Clover really wanted to see a mega-giant stakataka. When Howard finished, she rose to her feet and dusted herself off. "Well, what are we waiting for? We should put your field to work, and maybe your Stakataka too, if it likes to sightsee. Your thing is fossils, yeah? What kinds do you think we can find here?" They really wanted to explore the area and see what was going on. Since the storm on the horizon wasn't at them yet, there was still some time to take advantage of the odd, unbelonging world. [break][break]

Archen cawed in support of the idea. "I could always use a friend for him, if there are little, um, feather fossils? Around?" They rubbed at his head, which the bird cooed at. "My dad likes fossils and stuff, got me into rocks. He also helped me with this lost little Archen. We found some remnants of his fossil in Fallarbor, but we don't know who actually revived him." And who could abandon such a cute face?

Tamato berries were spicy and dry. It was an acquired taste, but taillows had acquired it. The city had put out a warning for trainers to avoid feeding or interacting with the taillows. They could get aggressive and would even try to steal the backpacks from travelers to check for the fruit. [break][break]

Unfortunately, it was harvest season for Lavaridge's Tamato orchard. For every KO'd or otherwise subdued taillow turned in, the orchard paid handsomely. Naturally, Clover find themselves fending off trees from taillows for the sweet reward of cash. "Keep going," she urged Oricorio, who used teeter dance to confuse a taillow that had been leering at her.

"That could be fun!" They would get a lot out of a practice battle. It wasn't like they had a lot of opportunity to fight against other trainers since her friends at home didn't really own pokemon like that and didn't care for the culture of battling that Hoenn was filled with. But there were important skills involved that she needed to develop for her own well-being and survival. [break][break]

They flinched backwards at the Rotom's appearance, feeling nervous, but the Rotom seemed relaxed enough. "Oh, well if it doesn't always shock outside of tech then that's not so bad." It's possession of technology was super interesting, but he wasn't sure it was his thing. But having your own tech support at hand was surely beneficial. [break][break]

"Your Rotom seems- hey!" Their peripheral vision suggested Archen was in trouble. It was readily confirmed as her bird was struggling in the mouth of the Mawile's external maw. "Oh, no you don't!" She got in close and stuffed her foot onto the bottom of the mouth, her hands lifting the upper jaw. Archen flew out and Clover removed herself before it could snap closed on her. The mouth flicked up to try and chase Clover, so he tossed a pokeball defensively to keep it down. [break][break]

A little out of breath, he said, "this place is kind of crazy, but at least there seems to be no war movement out here."

He sounded so sure. But it didn't sound possible. Still, the odd weather in the horizon and the rare pokemon left them inclined to believe that there was something wrong with the area... but could its existence itself be the anomaly? [break][break]

There is something here that I once sought... She hummed thoughtfully. "Like a bigger Stakataka?" Maybe there was like an alpha out here. She wasn't sure there was much else, though she saw something spindly in the distance with a spiky-electric head, and she had little interest in seeing that thing. She poked at the dirt by her feet, curious to see how different it was from that that filled the outside world. [break][break]

A small shard embedded itself in her finger. She flinched, investigated, and saw that it was like glass. But it was unnaturally warm and filled with energy not unlike an evolution stone. "This place is weird, but what could have made it, like, accessible? Are we actually entering another world when we step through the rift?" How was this not blasted on the news every night? It sounded so impossible, she wasn't sure why every scientist wasn't working on it day and night.

He grinned at Hitoshi's question and chirped, "a few days!" But it was only to lighten the heavy mood. "I've got a few months under my belt," she said more seriously, "but some of the formalities have only happened recently like my formal recruitment with Tempest Quinn." Hell of a guy to choose for the job, too, since they were both Hoyeon. It felt like a good sign to have someone inside that was, in a roundabout way, her family.[break][break]

Some of the grunts around them had dispersed to another group after Zev offered to turn them into weapons. They weren't sure about being likened to an object, but strength was necessary for what was coming. She didn't want to be someone who had things happen to them. She couldn't accept the passivity any longer. [break][break]

"Let's go be weapons, yeah?" She nudged him with a demeanor too pleasant for the setting.

He beams at Hitoshi. "Only one tattoo," he confirms for himself, pulling his button-up off to show the Torterra lineage tattoo representing his Hoyeon bloodline. It sits between their shoulderblades, though not all of it can be seen because of their tank top. "I wouldn't mind going to Johto for something like that, though." Hitoshi's tattoo is gorgeous, though they can't imagine how many hours it took to complete. [break][break]

They sober as Hitoshi makes the call: they're going to investigate. She grabs her pokeballs and follows him to see... wait, she knows this one's name. Greyson Connors. "Surrender," She asks incredulously before she can stop herself, "in our own cave?" Seems kinda rude to go somewhere and tell the people there to give up. Sounded a whole lot like the colonization her people faced so long ago, though there hadn't been any asking. She sends out Archen who flies foward with a dragon claw.

