JASON HAUNG
Jason's a man that was raised from birth to serve as the head of a small-time crime family, so what happens when that particular rug gets pulled out from under him? Everything he's worked towards, the thing that the most important people in his life have been raising him for, just gone in an instant; what's a man to do when his primary reason for being is stripped away from him? Well, there's a little bit of relief of being freed of that kind of responsibility, but then it's mostly just a whirlwind of anxiety as Jason tries to find his footing after the fallout. Not to mention there's a little bit of baggage to deal with when he realized that his own flesh and blood sold his family out in the first place.
Goals for Jason's characterization include exploring his journey to find purpose now that his life has been more or less upended, as well as to generally get more of a feel for his character.
He takes some degree of inspiration from his FC, Zhao Tianyou, and to a lesser extent, Eric Tomizawa of the Like a Dragon franchise.
PERSONALITY TRAITS Jason is very conscientious about the way he presents himself. As such, he often comes across as laid-back and friendly, and even a little playful towards someone who's piqued his interest. It's not particularly hard for him either, as he's already pretty extroverted to begin with. Just beneath that, though, one might be surprised to discover just how disciplined Jason can actually be; he may sometimes act the fool, but when it's time to get down to business he can be quite dependable and serious. He's also pretty good at reading people; not to any kind of extraordinary extent, but it is a skill he's honed for the purpose of maintaining/establishing working relationships. If he can discern who he's dealing with, he can mold himself into whoever they need him to be.
On the other hand, Jason is always keeping people an arm's length away from him. He's friendly, but he's also deeply mistrustful of others; the pleasantries are always surface-level, and it can be difficult to discern how he actually thinks and feels. As such, Jason himself is always wary of the true intentions of others around him; he just expects people to be dishonest about themselves. He also wholeheartedly believes that those around him are only operating with their own interests at heart, so Jason is always subconsciously preparing himself for the moment the next betrayal happens. He can also come across as vain, especially with regards to his appearance and his selection of Pokemon, but as far as he's concerned, how you appear to others can be just as (if not more) important than who you are underneath. And finally, he's a little out of touch with who he is beneath the barriers he puts up to keep others from getting too close and the affectations he puts on to make himself more pleasing to his cohorts. It kinda haunts Jason, sometimes, that it feels like he spends more time performing for others than being an authentic person.
MOTIVATIONSNO REST FOR THE WICKED: There's only one thing Jason thinks he's any good at, and that's poaching Pokemon. With a knowledge of Pokemon behavior and experience subduing even the most restless creatures, he plans on putting those skills to use to support himself in a new region.
