Today was the longest night of the year in the Hoenn region. Painfully cold wind bit at Luke's exposed skin, leading him to think that it was also the coldest night of the year. The path he walked through the forest was a winding one, glaceon trotting through it by his side.

Grumbles would escape him as he nearly trips over a root hidden beneath loose snow. Ymir looks towards him for a split second, turning away as he caught himself. As he'd break through the treeline in search of the frossglass terrorizing nearby settlements it became painfully apparent to Lucas that Ymir wasn't the only one aware of his stumble. A pack of alolan ninetales had gathered at the water's edge while he traversed the forest. They'd been resting till they heard the commotion he'd made.

Slowly he'd tip toe backwards towards the pine trees, cautious of the idea that he might enrage the pokemon. There in the trees he waited for the pack to leave. Once they began to move out he threw an arched pokeball at a straggler. A fair distance between it and the rest of its pack, which Lucas suspected was due to its discoloration.

Kabutops made a gash in the wall with a single strike of night slash, the aura fading from its claws as the group moved on. Lucas made his way through the cavern with the prehistoric pokemon and a Glaceon trotting along side. Each time they took a turn in the tunnel Kabutops would leave a horizontal gash in the wall, adding a vertical slash through the middle to make a plus if the path led to a dead end. He was devoted to ensuring his return from the cave. Taking a slightly different approach to finding his way than that of Hansel and Gretel.

Light from Lucas' flashlight illuminates the path, covering every inch of the cavern as he watched carefully for any signs of anything.

The scientist freezes as he hears someone call out, he thought that he had been the only one in the cave. Looking back behind him his muscles would relax, it was just a boy. "Probably lost" he thought. "Just follow the single horizontal slashes in the wall and you'll be out" he says. His flashlight points towards the tunnel he'd just come out of. Someone the boy's age should be out with friends, not in these potentially dangerous tunnels.

Lucas raises an eyebrow as he sees a ginger walking towards him, their attire terribly unfitting for the weather. He says nothing, simply relieved to at least see someone to join him. "Did the same to me, don't take it personally. I'm Lucas, good to see you" he says as he shakes Julian's hand firmly. Kabutops tilts its head inquisitively at the mantine as its released, mystified by the fact that it's floating. Glaceon brushes itself against his leg, head tilted up as it looks towards its trainer for attention.

"I don't know about that, it's fossils they're after so I don't think they'll be hitting lightly, yeah?" Lucas says as he crouches slightly, running his fingers through the ice type's frozen fur. He neglects to mention the name of his two pokemon, thinking it irrelevant. "Then again who knows, not like they're part of Rocket. Haven't heard of the Poachyenas till now." The call for help said the contrary. He turns his attention towards the sky, as if expecting the poachers to fly in.

When Lucas found out about the situation at hand he came as fast as he could, catching a ride with one of @lysander 's company bird tamers. Landing at the edge of the survey site he would take it all in for a moment, all the archaeologists at work. If he could go back in time he'd be working here as one of them, but instead he was here as part of the league. "Here to help, where ya want me" he asks one of the passerby. They point to a small clearing in the middle of camp, too preoccupied with reading papers to look at Lucas, much less talk to him.

Tossing an empty pokeball in hand the scientist stood waiting, eyes watching anyone that got close. He really thought there'd be more people out here to help, given what was at stake.

Eventually the waiting got too much for Lucas to take, given how useless he looked to any passerby. Placing the empty pokeball back in his pocket he would switch it out for two others. There was a flash of red light as he tossed both pokeballs into the air, a Kabutops and Glaceon materializing in the dirtied snow. They both stood by their trainers side, keeping him company as he waited for other volunteers to appear.

Luke stamps his feet down on the mat by the automatic doors, slush falling from his boots. Eyes lazily look around the room. A slight sense of disappointment washes over him as much of the store is filled with junk souvenirs. Second thoughts about coming to the Space Center passed through his head. With a sigh he decides to stay however, and check out what little they had as he'd already made the trip there.

With a final shuffle of his boots the scientist made his way to the magazine section. Only one other person was there to little surprise, the other customers all browsing the other knick-knacks the store had to offer. Luke began to browse the magazines, quickly skipping over much of the collection. Finding terms on the covers that were all too confusing for someone uneducated in space and its affairs. One beginner friendly magazine stood out, titled "Life Beyond Earth" with a Lunatone and and Solrock on the cover. Walking over to the right of the stranger he reached out, grabbing the magazine and opening it midway through. Those two pages were dedicated to a women's lingerie store, and perfectly in view for anyone that walked by. He sharply inhales.

This. Was. Not. Space.

A light in the distance came into view, a comforting sign that Lucas would soon be out of the cold. His feet began to move faster, the thought of warmth motivating them. "Almost there" he thought aloud, mist forming with the words.

Out of the corner of his eye Lucas saw movement. He craned his neck to see it. Snow was being thrown into the air, but he didn't know why. Intrigued the scientist went off the path he'd been following, making his way to the exploding snowbank. What he saw pulled at the edges of his mouth forming a smile as he became giddy with excitement.

Standing before the wannabe archaeologist was an Amaura with blood pumping through its veins. A pleasant change to the fossilized ones he'd seen in museums. Its behavior was extremely surprising to Lucas however, nothing like he'd read about. It jumped happily around the snowbank with its head spinning in circles, grabbing mouthfuls of snow and throwing it into the air with each rotation. After the initial excitement his eyebrows furrowed, what was wrong with this Amaura? Throwing a ball into the air Kabutops materializes beside its trainer. Despite Lucas and his partner being a few feet away the Amaura continued its antics, seemingly unaware that they could be predators. It was obvious that it wasn't entirely there. "Just make it quick."

