Well, that was a relief. He didn’t want to be alone in a place like this. But he didn’t really want to leave either. It was a weird feeling of wanting and not wanting that left him feeling just a bit restless.

“That sounds nice,” he commented, relaxing minimally.

However, the topic of missing people seemed to get rid of the little progress that had been made to make him start relaxing. The fact he was chewing his lip made it apparent he found the topic concerning. Which, considering they were talking about missing people, was a given.

"No, sorry, that’s actually what has been on my mind lately. All the missing people,” he admitted nervously, wringing his hands and eyes filled with worry.

Taking a deep breath, he continued speaking. “My boss is missing as well. I was on a search patrol looking for him but still didn’t find him,” he admitted, his shoulders dropping. Where could they all be? Just how many people were missing exactly?

At the mention of continuing, he simply nodded. Before he could do anything else, the younger man would offer him a lift. The offer was intriguing, and yet...

It's best not to risk it. It seemed like they would have to get pretty close together unless Beck wanted to fall off because he had nothing to hold on to.

"N-No, that’s ok, I appreciate the offer, but I have Nevermore,” he explained, not bothering to explain who he was talking about before he withdrew Sora back into his pokeball and released a Corviknight from another pokeball.

Once released, he would get himself into the steel birds saddle, the Corviknight having laid down to make it a bit easier for the white-haired man.[break] El Sunderland

Something told him it would be awhile before he could afford one, even if he and his friend set aside money each month. There were bills to pay after all.

“Ye-Yeah, I’ll have to se-see about setting mo-money aside each month,” he explained. Of course, he would need his friends help with that. He wasn’t terrible with math, but his best friend was still better at it than he would ever be.

His gaze flickered briefly to the Zweilous when it showed up. Seeing how Chomper reacted to it, he couldn’t help but chew his lip nervously. So it was to his relief that Andrea would send out a Fuecoco to deal with the problem.

At the mention of Terastallizing, he watched the ensuing battle with curious eyes. That wasn’t a term he was very familiar with. He, of course, knew of mega-evolution, but this was the first time he heard of or saw Terastallizing.

The fact that it could give a Pokémon a whole different type was definitely interesting. The battle wasn’t drawn out, and before too long, Andrea had caught herself a Zweilous. Unsure how to really ask the question on his mind, he glanced at Andrea questionably.[break] Andrea Vaneau

It was like the first few didn’t see the Ice Beam coming and fell very quickly. Each time one fainted, he had to resist flinching. While it was true that he was pursuing the life of a trainer, he still struggled with the idea of hurting Pokemon. He knew, in most cases, that after a bit of healing or rest, they would be fine and that he wasn’t really hurting him. Just that knowledge helped.

While the first few fell quickly, the rest didn’t seem to be keen to do so. Seeing the electric attacks coming towards his Pokémon, he tensed. Luckily, the Steelix managed to disrupt the attacks, keeping Sesi safe while she continued to fire off Ice Beam at the remaining Voltorb.

Soon enough, there was only one Voltorb left. Seeing it begin to glow, his eyes widened, and subconsciously, he moved closer to Sesi. In his haste, he nearly tripped over his feet, making him have to catch his Balance. Blushing, his blush only deepening when the Steelix surrounded the Voltorb to protect them, he situated himself beside Sesi, running his hand through her fur.

His blush had just died down when Elinor started it up again with her praise. “I-It was no-nothing,” he mumbled, refusing to meet her eyes, not that the latter was uncommon with him being shy and all.

“An-Anyway, I really should be going,” he commented, glancing at her briefly. "Anyway, it wa-was nice me-meeting you,” he said as he returned Sesi to her pokeball, replacing her with a Hisuian Braviary who he would immediately mount.

With one last wave, he would take off, flying in the direction of Slatesport and beyond that to Dewford.[break] Elinor Anderson

As focused as he was on getting somewhere safe, he didn’t notice what went down between the two siblings. If he had, he would’ve told the younger man that Sesi wouldn’t hurt a soul. Not unless she thought Beckett or someone he came to care for was in danger.

Sesi, much like her trainer, had a gentle personality. This led to her being the mother type to him and his Pokémon. Of course, since he wasn’t watching them, he couldn’t tell either of them any of this.

Eying the secret base curiously, he would move aside to allow for Gerard to take point. He would’ve offered to do some instead, but Gerard came off as more guarded than he ever would. On the other hand, he would throw himself in front of a Pokémon attack if it meant protecting his Pokémon.

A sound from behind him would draw his attention to the fact that the little girl had managed to get close enough to Sesi to pet her. Sesi, like the well-behaved Ninetales she was, would sit perfectly still as the little girl petted her.

“Sesi is the mother figure of my Pokémon,” he said, keeping an eye on the scene. Not out of fear of Sesi trying anything, but in case the little girl got too cold while petting Sesi. While she wasn’t cold enough to cause pain, Sesi was, of course, a partial ice type, meaning she would be a bit cold to the touch.[break] Gerald Kaiser

He wondered if it was right to lump himself in as a ranger; he wasn’t one after all. Though he supposed, in the long run, it didn’t matter. Not now, at least. What really mattered was keeping these people safe and safely removing the wild Pokémon from the city.

Still, to avoid brushing up against anyone, he would try to take up as little space as he could. considering his height was a bit hard—not that he was really tall, but he was tall enough. It did help that he didn’t have the best eating habits, making him slender enough to get through the crowd of people without touching anyone on his own, at least until the Steelix started to help get people out of the way.

At the question, he eyed Sesi thoughtfully. He had an idea; hopefully it would work. If not, he supposed Elinor would be able to lend a helping hand.

