"Sea Sister hates me." There was no other explanation. They had dived down so many times that they were positive their hair would be permanently wrung in salt. Still, the Clamperl was nearly in reach. They were positive they would end up quitting just before getting one, so they had to avoid quitting. The pokemon was not normally one to garner their attention, but this was about winning. He believed he could win this competition like the handful of others who'd caught one.

They were so close to making it on the leaderboard. He could almost taste it. The glory, the fame... It was right there. He focused up on his Mantine and took a deep breath. One more of the same trip and he was set. He'd done it twice already; a third would cinch the win. "Here goes nothing," they muttered. One more twist.

Minior in pocket, Clover made her way back to the entrance/exit of the safari. She pulled out an oran berry to snack on. Before she made it out, though, a Popplio blocked her path. She went to walk around it, but it used baby doll eyes and... well, Clover was only human. And it was so cute. They sighed. Maybe one more baby from the safari wouldn't hurt. They had lots of pokemon to give attention to but she couldn't help but want this one now, too. She shared the oran berry and marched out of the safari with a new haul.

It looked like she was sobering up a bit from the teetering dance, which was a relief. Clover was pleased to see she had brought an electric type to strike at the birds. "Well, if you help me get a payday, we can string up these hungry birds and, um... let's say we hit up a diner to celebrate?" Their stomach rumbled at the thought. "And maybe we take a few berries for the road." The harvest was generous and overflowing the orchard, so the owners wouldn't miss a few berries.

Any plan was better than no plan. "Sounds good." She nodded her confirmation and then opened the window all the way up, jumping in without further hesitation. She released Archen, who used u-turn to dash forward and pick up the Darmanitan in his claws, dragging it backwards and towards Clover and Kepler before returning to his pokeball. [break][break]

The sudden intrusion got the attention of the swarm of Darmanitan, which Clover didn't even try to address. "I'm getting the hell outta here before they burn the place down," she said, clutching the Darmanitan which still held the briefcase and jumping back out the window. "Just keep 'em from popping out the warehouse and we can make a run for it!"

Scatterbug wasn't too trusting, but then the Combee retrieved the berry for her. [break][break]

"Sca-sca-scatterbug, bug!" You can have my firstborn. This is the greatest gift I've ever been given. [break][break]

Her eyes were filled with affection as she darted forward and started munching on the delicious sour fruit. She did a little dance from side to side as she ate it. "Sca-scatter?" You don't eat berries at all?

Well. He was right that they were smelly. Darmanitan kinda sucked. [break][break]

"...Alright." If he was looking for something else, she figured collaboration was the best route. She preferred working in teams anyhow. "I've got flying types. Archen, Oricorio, Tropius. What are you running with?" She turned from him back to the window - and gasped. [break][break]

Her shiny Darmanitan was wielding some briefcase it'd picked up from somewhere in the warehouse and was dancing around with it. "That's my fella," she said with excitement. "I gotta get that guy so I can get the hell outta here."

Scatterbug wasn't expecting the Combee to be anything other than terrified at her display of strength with her scattering. She took a step back at the Combee's interest. [break][break]

"Sca-sca!" It tastes like it's mine! Back off!" [break][break]

She knew she'd get in trouble for fighting at the daycare and Clover would be mad. Still, she was hungry. And eating would help her get stronger. "Sc-scatter!" I'll fight you! But just then, a fat, juicy pecha berry fell from the tree, just behind the Combee... and Scatterbug felt her mouth watering at the sight.

Clover's worry wasn't quite abated by the newcomer's response. "Sorry about that," she insisted. "Ori gets really into her dances, and I do, too." Her eyes widened as the Taillow grew closer - though the dizzy trainer's rock throw scared 'em off. But then, Clover was a little confused. "Statler and huh?"[break][break]

Their questions were interrupted by the low swoop of a large Taillow. "These guys act like they've never eaten before!" Clover was beyond exasperated. She wasn't sure why these stupid birds wanted the stupid berries so badly. "Ori, hit 'em, please." The bird flew up to chase the large Taillow and nail it with a pound. [break][break]

Meanwhile, an epiphany struck. "Are you here to knock out the Taillow population for the harvest?" They could work together and really tackle the population to maximize the monetary reward.

Attentiveness was not her strong suit, apparently. She flinched at the sound of a new voice. And she did a terrible job of hiding it. "Uh, well, uh. Yeah. Yeah, I'm looking at the Darmanitan." Was he here for a shiny? She didn't want to compete. Her bosses demanded it of her and she was just a grunt. "It's nothing interesting," she insisted. How could she dissuade him from copping a shiny? "I heard the warehouse is abandoned because. Uh. Toxic waste." Toxic waste? Ugh. She needed to take a class on lying. This was not the first time this week she'd failed to make a persuasive case.

Scatterbug flinched in surprise at the hovering Combee. Instinctively, she scattered her scaley bits to ward off the predator. Then, she realized the bee was no predator at all. The protectiveness of food was a core instinct for the small bug who often had to compete with larger bugs until they were captured by Clover. "Sca, scatter!" Keep to your own, she warned as she returned to munching a leaf, eyeing the bee conspiratorially.

Clover was so invested in watching Oricorio dance that they didn't notice the sound of footsteps until a stranger was caught up in Oricorio's dance. The bird's teetering was intended for other pokemon, but it could easily confuse others - Clover was just too used to it. "Oh, Ori, stop! Stop!" Oricorio paused, turning her head to the side in clear confusion herself. "I am so sorry, are you OK?" Their concern was clear to see. "That was totally for the Taillow, but I should've been paying attention to foot traffic." [break][break]

The last thing they wanted was an angry trainer on their hands when they wanted a quick in-and-out job.

Clover tucked the Minior in his pocket as he walked beside Tropius. He had some excess energy to work off after the adrenaline rush of the explosion. He did take an opportunity to use his phone to record the Trapinch digging around the path in front of him. It was creating a lot of holes in the ground that seemed unnecessary, but she figured it was doing it to look for something in the ground. Digging didn't seem like a recreational activity for the Trapinch. She shrugged as she walked past it, hoping it found whatever it sought.

"Well." Clover looked at Psyduck with a forced neutral expression. "No Clamperl." The duck moved its head from one side to the other, portraying no emotion other than confusion. "This time, though? We get lucky." He spoke it into existence. Psyduck expressed no form of agreement. Par for the course. "OK, watch me get it this time." They dove underneath the surface with no further ado.

Clover felt some strange bulb on Tropius as they embraced. She pulled back and reached for it with alarm. It wasn't some odd growth, though. It was a rock.[break][break]

A sentient rock? It moved in their hands. It rolled over and revealed a face. "Oh, you're literally a pokemon," they said. The Minior said nothing in response. "That is so crazy." It did not argue. "Um. Well. We're already here, y'know, so you might as well come back with me." The Minior looked, if anything, a bit sleepy. Clover couldn't blame it at all.
