Lutgarde gets quiet at Josh's words, unsure if he means what they think he might mean. "Do you think that's ... Shalin's? But that's really far away," they think, but can't really rule out the possibility. They wouldn't be able to recognise Shalin's Starmie, however, nor does it help that the Starmie actually is able to be caught ... ... "I hope it's not, maybe," they add ruefully. If it can be captured ... that might mean that Shalin's pokéballs are destroyed. And that's ...

"Yeah, I'm just glad it wasn't overly hostile," Lutgarde replies, nodding as they and Noh follow Josh towards the endless pile of debris. "We'll probably also need a net or similiar to get all those splinters out of the way," they add, fishing out some of them carefully with their hands - but it's a futile task given how many there are.

Then, they halt for amoment, listen to something beyond the ocean waves ... "I think reinforcements might actually show up - hope they also bring some more equipment." Given the size, the usual equipment that Lutgarde carries wouldn't quite cut it.

Lutgarde nods at Josh's words, sneaking in a low whistle during Staccato's Sparkling Aria to call for Sylph to come over. "Yes ... I just hope it's not too aggressive because of its injuries," the ranger adds, seeing as the Aria has calmed it down a little bit. It still appears weary of them upon Sylph's arrival, who is also eyed with distrust.

"What do you mean?" they ask then as they motion gently for Sylph to try approach - and she'd be able to take it from here. With Noh also keeping a close eye on the situation, the Togekiss approaches carefully, offering Life Dew to the injured Starmie so it could recover from its wounds.

Lutgarde hasn't had the chance yet to meet Shalin with Starmie, so they don't see what Josh might be putting down here. Still, the unusual sizing does remind them of the ranger captain, given that one of her mostly used pokémon that Lutgarde's seen is a very large Venusaur.

Lutgarde nods, "Will do!" There's Noh, Garnet and Sylph around, too, so they aren't too worried - but with a Galarian Rapidash out on sea, one definitely should keep an eye out. Gladly, they aren't a fire trainer out on high sea, though they wouldn't dare try that stunt with a Kantonian Rapidash either.

Trouble does find them in different ways, however - and in two, at that. First, there's movement underneath the debris which can't mean any good news, and then, as Lutgarde's assisting the Primarinas with getting the debris out of the way, another news from Josh.

"Oh dear," they murmur, "Are your pokémon coming with them? Maybe they can take those instead of that raft." There's also the thought that they're possibly even faster than the raft could be, if the logistics of it all would work out ... but now, their attention is already claimed by what's in front of them.

They only see the eyes briefly, before the pokémon is already lashing out, attacking as soon as it saw an opening. Surprised, Noh and thus Lutgarde are sent backwards, with the aggressive and struggling Starmie frees itself more. The gem seems to regard them with open hostility, and even as it does its best to only show its good side ... "I'm pretty sure the Starmie's injured," they call out as Noh sets up an Aqua Ring.

Lutgarde grins slightly lopsided at Oreo's clearly not thrilled to be here but here anyway expression, but it hasn't turned to become entirely bad - they know that look by chance, and they would rather not see their horse going haywire again. "She'd return to her ball if it becomes really unbearable, but I think she'd like to help else." While delegating many pieces of debris, the Galarian Rapidash also draws several more near her to make a bigger raft. Lutgarde's never quite warmed up to the idea of having a lot of pokémon, so everyone on their team tends to need to pull double their weight, including the ranger themself as they swim to help with organising the debris.

"Okay, very nice! Every additional hand should be help, and your pokémons're good to help out, too, so we shouldn't run into major problems." They hope. However, they see some movement underneath some of the debris that has been partially uncovered.

"Noh, come here- Josh, I think something's been trapped over there!" they call out as their Primarina swims them over quickly.

Lutgarde looks quite impressed upon the comparison with the much more known game, nodding. "That's ... very impressive. And ... She definitely sounds like someone worth every mile," they agree with a wistful smile that they let fade into silence - as they don't find anything to add, no further words to add to console such a devastating happening. It's rueful that they haven't had chance to interact with her more before ... but that's all regrets of the past that Lutgarde desperately tries not to hold onto.

There's the present, after all, a grace extended to them.

