“I’m not a very confident person,” he pointed out with a small shrug. In a way, he envied most people. The people he tended to surround himself with were just so confident. And he was not. Of course, most of his issues had to do with his past, not that the older male would know that.

At the mention of how many Pokémon he had, he simply nodded. Of course, he had noticed he had a large number of Pokémon. It was actually pretty impressive how many Pokémon he had.

He supposed that was a good way to look at things. It was a whole lot better than moping around. Not that he could say he knew what that was like; he tried to see the good in a situation himself.

As she spoke about her own Pokemon, he nodded in agreement. “S-Same. I most ad-admit I’ve always felt a bit b-bad about leaving my Pokémon in their pokeballs so much, but wi-with my job as a caretaker at the Mauville g-gym that’s not much of a pr-problem,” he admitted, seeing a bit flustered about his admission about feeling bad about something.

As the conversation continued on about Team Rocket, worry flashed across his expression, and he hunched his shoulders. “I-I-I just don’t know why ev-everyone can’t just get along. D-Deep down, everyone is ju-just the same,” he commented, his expression saddening when he spoke of the conflict between Team Rocket and the League.

It showed that he was a compassionate person through and through. A lot of people would just want Team Rocket to pay for what they had done and wouldn’t try to be civil with them. It was clear that was what the young man wanted, even if he didn’t really say as much.

“I haven’t really in-interacted with Team Rocket members, a-as far as I kn-know, even th-though I’m originally fr-from Team Rocket. St-Still I don’t like th-the thought of all the vi-violence,” he admitted quietly. Seriously, couldn’t they find a way to come to some kind of compromise? His face heated up a bit at the praise. “It was really nothing. I’m pretty adaptable,” he explained, downplaying any kind of achievement he might’ve made like always. Though it wasn’t like he wasn’t telling the truth, he had to learn how to adapt to any situation when he was younger.

It was good to hear he would be discharged soon, but he still felt bad for him. From the way he had spoken upon their first meaning, he could tell how much the older male loved riding Pokémon. Having to give that up, even for a bit, was too hard. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to be as calm about it as he was being.

“That’s terrible. I mean, it’s nice that you’ll be able to get out here,” he pointed out, looking around like he half expected someone to barge through the door and tell him he had to be confined there as well. Resisting the urge to shudder, he turned his attention back to Josh. "Anyway, I can’t really say I envy you for being stuck here. I don’t like being treated at a hospital with physical contact and needles..."

He trailed off briefly before mentally shaking himself. "Still, I’m sure getting your arm back to what it used to be won't last as long as you think,” he said, hoping to make his boss feel better.

“Y-Yes, though I admit that this is th-the first time I’ve h-heard about it. I’ve only ju-just started out as a tr-trainer, so there’s still some th-things I’m learning about,” he admitted, looking down. Admitting his late start with his Pokémon training was definitely making him feel a bit awkward, even though there wasn’t really anything wrong with starting late.

At the mention of her being born in Hoenn, he glanced up at her. “Probably not too un-uncommon not to kn-know everything about wh-where you were born,” he said with a small shrug before continuing. “I was b-born in Kanto, but I never really le-learned much of the folklore s-surrounding Kanto or the neighboring re-region of Johto.”

It was still hard to know that he didn’t know much about the place where he had been born. Then again, due to the way he had been brought up, that was to be expected. Growing up, he hadn’t really had the luxury to study up on the folklore of his home region.

Legendaries were still not a subject he knew very much about, and he was about to admit as much when something out of his peripheral vision caught his attention. Looking to see what caught his attention, he was a bit surprised to see a town. The fact that it hadn’t gotten so close without him noticing was what surprised him.

The dragon type spotted them around the same type, and seeing that it was ready to attack, she released Sisi from her pokeball. The larger-than-average Alonan Ninetales immediately dodged the Razor Wind attack the Noivern attempted before firing off an Ice Beam attack.

Realizing she didn’t notice his look, he debated what he should do. He supposed he could just ask, but what if his question annoyed her? Not everyone wanted to answer questions someone might have, especially if they were questions he should know the answer to. He had a feeling that this was one of these times.

Still, for once, his curiosity was trumping his desire to just stay in the background. To not draw attention to himself. Realizing his curiosity would only get stronger, he decided to risk it.

“U-Ummm… If you d-don't mind me as-asking what you did you ju-just do with your Pokémon, you kn-know the weird thing ov-over their heads. You don’t have to an-answer if you don’t wa-want to, of course,” he said, trying to back out of answering at the end, still a bit worried about coming off as annoying.

Shifting his weight nervously, he looked around, spotting a Pikipek looking for food. It seemed absorbed in what it was doing, so he decided to just leave it be.

At the mention of the ruins he nodded. “Ye-yeah exploring the ruins wo-wouldn’t be a bad idea though like you sa-said all the wild Pokémon are making it hard. At the mention of multiple people missing, he nodded. It was worrying that so many people were missing. Of course, it would still be worrying if only a few people were missing, but with so many people going missing around the same time, it was clear something was afoot.

Had that all been taken hostage or something? If so, who or what could be powerful enough to pull something like this off? So you may instantly think Team Rocket, but Beckett felt this was extreme even for them.

“I sure hope so,” he agreed, the worry evident in his expression.

Luckily, the subject moved away from such depressing talk when he brought out his Corviknight. Upon hearing the question, he shook his head before speaking. “I got it as a gift; actually, a friend of mine traded one of his Pokémon to someone else so I could get this Corviknight,” he explained to the teen.