“Sesi, do you think you can rapid-fire an ice beam attack?” he asked the snowy-furred fox.

The fact that the gym leader thought he would make a good fit was a relief. He had thought his aversion to physical contact might cause problems. Not a lot of people would be willing to take on someone with such a debilitating fear. Though he thought the fact that he didn’t have a problem with touching Pokémon probably helped,.

“I will keep an eye out,” he promised, already planning on discussing it with his friend again. His friend had already been supportive of him taking his job if it seemed he would get it, but it was still good to make sure they were still on the same page. That, and if he started working away from home, they would have to figure out who did which task around the house.

As he began to speak, he nodded. Yes, this wasn’t a decision to be taken lightly. They were talking about his life here, and his friend was always telling him that was something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Not that he always made it seem like he valued his own life.

The fact he would be given a few days to think it over was a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. “Thank you; I’ll get back to you with my decision. I probably won’t take too long to come to a decision,” he stated, giving the older male a polite dip of his head, the best he could do to show proper respect since he didn’t like physical contact.

Paradox Pokémon? He couldn’t say he was really familiar with that term. Then again, he was fairly new to the trainer scene.

“I haven’t been a trainer for long, so some of the terms are lost on me,” he admitted. Still, the Pokémon looked like it would be a really powerful Pokémon, maybe even on par with a legendary Pokémon. Just the thought intrigued him, though he knew when it came to Pokémon he collected, the Walking Wake wouldn’t make the cut. He still wanted to focus on flying types, especially if they were bird Pokémon, Vulpix, and Ninetales.

As he began to talk, he nodded along. "Yes, that’s what my phone told me. I’m still not sure why Sora would bring me here. First, that route near Fallarbor is now here,” he said, muttering the last part under his breath. Seriously, if he didn’t know better, he would think Sora was trying to get him more used to the layout of Hoenn by trying to get him lost.

At the mention of having other Pokémon, he nodded. "Yes, I have six Pokémon, though I only brought five with me. I left my Golbat at home; she’s not much for the sun,” he explained, absently stroking Sora.

Decisions. Decisions. He knew what his friend would say if he was here. He would tell him to get out of there. However…

“I think I would like to stick around. My friend did tell me to do something, anything, to get myself out of my head. Maybe a bit of exploring would do that. I like exploring new places,” he explained, keeping his eyes cast downward. It seemed that now that he had recovered from the shock of the near collision, he realized he was talking to someone he didn’t really know, and his shyness was coming back.

“B-But yeah, if you wouldn’t mind, I would like to explore together. On-Only if you want to, of course, but if you’re here for an-another reason, I’m happy to help,” he told them.

After the offer of aid, the teen introduced himself to Beckett. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, El, though I’m afraid I’m not big on physical contact.”

That was an understatement. The unease in the way he said it made it clear it wasn’t just a dislike but a phobia.

He felt terrible about nearly crashing into them. So much for a good first impression. He probably thought he was some kind of crazy person or something.

When the others dismounted, he considered doing so himself. Sora could possibly use some rest after all. Before he could think too much about it, he noticed that the other had a cane, which was surprising considering he seemed to be younger than him. Unless he was older than he appears, no, that couldn’t be right.

“I’m fine; we both are,” he reassured the other, deciding to push all thoughts of what could’ve happened to him to the back of his mind. "Again, I’m very sorry; I should’ve been paying more attention.”

Sora seemed to preen under the praise, and he couldn’t help but chuckle. He and Sora were so different. The bird had so much confidence. While he…

He mentally shook himself before addressing the other once more. "Oh, on my Pokémon's behalf, thank you. His name is Sora, by the way.”

Speaking of nice-looking Pokémon, “You’ve got quite the gorgeous Pokémon yourself. Though I must admit, I’ve never quite seen anything like it,” he admitted, eying the Walking Wake curiously.

It really was quite a curious Pokémon. He wondered where the others would’ve found a Pokémon like that and if there were other people around Hoenn who had Pokémon like it.

The question about why he was in Area Zero would remind him how he had ended up here. “You’re right, I probably don’t belong here,” he said, almost sounding like he meant Hoenn itself instead of just Area Zero. “I decided to go for a fly to clear my head, but it didn’t really end well since I still ended up thinking about the thing I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about. When I came out of my thoughts, I didn’t realize where I was, so I decided to check my map; that’s actually what I was doing when I almost ran into you,” he admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.[break] El Sunderland

The past few days had been spent worrying about everything that was happening in Hoenn. The biggest thing is the missing people. He was so worried that he couldn’t focus and would spend a good bit of his time staring off into the distance, wondering.

It had gotten so bad that his friend had told him to go and do something. Anything. Just as long as he stopped worrying himself to death.

Reluctantly, he would agree. Anything was better than just going through the motions. Which was exactly what he had been doing when it came to work.

Even soaring on the back of Sora couldn’t hold his attention. Just like the past few days, he would find his mind wandering to the predicament Hoenn had found itself in.

Where was everyone? Where were Josh Devlin and the others that went missing? Where could they all be?

As distracted as he was with his own thoughts, he wasn’t paying much attention to where they were heading. It would only be the dropping of the temperature that would pull him away from his thoughts.

Blinking, he looked around only to realize he wasn’t a hundred percent sure where he was. Frowning, he took one hand away from the reigns to put on his glasses so he could look at the phone on his phone.

A sudden trill from Sora would cause him to look up. Seeing the other person before him, he would quickly pull on Sora’s reins, making the Hisuian Braviary come to a short stop.