The task looks Herculean for the duo, but with more help ... "Sounds good! Let's try not to make it into overtime," Lutgarde tries a light joke as they gesture for Noh to swim around and help out as well. "Alright, let's do our best!" Focusing on work is definitely easier, and they slide into the water as well to leave Noh with more room to work, loading up himself and others. After a moment of consideration, they also whistled to get Sylph, their Togekiss, on board, since maneuvring via air would also be a great help.

"Oh, that piece might be able to hold ... Oreo, is it alright there?" The Galarian Rapidash doesn't exactly seem thrilled about balancing on a fiece of floatsam, but she neighs affirmatively. "Use Psychic to arrange some pieces of the debris, too!"

Yveltal's wings are mighty, and sends them flying at high speed through the tunnel - the only chance they had at getting out of there alive, probably.

The stench of death is not entirely unfamiliar - and especially as it unfolds in wider spaces, Lutgarde has to briefly reminisce about fields at home, compost heaps and mulch as it's laid onto the fields, nurturing the earth. A cycle, even if it's truly got the short end of the stick compared to the shimmering beauty of Xerneas' rainbow-coloured gems.

They also think of the few murder scenes they have witnessed, one of them even fairly recently in Hoenn, and more in Lumiose City, as their station there has lead them to assist in some detective work occasionally (though they never were really good at piecing together the pieces). The backstreets filled with garbage and pokémon that live there, the sewers that they frequent for work.

However, they are aware that not everyone's reacting quite so well to these smells - Arceus knows they didn't at first. "Everything alright?" they ask as Shalin as they come to open field, though they have to scream over the billowing of the Legendary's wings. They then lean forward, as if that would make any difference in communicating with the terastal Yveltal. "Let's make a beeline for the entrance," they say, and it actually follows - maybe a bit too well. Immediately, it speeds up even more, perhaps also sensing that its time is coming to an end.

Lutgarde almost felt like they would fall off if they didn't strengthen their grip, with Sylv's ribbons securing them in another layer, as well as Shalin. They then come to an abrupt stop, which almost shakes them off again, a moment in which Shalin- "How're you doing?" they ask sympathetically, before they feel the solid structure beneath them slowly disintegrating.

"Uh, oh, Sylph!" they call, before giving Yveltal a pat - now that it couldn't really rebel against it - just moments prior to its full disappearance. Swooping in comes their Togekiss then, ready to catch them and Shalin if necessary, using Extreme Speed to manage their capture just in time.

Lutgarde doesn't assist in battle efforts - their eyes are locked mostly on the wellbeing of the forcefully displaced pokémon as a ranger and rescue efforts concerning them. However, their patrol has lead them to stumble across a group of scouts close to the shore - the tumultuous sea that Kyogre has left, for now pacified.

Their Milotic Garnet as well as their Togekiss Sylph have been sent to spread out - Garnet taking a look at further bodies of water, while Sylph's as ever doing a diligent job of surveying the area from above. Oreo, the Galarian Rapidash, has taken to the land, and distant psychic pings reassure Lutgarde of her wellbeing and success of smaller battles fought. There's a faint smile that still lingers as they themself come across a Rocket, clearly visible from the garb.

Their black-red-dyed Sylveon is by Lutgarde's side, and similiar to his trainer, there's a moment of pity. Of reluctance, as they always seem to be troubled when coming face to face with the enemy.

Another human, they think, and yet.

But there's a gentle tug with the ribbon connecting them, and Lutgarde nods. Opposite ends - a mentality of flinch and you'll lose.

"I'm afraid not," they reply, gesturing for Sylv to stand back for now, and call for their Primarina Noh with a flourish that befits the shy diva - though it also is equally awkward then, too, as Lutgarde isn't really used to showy things of the elegant kind, despite their appearance. Even in uniform, there's bows and ribbons, a little bit of lace.

The Primarina readies, singing quietly to the water surrounding him as he calls for an Aqua Ring to lay itself around him.

Lutgarde nods, smiling optimistically and reassuringly, "We can make it work, I believe!" There's no words to back that up, but if the ranger's good at anything, it's keeping their optimism even when things seem rather hopeless. (Except a few moments. There's always exceptions to a rule.)