It had been really nice for his friend to set that trade up for him, knowing just how much he liked flying types, especially bird Pokémon. As if El were readying his mind, he brought it up. Perhaps if Beck were another person, he might have joked about it.

However, since Beckett wasn’t that kind of person, he simply answered his question. “For the most part, I mostly prefer flying types and bird Pokémon, but I also have a soft spot for Vulpix and Ninetales and their regional variants.”

Once he was given permission to enter, he did so. He was half expecting the older male to be laid up in a hospital bed and was both relieved and surprised to see him simply sitting in what appeared to be a comfy chair. That meant he wasn’t too badly hurt, right? From what he could see, he only appeared to have an injured arm.

“It’s no problem, really. I would’ve come sooner, but I’d only just learned that you turned back up,” he admitted.

He did feel a bit bad that he hadn’t been able to come sooner, though considering how much of an anxious person he was, that was probably for the best.

“As for work, it was fine; it was a bit weird knowing you weren’t there, but other than that, it was good. We all made sure to keep the place running smoothly in your absence.”

Usually, he had a pretty easy time when it came to his Pokémon. Sure, he wasn’t super confident in his abilities as a trainer, but at least they usually listened to him. Usually, just the fact that he was someone who needed protection was enough of a reason for his Pokémon to listen to what he had to say.

That was until Prophet anyway. The Xatu just tended to whatever he wanted, not listening to him or his friend. He had found the Xatu injured and had tended to her wounds. After she expressed disinterest in listening to him, he tried refuting her to the wild, thinking perhaps she didn’t want to belong to the trainer; however, she refused to leave, and he had no choice but to take her back home.

Luckily, she wasn’t doing anything bad, just ignoring him. Well, mostly ignore him. Basically, the only time she actually paid attention to him was when he was feeding her or making sure she was groomed; other than that, she wanted nothing to do with him.

To be honest, he wasn’t sure if it was because she was slow to trust humans or if she had picked up on her lack of confidence when it came to battling. Though, considering he had yet to try and battle with her, he wasn’t sure how that could be. Still, it was a thought to consider, so he put out a request for anyone who could help him become a proper trainer.

Surprisingly enough, the day after he put up the response, he got a hit. Apparently, a guy named Thomas Benoit was willing to help him out. After a bit of back and forth, a time to meet up that was good for both of them was made.

So it was a day after work that found him making his way to meet up with Thomas. Prophet was with him because she was not letting him leave the house without her. It was almost like she was paranoid that he was going to try to return her to the wild again, even though he had made no such attempts since the first time he had done so.

Reaching his destination, he was surprised to find himself in front of a ranch. Before he could decide whether or not it was proper for him to head into what seemed to be someone’s property without being properly invited, the Prophet made the decision for him by heading through the archway.

Beckett, not the type to judge, simply nodded like that made perfect since. To the white-haired youth, it probably did. The idea of giving your Pokémon a much-needed bath, especially before an important meeting, didn’t strike him as odd at all.

“Most of my Pokémon aren’t big on cold baths either,” he agreed, trying hard not to be a stuttering mess. Though he was sure, he still came off sounding nervous. There was nothing to be done about that, though; he was generally a meek person.

Upon the introduction, his gaze briefly flickered to the older male’s offered hand. “I-It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, M....Alex. I’m afraid I’m not big on physical contact, but it’s only a problem with people, not Pokémon,” he explained, dipping his head to the other male.

“Anyway, my name’s Beckett, but feel free to call me Beck.”

His own introduction was a bit rushed, as if to dispel any awkwardness his earlier reaction might have brought up. Hopefully the gym leader would just roll with it and the conversation would just move along.

At the question, he tried not to come across as too eager, but he still perked up. “I’ve always loved flying types; I'm fascinated by them, especially if they’re bird Pokémon. I’ve learned a great deal about caring about flying types, including how to properly exercise them. I tend to think of my Pokémon not just as Pokémon but as family, and I treat them as such. My Pokémon mean everything to me.”

Hopefully, that would answer his question. Considering how he had been brought up, he had trouble socializing. This also meant that he had trouble putting his thoughts into words or tended to ramble, probably due to nervous energy.

Instantly, he would follow after the others, quite eager to see what the sanctuary looked like. Upon seeing the whole sanctuary laid out before him for the first time, his eyes widened. The way he seemed to take everything in was like that of a kid in a candy shop.

It took a few minutes for him to note the fact that there were Pokémon outside of flying types out and about. This caused him to send the older male a questioning look. “You also keep around Pokémon that aren’t flying types?” he asked, immediately dropping his gaze.[break] Alexei Ivanov

The dragonite approached until he was close, but made sure to still maintain a respectable distance between them. At the greeting, Druk would let out his own greeting, which would pique the curiosity of Tuca the Toucannon. However, with Tuca being less outgoing, Druk would still hang back instead, choosing to watch the two from a distance.

As for his other Pokémon, they would continue to play around in the water. They seemed to take special interest in splashing each other with water. Aside from Sesi, of course, who remained by her trainer's side,.

At the end, his face would heat up, and he would awkwardly rub the back of his neck. “I d-do try. I like to make sure m-my Pokémon are cared for. I take ca-care of my Pokémon be-better than I do myself,” he explained, feeling like he needed to put it out there that he put his own Pokémon before himself. Though that did earn him a stern look from Sesi, apparently the Alolan Ninetales didn’t think he took care of himself enough.

Either not noticing the look or choosing to ignore it, he would allow the conversation to move on. At the question, he had to stop and think. “I’m not s-sure; I’ve been here for around ei-eight years, but with everything going on wi-with Team Rocket, I’ve only just no-now felt it was safe en-enough to explore.
