Much as his trainer tried to reassure him, Aurelian had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Most male Kirlia became Gallade, and he felt that his evolution into Gardevoir invited judgement upon him from others. It wouldn't be the first time someone mistook him for a girl. It's fine. He wasn't offended. He's over it.[break][break]

Modelling feels like an exercise in humiliation. With his struggling self-confidence, what had Florian been thinking signing him up for this? He's on edge the entire time as he waits for his turn, but seeing the other Pokemon go before him is somewhat reassuring. (Except for the Gallade. That just makes him feel worse. Thank goodness they went first.)[break][break]

When it's finally his turn, the Gardevoir refuses to be outdone. He turns on his charm for the audience and the cameras, and he walks that runway as if he was born for it. When it comes time for him to pose, he takes a dramatic pause and uses double team to create the illusion that there were suddenly three Gardevoir on stage, twirling in unison and ending with a dramatic bow.[break][break]

Take that, competition.[break][break]

He feels a little better about himself once he comes down off the runway, but there's no way he's letting Florian know that he was right.

Florian shakes his head, sending loose blond bangs into his eyes. He swipes them back. "Oh, I'm not looking for anything in particular, I just really love expanding my collection. Mostly I look for books on fairy-types, though, or Pokemon habitats and the like. I really ought to do some more research on Hoenn specifically..."[break][break]

He trails off for a moment, distracted, and then jumps a little at the sound of the bell. Playing it off with an easy laugh, he stands up from the table (disrupting Joli, who hops from his lap with a disgruntled chirp) and offers Marcel a friendly grin.[break][break]

"I will be sure to look up your store and drop by, Kosuke! Enjoy your evening!"

Florian remembers the blue-furred Meowstic as troublesome from his last venture into the safari, but this one seems disinterested in the trainers. It's curled up on a rock and basking in the sun, opening one eye to observe them as they pass and yawning.[break][break]

Yawns are contagious, of course, and Florian's jaw cracks with the force of his own. It was the middle of the day! No way he was falling asleep just yet![break][break]

Joli, of course, drops right off to sleep. The professor sighs and picks up his Sylveon, resolving to carry him until he comes round.

Though his Rapidash was normally a rather proud, aloof creature, it seems to bear a certain fondness for members of its own kind. As the Ponyta prances around in an attempt to entice her to play, Laverre scuffs the sand with her hoof and suddenly takes off in a light canter, tossing her head as if to indicate the Ponyta should give chase.[break][break]

"I have never seen her play before," Florian admits, fascinated. "How precious!"[break][break]

With a similar disinterest in the fish, he nods his head at the question. "Oh, yes, I like to go exploring with my darlings as much as I can. Lisette has been enjoying the colder winter." He nods to the Frosmoth.

"You are new as well?" It's nice to talk to someone that understands the struggles of moving to a new region. He's still self-conscious about his handle on the language, not to mention his heavy accent. "Where did you live before? If it's OK to ask!"[break][break]

As a relatively open person, at least on the surface level, Florian often had to remind himself that others liked to keep things private.[break][break]

He nearly trips over a Crustle when it suddenly emerges from the sand, stumbling around it in surprise and mouthing apologies to the poor crab.
