Lucas checks his watch and notes how the time had flown by since entering the woods. Looking up he can see the sun retreating over the horizon. A sure sign that he should start retracing his steps.

Just because he was on his way out of the forest didn't mean Lucas would stop catching pokemon. When a caterpie crosses his path he wastes little time. Kabutops materializes and conjures up an ancient power which crushes the bug under a pile of rubble.

Scizor stood out like a sore thumb as it passes overhead. Both from the coloration of its shell and the fact it was an absolute unit. Without a moment's hesitation, Lucas sends Aerodactyl out to handle it.

What began as an elegant battle in the scientist's eyes becomes little more than a street fight. Dirty bullet punches are thrown left and right from Scizor. It prompts Aerodactl to clamp down with fire fangs. The pokemon go back and forth till their untimely plummet towards the ground. Aerodactyl's wing is caught in Scizor's claws while Scizor's wing is caught in Aerodactyl's fangs.

The next pokemon to come fleeing from the direction of the smoke was a Ladyba. With an ancient power as her weapon Kabutops snipes it out of the air with surgical precision. An air slash slices through the air in retaliation. It thuds harmlessly against the hardened prehistoric shell. Another ancient power finishes the job.

"Ah, another dragon fanatic." Lucas kept his thoughts to himself. He'd been raised on the idea that if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

"We can just turn on some lights. They should be working still." Lucas reaches out to feel along the wall when he's pushed. Nostrils flare and one hand curls into a fist briefly. "Let's be careful." He says through clenched teeth.

Flicking a switch the lights came on in the abandoned powerplant. "Presto." Some lights flicker, while several others don't shine at all. "Not so scary now, right?"

After locking all the doors and setting all the alarms Lucas went to work in his study room. Fossils and other antiques dot the walls and displays. As the minutes tick by, he finds it harder and harder to keep his eyes open. Setting his head down on his desk Lucas closes his eyes for what he thought would be a five-minute nap.

As he drifts off to sleep the last thing Lucas sees are his fossils. "The gangs all here," he says as he drifts off to sleep.

Lucas wasn't the only one that brought grief and turmoil to the Petalburg Woods. In the distance, he could see smoke rising into the air. No doubt from one of the contest participants, Lucas thought.

Appearing from the same direction as the smoke was a Caterpie. Lucas looks it over for a moment. He notes the lack of burns and decided to go through with capturing the pokemon. Ancient power crushes the Caterpie with raised earth.

Like countless others, Lucas left the forest looking like a natural disaster just struck. Trees lay shattered upon ground streaked with cracks and holes. The pokemon that lived there only hours ago have either fled in fear of their life. Or if they were part of the unlucky few they were plucked from not only their homes but their families as well.

Ninjask became a member of these unfortunate few. Ancient power and night slashes collide till it could fight no more.

As time goes on the amount of bug pokemon left in Petalburg forest begins to thin. All the easy pickings have been plucked clean. People have to travel farther and farther in to find pokemon.

It'd be some time till Lucas would stumble upon another bug. When he does he wastes little time. Ancient power tears through and raises the ground. It propels the rubble towards Spewpa. They cast a shadow over it as they soar through the air.

Lucas Lane was pretty sure that if any of his friends saw what he was doing they'd report him for animal cruelty.

It went without saying at this point for Lucas' pokemon to attack any bug pokemon in sight. They pump a ancient power through the forest floor like it was second nature.

Charjabug is at the center of the next round of assault. It releases a pent up charge in futile retaliation. Rampardos is swift to bring down the hammer of justice by calling forth a swift ancient power.

There was a light at the end of the tunnel when Lucas laid eyes upon the fossil pokemon. Unlike the previous bugs he'd caught he tries to coerce this one. He shows it affection and offers it food. But the itsy bitsy Anortih didn't want any of it. A gentle nudge of a pokeball only frustrates it.

So Lucas crushes it with a barrage of ancient power from all the fossil pokemon he had on hand.

An ancient power courses through the forest, permeating through the very ground they stood on. Trees quake and pokemon flee as the ground began to split. Boulders and chunks of earth bigger than the Kabutops itself took to the air. Sparks fly as boulders knock against each other, spurring tiny flames to erupt near the Venomoth.
