impossible, Quill straightens right back up. More than ready to keep being the strong funny guy and show this Zeraora who's boss, Quill swings right back with his own Quick Attack, aiming right for the face!

"Still going to laugh after that, hm~?"

Reveling in his momentary success, Quill yaps about as Tsukiko is buffeted and blown away by the Blizzard. It was neck and neck now, and the temporary Ninetales is more than determined to be the one to stand on top!

Though it's not all too easy for him to hear or see her Dig underground, he still prepares his attack. Besides, what else is he supposed to do when he can't even see his opponent? With a slightly less than mighty howl, he brings on a Springtide Storm, hoping to finally knock Tsukiko down with the cold petals!

Admittedly, the sound of sparking hadn't been one Quill was ever anticipating. Sure, electric-types were to be expected, but with how many fights he'd gone without seeing one, the Pikachu before him got him curious! The detective's Smeargle is already bounding forward, eager to sniff at the two strangers...

And meanwhile, Sio hums in amusement and curiosity themself. "I suppose so, so greetings! My name's Sio, and..." they pause, peering down at their partner pokemon and snickering. "That's Quill. It's a pleasure to meet you both." Seeing Quill's curiosity as rather harmless at the moment, they simply take Ollie's hand to shake before stepping back.

"What was that saying, about battles like these helping one really get to know another person? Do you suppose that would apply here?'

Sio perks up at the familiar voice of the Ranger, and smiles- actually looking up from their notes to wave at Shalin. "And here I thought I'd see you sooner! But..." they start, tilting their head. "Main tournament? As far as I'm concerned, this was the only tournament I saw advertised as of late..." The detective puts their notes away, brushing off and standing to proper attention.

After all, there's not much time to think when Quill, who's been eagerly sniffing and yapping at the shiny Beedrill, is already raring to fight again.

"Suppose you'll tell me later, hm? For now, show me your skills outside of riding." With a stretch, a whistle, and a grin, both Sio and Quill are prepared for battle! "It's your time to shine, darling! Psyshield Bash!"

Quill yaps and nods, whirling his tail around to paint a bright pink psychic shield- before barreling towards Queen Zing, planning to ram it at her!

Quill is the first of the pair to notice Josh and Raikiri approach- from the imposing nature of the Zeraora to the overall feeling of meeting someone new, the Smeargle is...

EXCITED!!! He bounces up from where he sits with Sio, bolting to the pair with eager barks and yaps. Giving a chuckle of their own at the display and coming to notice the Gym Leader as well, they stand, brushing their skirt off and waving back. "Ah, hello. Sio Sotí, detective and reporter extraordinaire- or simply Sio, if we're forgoing titles," they bow, coming back up with a coy smirk. "But...if you're a Gym Leader, I suppose we should put our all into this, hm~?"

Quill, meanwhile, is still sniffing the air around the Leader and pokemon duo, but stands at attention when Sio finally whistles for him. "Quill, Transform! Figure out everything you can about your opponent!"

And so, with that and some flourishes of his tail and lavender paint, Quill paints himself into a fascimile of Raikiri! A bit of a strange feeling, really, but something he could get used to- even if it meant having to be a cat instead of a dog for the time being. Especially now, as he charges with Plasma Fists to punch the other pokemon!
