That being said, he's still more than ready to dish out what it's trying to serve quicker than it- quite literally, too! With a couple flicks of pink paint, Quill copies his new friend's Night Slash with Me First, ready to make a good first impression!

The Smeargle stumbled and startled slightly at the sound of the horn- but with the Beedrill already starting to use Tailwind against him, he wouldn't bow down so easily. This was his chance for a good rematch, after all!

And one with all the cards perfectly in play- or so he hoped.

Ready to get the show rolling right off the bat, Quill slashes the air with his tail, getting splashes of bright green and black paint everywhere as he paints himself into looking like the opponent with Transform! The playing field would definitely be more even that way, right?

Though Sio seems to be growing a bit tired after guiding Quill through fight after fight, the latter doesn't seem to be any bit exhausted! The only hesitance he seems to show is towards the Beedrill before him; he's seen what she can do, and he is NOT a fan. He steps up to her, giving her a bit of a glaring look.

"That I am, Shalin," Sio responds, trailing into a hum. "And it looks like you are, too. Let's end this all with a bang, shall we~?"

Was the weather always this gloomy...? If it was, Sio certainly hadn't noticed it any. And Quill didn't seem to mind either- as was evident by the Smeargle hopping and skipping to whoever they were going to battle next.

Seeing the Zoroark saunter up, Quill yips to him and waves, trying to sniff the air around the both of them. Interesting...maybe a friend? He'd have to see!

"Sio, a pleasure to meet you too," the reporter responds, giving the other trainer a grin in return. "I'm looking forward to it." And clearly, so is Quill, as he keeps on yapping to the Zoroark.

Huh...she repeated herself. That's no matter to Sio, though; Luka seems like the kind of woman she'd rather chat with over tea, or perhaps even chardonnay...

But that's the least of their worries right now, especially when Sugar is already leaping into battle. Quill can't help but be entranced by the bright lights- but maybe he can add onto that! Giving a cutesy twirl of his own and conjuring some pink paint, the Smeargle tries to one up her with Me First! Maybe the mutual blindness would cause Sugar to double over, and he'd gain the upper hand- er- paw- anyways!

Battles are an art, and Sio has been involved in multiple forms of both; sure, they never fought on a proper battlefield, but here they were now, and there was the pile of documents back home for new reports. Where there is a battle, there is art. Where there is art, one battles, It's a universal truth.

Quill yelps as Tofu crashes into his shield, and he stumbles back a bit. Well, that wasn't what he'd expected to have happen to his piece! But he can fix this; an artist will always bounce back, after all! Hastily, he waves the brush end of his tail about, turning the pink shards of his shield into a deep purple and striking back with Bitter Malice!

Sio merely nods as this...labrador-esque boy tries to confirm that they did, in fact, call him interesting. In their defense, that's how they view everyone, so it wasn't like some special treatment or anything. But if he wanted to believe that, then so be it. Not like it harmed them in any way.

Besides, there's more important things to focus on- like the fact that Quill's laughter is immediately silenced by JJ's Drain Punch making direct contact with him. The Smeargle stumbles back, looking up at the Incineroar with a big, beady pair of eyes that said all they needed to. Hurt me? But I'm just the little guy! You wouldn't be mean to the little guy, would you?

No matter, he'll still lash back with Me First- try and one up her again!

The more Quill saw and smelled, the more confused he grew. He was a wild pup at one point too, but he never dared to try and live with this many other species of canid pokemon before! Still, it's something that only proves to heighten his curiosity.

Sio, meanwhile, keeps their mental log of their own observations. They assign different pawprints to the pokemon the detective knows they belong to - and they even take small samples of fur tufts stuck in the overgrowth.

However, at the feeling of being watched...

Both pokemon and detective notice it at the same time, but Quill is the first to actually act on it. He looks back up at the perched Honchkrow, tilting his head in a similar manner to her. His tail wags lazily behind him and, not wanting to scare the bird away, he gives a soft, curious set of yips and barks. Was this a friend, or a foe?

"Yes, perfect! Keep that up, dear!' Sio cheers.

Sure enough, the Me First hits right where it hurts; though, that's to be expected, considering it's a move Quill's been able to use almost perfectly.

"He's getting too close; maintain your space!"

Maybe they were treating it a bit too similarly to fencing or something of that nature, but the point still gets itself across. Hastily yet artfully, Quill paints a bright pink shield. And steeling himself in place, he holds it out in front of him- treating the Psyshield Bash like a matador would treat their cape!

Sio squints, picking up on the awkward bodily cues that Scotti gives. Honestly, it's not even like they're upset or anything- merely entertained. "Hm...cute, you say?" they muse in turn, tilting their head. Siotti...the more they repeat it in their head, the more they can see his point. They chuckle, giving a small shrug. "I suppose so. Still, you're an...interesting case, Bisco." They add on, smirking. After all, what's the harm in trying to return the mashup nickname favor?

Though, it's not like there's much time to dwell while the battle continues to heat up. Quill howls with laughter as JJ is taken aback by his attack, bouncing on his feet. It always felt especially good getting a hit on the bigger guy; and honestly, a lot of pokemon were bigger than a lil ol' Smeargle!

"You've got it, darling! Keep JJ down, Bitter Malice!" Sio exclaims, followed by Quill barking in acknowledgement. With a couple flicks of his tail, blood orange shifts to obsidian purple- and he flings the painted resentment JJ's way!

Quill yips happily as Tofu sniffs him in turn- friendship! That's most certainly a friend! Hm...had Chamomile ever stolen a hat similar to his? He'd have to check with the Sinistea later, if he remembered.

"I suppose you're right. Quill, darling- step back a little, will you?" Sio calls to their Smeargle, who hops back as Tofu goes to the center of the field. Tail wagging and still yapping, he seems just as eager to fight.

Which, as Tofu crackles with a beginning Discharge, Quill is already more than prepared to respond to the attack. With glowing pink paint slinging off the end of his tail, Quill is quick to utilize Me First, copying Tofu's attack to use before it!

The shield was put up too late- and for just a moment, Sio could see genuine fear in his eyes, his posture, everything. Even as the Beedrill shrinks back down to normal and calms herself, it looks like Quill is about to faint from just the residual fear alone.

"Mh..sure. You'd better keep working on that with her, then," Sio snaps back at Shalin- not quite angry, but certainly not pleased. Quill slumps in Sio's arms as they pick him up- and the two leave the battlefield in tired silence.

"You've really been putting everything into these matches, hm?" Sio quietly muses to Quill, the pair being on their way to their next match. And it was true- whether he won or lost, the Smeargle met every opponent with the same bouncy, eagerly competitive energy.

Quill barks to Sio's question though, hopping from one foot to the other the whole way - and in the process, quelling Sio's own worries. They'd know when he had enough, after all; and it was clear that he hadn't even gotten close to hitting that threshold yet.

That being said, both trainer and pokemon perk up with a new voice and the yipping of a Sylveon. Sio gives a quiet, warm chuckle and a wave. "Ah! Hello to you too, and thank you. You and Sugar both are too sweet," they muse, a small grin forming on their face. And while sure, scars accentuate themselves in the gesture, what's more on their mind is this new pairing.

"I am Sio, and this is Quill," they gesture down to him- who's already yipping at Sugar, sniffing around her curiously! "And of course- I look forward to learning all I can about you two from this. So good luck."  As if almost on cue, they already have a small notepad and pen in their hands- ready to note anything interesting they find about Luka or Sugar.