Amaura was clueless when it was hit with ancient power. It didn't understand why someone would want to hurt it. No one had ever hit her before. For the first time since the pokemon had caught Lucas' eye it stopped spinning its head and looked at him and Kabutops. Eyes blinked innocently as a whimpering sound began to form in its throat. Lucas was torn, it felt wrong to hurt the clueless ice type. Throwing an empty pokeball at Amaura he could only hope it wouldn't resist, lest he would have to hit it again to attempt another capture.

Arrows are painted on the barks of the tree. Lucas follows the green arrows, indicating how he can return to the Safari exit. The only reassurance he had that he was going the right way was a piece of paper an employee had given him. It was a legend, indicating which colored arrow meant what. Every few minutes Lucas would take it out of his pocket, the paper flapping in the morning wind. Eyes ran down the paper, checking to see if the green arrow was in fact the exit. Each and every time it was.

As the scientist trudges through the snow his eyes wander across the bleak environment surrounding him. They fall upon a moving figure in the snow, small in stature and as black as night. It pays him no head, so Lucas does the same. Both heading their own ways through the snow.

Lucas hasn't officially studied to be an archaeologist at all but mention anything ancient history related and he's all over it. If given the opportunity to do any research, especially with someone he sees as an archaeologist he would take it in a heart beat. He's a tad bit of a conspiracy theorist about some history theories, although he's reluctant to share in fear of scrutiny. Maybe Lucas could be acting as an assistant for something Perse is researching? I'd eat up any history related things between the two tbh.

Alexei Ivanov and Lucas Lane

So I was thinking these two could meet over space stuff. Lukes only really starting to pursue more hobbies after dedicating nearly all his time to Devon Corp ~~in their cellar~~ the past few years. He knows basically next to nothing about Space and the stars but thinks it'd be really interesting to get into. The only space-y stuff he knows is that light pollution is bad and that it sucks to look at the stars while in the big city, which is where he lives. The two could meet over some space talk / tour / whatever nerds do. Idk I'm down for anything space related.

The tracks Lucas made leading up to that point came up cold, a light snow fall filling them in. Worry began to gather at the edge of his mind now. It was only careless people that got trapped in this kind of weather, and he was not of those people. Fists clench in the peacoat pockets. Rangers and police warned the public the best thing to do in this scenario was to stay where you are. Either wait out the weather or wait for searchers to rescue you. The thought of doing so didn't cross the scientist's mind.

Lucas turns around as K comes to a halt. He suspects the fossil pokemon has grown too cold, unaccustomed to this new strange weather. That was not the case. Rushing through the freshly fallen snow it vanished within moments. The only indication that the kabutops hadn't abandoned its trainer were the sounds to follow.

Night slash, blizzard, ancient power, ice fang, and bite were thrown back and forth.

There was a flurry of attacks sent between both Kabutops and the mysterious pokemon it was fighting. Heart beat fast as Lucas stood in the snow. Only returning to normal as the prehistoric came back trudging through the snow, a body dragged behind it by a single claw. Lucas saw the tremendous effort it took K to walk, relieving him of it by returning him to his pokeball. Stepping forward and craning his neck Lucas laid his eyes upon the pokemon K fought.

Its worth was recognized in sheer moments, the ice type disappearing in a flash of red.

The mist began to dissipate now, allowing Lucas to get his bearings. Markings on the trees became noticeable to him now, pointing in the direction of the Safari's exit. He followed them, eager to get out of the cold.

Lucas initially walked through the Safari zone aimless. There were no tracks to follow, and no sounds to be heard. What felt like an eternity in that chilling cold passed before something caught his eye. A zigzagging path in the snow, small mounds of snow to either side. Some fell back onto the path, whatever supporting it before having vanished. Lucas began to walk alongside the trail, his tracks curving in line and backtracking wherever the path did. Till finally he stumbled upon what appeared to be a moving snowball at first glance. But between the snow here and there was tufts of sickly green fur.

The pokemon trudged on through the snow despite the scientist's presence. Perhaps it was oblivious of him, or maybe it simply didn't care. Clicking the cold seal of a pokeball Lucas releases Kabutops, hitting the ground with a thump and a spray of snow. "Go on K" he says, shoving numb hands back into coat pockets. The fossil pokemon's body glowed with a rippling white light, a white ball at its mouth grew in sync with the ripples. Throwing its head towards the swinub the ball went flying, followed by a hurt oink as the pokemon was sent flying into a pile of snow. To Lucas' astonishment a mist began to form in the Safari, seemingly out of nowhere. "C'mon hurry up K, we need to head back." There was a hint of worry in his voice. It was dangerous to be wandering in the mist.

Swinub's snow pact fur blended perfectly in with the pile of snow it landed in. Kabutop's claws began to glow a dark, nearly black navy blue as it began to sweep them through the snowbank. At first they went through cleanly, before they found their mark. "Hurry up, we need to get out of here." Lucas tapped the limp body with an empty pokeball, causing it to disappear in a flash of red light within seconds. The mist was present still, and it only seemed to get thicker with each passing moment.

Lucas tapped his card against the machine. Moments later a beeping came from it, "APPROVED" coming up on the screen. Putting the debit card back into his black leather wallet Lucas would then proceed to place it into his breast pocket. Making his way towards a set of automatic doors he buttoned up his navy peacoat, the last button falling into place as the doors would open. Cold licked at the scientist's face and snow crunched beneath his boots as he made his way into the Safari zone. The zone was filled with an ominous silence that cold Saturday morning.

It was unnerving.