She can't keep the awe out of her voice at the Arcanine's fiery addition to the hurricane, generating blazing winds. "Woah, that's awesome..." It gives them a few ideas for how to rouse up trouble quickly. A few well-timed attacks that can join together like that and, well, she'd have a catastrophe at her hands. [break][break]

But Wo-Chien is a hard mountain to move and it creates a shield that discourages physical contact. "This thing can really hang on." She hadn't expected it to tank so many hard-hitting strikes. "Scramble its thoughts," they instruct. Oricorio uses teeter dance to confuse the ruinous pokemon and widen the opening for a strike.

Clover considered his words. The idea of them being benevolent was interesting. They were supposed to cast judgement, she was sure. They served specific purposes when they came to walk the earth with the rest of them. She wasn't sure they were meant to help so closely. "So, why would there be legendary pokemon backing both sides of the conflict?" She didn't ask to be difficult. Rather, she hoped he had some special insight or some angle she had yet to consider. [break][break]

But these other pokemon were not important to them, not like nature's giants were. "I think my childhood dream was to restore the land. The big cities here... they're so wasteful. So removed from nature." They were over-developed. It didn't sit right with her. "I would like to see more developments live in harmony with nature like Pacifidlog."

His interest was piqued at the idea of having a Pyroar for himself, but he tried to avoid feline pokemon for the sake of his team's comfort; Oricorio enjoyed playfulness over everything, but Archen was distrusting of most things with claws sharper than its own. "I should work on finding more fire types. They'll remind me of home." A blessing and a curse, they supposed. Their family was all about ground and fire pokemon given their sect and their proximity to volcanoes in Fallarbor. [break][break]

They felt a pang of sympathy at what Josh said. Pain shared was pain divided, his family had always said. He stretched open his arms in invitation. "You don't have to talk about it. I can see that you've been working through it. Can I hug you?" Clover knew there was more individualism in Hoenn's predominant culture than they were used to as a Hoyeon, so they felt it prudent to offer comfort. "I can tell you take good care of your pokemon, by the way. My family, they bond for life with their partners and don't use capture capsules. Your pride would stand by you with the same loyalty." It was clear to see.

Ultra Beasts didn't belong in their world... anomalies... "So, how are they here?" This world isn't meant for you or me, so the life left behind is a mockery. How could that be true? Earth Mother created their world with the help of Her Sisters. She sat at his prompting, making herself comfortable on a rock. They were completely invested in this, now. They'd gotten the impression that Howard was shooting straight with them so far. [break][break]

And the Stakataka had barely looked like a pokemon at all. She felt a twinge of homesickness as she prepared to listen to the story. Her entire life had been listening to stories from her community members to learn how the world was created and how to walk through life as a Hoyeon. This was yet another learning opportunity.

He did what he could to make himself smaller underneath Howard as the rocks fell. The admin's quick reaction and Crumble's skillset protected him from bruising like an oran. "Is - is the wall alive?" They peered between their fingers just in time to see his pokeball consume the Stakataka. Clover held their breath without thinking about, watching the ball shake once, twice, then still. [break][break]

"That's really a pokemon?" She hadn't seen it before. Hell, she had barely made herself familiar with other unnatural pokemon like Rotom and Revaroom, which really seemed strange. She scrambled to her feet but didn't get closer to the pokeball in case the Stakataka somehow broke out. "Why is that thing here?" Now that they looked at it, it stood out a bit from the environment, though the dust that covered it went a long way to helping it blend in.

Howard's suggestion that Clover would be a juvenile delinquent is offensive, except it's also totally correct. But they weren't a rulebreaker for the hell of it. He had turned against his Sachem's philosophy and will by pursuing Rocket, but it had all been for the larger cause. He was positive Maili's direction was going to allow Hoenn to face ruin. Similarly, coming here was going to offer them some enlightenment. They were sure of it. [break][break]

And they perked up at the mention of a fellow Hoyeon, but then dozen eyes appeared on the wall before them. "What the heck is -" [break][break]

The weight of the world grows tenfold. Her legs buckle and bring her chest to the ground, pressed hard. It feels impossible to breathe. Archen is grounded by the force of it, though he uses TAILWIND to soar into the air once more. It clearly strains him, but he summons a ROCK SLIDE to force the wall of Unown to fissure and split.
