What if someone came into the desert and saw his bones being picked clean next time, instead of a buzzwole?

He was snapped from his thoughts as something began to gnaw at his ankle. There were no teeth, rather just gums biting as hard as they could around him. Montgomery cursed, lifting his leg to shake the shuckle off.

"Ya little piece a shit! Why, I otta-"

Montgomery cut off as something caught his attention. A figure appeared in the sand, curved, feminine, and all too familiar. He looked through the blinding light, saying...

"Ameena?"

howard slayte was every present, even now. He scowled, spitting on the ground.

"I should be fine with 'em. Bring them out."

He'd try to prepare while Josh went ahead and created a trap of sorts. However, another rustling noise emitted from nearby. And when Montgomery turned, he spotted-

Hoards of people. Most of them donned bullet holes, oozing blood down their faces, their clothes, onto the ground. They were pale and decayed. And they all pointed at him.

"Murderer."

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery's skarmory flew forward, squawking in alarm as his trainer attacked Howard. He growled angrily when Shirley charged forward, lunging to block her attack.

Even with his trainer under the hypnosis, loyalty burned deep in the steel bird.

He was able to fend Shirley off, giving Howard time to slam his foot against the wall. Emerging from a shadow, a sigilyph appeared, flapping its wings angrily.

A dreadful feeling filled the cave. It released a hold of Montgomery, instead, aiming to hypnotize Howard.

He was ever the worker. He stepped forward, speaking over his shoulder as he led the way further into foothill town.

"Montgomery. Nice to meet ya."

He approached one of the barren homes first, looking around the opening. There was no one inside, and there was hardly any proof of anyone having lived there. The building itself was old and decrepit.

Oh, if he could just punt that thing across the desert, like a ball...

Instead, he kept up at Clover's nine, wrinkling his nose as the buzzwole corpse appeared. It reeked of rot. The mandibuzz didn't seem to mind.

"If somethin' could take down an ultra beast like that, we're mighty fucked here."

Still, he had a mission he needed to accomplish. On the ground, he spotted several lines carved through the sand. durant trail, perhaps?

"Let's follow that 'n see where it goes."

Montgomery tossed the ball, capturing the ghost. Once his last ball was used, a horn sounded and alerted him that his time in the safari zone had now ended.

To the side, he followed it's siren call through the darkness. Because in the cave, he could hear cries for help.

"I'm comin'..." he muttered. "Ma... I'm comin'..."

The walls dampened the sound of his voice.

There were footsteps from behind. Montgomery whipped around, seeing howard slayte approach. But he didn't look like him, not in his hay mind. He was another criminal, coming to take advantage of his family.

Another one to bite the dust.

"Fuck outta here!" he shouted, throwing a punch at Howard.

His garchomp would be faster at getting them out than his own bare hands. She was thrown out, immediately delving into the sand with her claws and disappearing below.

Even he clawed at the ground as quickly as he could in some desperate attempt to save Clove's life. Looking at the shuckle, he growled.

"Would ya do something useful?"

Montgomery was growing antsy. They needed to move on, find a place that wasn't as badly poisoned or a way out. Dillydallying would prove fatal.

"Might I recommend that we, I dunno... move along?" He attempted to keep his voice even and calm, but there was a small bite of annoyance in it as he began to cough again.

He did end up listening to Yuina Higashi. Beside him, his ninjask buzzed. He emitted an absorbing energy that helped his cough, if only for a moment.

"C'mon, ladies."