They nod, "Yes, same, but ... there's the possibility to charge into really fragile situation, so we'll need to have a handle on it first." Hostage situations, for example, with a hair trigger and similiar. They let Sylph lead the way as they follow and quickly come upon the root of yet another problem ... A poacher with a Krookodile. Gladly, they seem to be on the phone right now, probably talking about the bag with round balls ... probably pokéballs, poached from this route.

"Alright, ambush time," they announce, followed shortly after by Sylv charging in with Quick Attack at the Krookodile. They also decide to not drag out this encounter for too long, taking out another pokéball. It's fairly pristine, though there seem to be some cuts on it - as if marked by a blade, the pattern on it is symmetrical and definitely not something Lutgarde could ever carve themself. It's made by the pokémon emerging from the ball after a decisive toss - an Iron Valiant, Epimeliad (or just Epi).

"Epi, grab that bag!" they call, and the robotic pokémon nods. It pushes away any opposition with a glowing Leaf Blade, before taking the bag of pokéballs, hanging onto it as it's ... a bit unsure what to do. They haven't worked for long together, so they're not in-sync yet with Lutgarde as their other pokémon are. "You're doing great!" the ranger reassures it however, before turning back to the Rocket.

"Time to end your poaching here, you're gonna come with us." Though the conclusion might not be as easy as they have in mind.

"Voltorb Flip ... I don't think we had that game in Kalos, but I heard of it," Lutgarde replies with a faint grin that definitely seems more humble than they usually carry themself - the reason becoming evident with their next words, "Some friends let me play a simulation and oh man, I was so bad at that. I'm impressed you could gather enough coins - that had to be crazy expensive." And ... while never been to Johto, they assume that such establishments are run fairly the same all around the world. They've got experience with them in Kalos, as Lumiose City wasn't devoid of them either.

And then ... death. It truly seems to only continue further on, with the war being as merciless as it is. Devastating with its result, and the survivors ... could only continue on. "It is," Lutgarde nods in agreement - quiet as they do not know what further to add. They never lost so far - but when would that first time come around? It's a thought that silences them in both mind and word, before they shake their head to focus at the task ahead.

"Yeah, that's ... that's definitely more supplies than I expected," they agree, looking at the mass of things to move. They aren't prepared for such operations pokémon-wise, though Sylph could also help with simply flying over the water and dragging some behind her, too. "Let's get cracking on some while we're waiting for backup to arrive?"

It's a heartwrenching sight, seeing Xerneas crumble below them ... and also by their hand in a way. It's also ... not real, which is the only consolation that Lutgarde has right now as they mourn that loss, however imaginary it might have been. There's not much time to stay here, however, as their surroundings start to crackle and crack with terastal energy.

They shift around a bit to make more room for Shalin to hold on, nodding at her words with a faint smile. "I'll do my best," they do reassure her with confidence in their voice that definitely wavers once you look inside more. There's a flicker of a thought, too, as they sit still for a moment atop this mighty beast.

For all things they wanna keep safe, aren't they ... a force of destruction, too? With carelessness, with a mind that doesn't seem to mind all that much. And a hand that could crumble things so easily.

But they pry themself away from that, and perhaps Yveltal is also sensing such efforts as it roars, lifting itself up higher into the sky, before making a dive with its mighty wings towards a big tunnel leading out of here - its flight is rough and smooth at the same time, as it propels them jsut inches away from the ceiling caving in. The sound of stone and crystal cracking, dull and clear alike, is near deafening as they make a narrow escape.

Lutgarde almost jumps as Minjun is actually at the site already, too - they somehow have entirely missed him. However, Sylv helps them keep face by already having figured out his presence, and flooding Lutgarde's mind with calmness. So they laugh in agreement, though it rings a sorrowful note as they think about the ongoing war. "It is. But it's good that such places exist still - it's a good reminder, not?" they remark with a smile that slowly gains more certainty.

In the seemingless endless fight, it's easy to wonder what that's all for if everything comes crumbling down again. Like the tale of the man rolling a boulder up a hill with no hope of ever accomplishing the feat ... but there's a light at the end of it all, and it dances in front of them right now, joyous.

"Oh, perfect- I actually brought some, too," Lutgarde grins at Minjun's snack reveal. "I easily get hungry on patrols like these, so I brought some sandwiches along, too." Though the amount might also look a bit intimidating, they'd definitely be able to finish it all one way or another. "Almost got some slumber party vibes, except we really can not fall asleep," they laugh.
