Bailey knew what to do with her free time. Her bike rumbled with each twist of the throttle as she navigated through the tight spaces of the Lower District.[break][break]

As another day came to a close, the officer was not ready to let it end. As night graced the skies and her shift ended, she refused to return to another empty motel room. She would drag it out; the day could end when the sun would grace the shoreline of Slateport's empty beaches. Then, only then, would she call it a quits.[break][break]

The bar was crowded. She parked in her usual spot, dismounting from her motorcycle as the engine released its death rattle. The keys were tucked into her jacket, her ID was shown, and she was ushered into a tight space that smelled of smoke and mistakes; Bailey felt at peace.[break][break]

“Rum and coke,” was her greeting to the bartender as she sat at one of the available stools. If the world was going to do her in, then she wanted to greet it with a drink.[break][break]

The drink met her hands. “Thanks,” and she took the first sip, trying to mind her own business as the man next her waxed down the rest of his scotch.

She had pulled out her cell phone. The moment the Gengar appeared, all tension had vanished into thin air–Bailey thought it was similar to a bad horror movie. The moment the veil of secrecy was gone, there was nothing left to keep her invested. The battle might have been interesting, but it was no different from any other. [break][break]

“They got insurance,” they were in Mauville Hills, after all. Everyone had money out here. Meowstic continued to utilize the door as her weapon of choice, swatting at the Ghost-Type between Gaea's onslaught.[break][break]

She hummed in agreement with his question, flashing her phone screen towards him; her mind had already transitioned away from the mission. “Pancham Express?” or they could just get the usual. “Pff. I'll blame it on the ghost.” That was followed by the sound of splintering wood as the Meowstic snapped the frame in half from repeated abuse.[break][break]

“I mean, it did break it... with its face.” So, she wasn't being dishonest.

“Wait, what?” What did he say? She couldn't hear his comment over all of the moaning.[break][break]

The appearance of the Gengar derailed the conversation. Bailey did not have the chance to ask him to repeat himself–it was time to battle. As his Dragonaire deployed safeguard, her Meowstic followed with light screen to further reduce any incoming damage. The shadow ball may have struck Gaea, but the power of the attack was dampened.[break][break]

She followed up with Psychic, letting the Gengar get distracted with the Dragon before using her surroundings to her advantage. A door was suddenly ripped from its hinges, glowing with an energy that would be tangible to the floating ghost, that suddenly slammed against its side shortly after it took damage from the aqua tail. “Keep it going,” Bailey encouraged.[break][break]

Slowly, she released her grip and returned her hands back to her pockets, wondering if she could play it off. The battle would draw to a close. Two against one were unfair odds. Oh well. Sucked to be the Gengar.

A voice spoke into her ear-piece, signaling that it was time to strike.[break][break]

She swung both arms upward, deploying her capsules high to the sky. The red and white shapes of her pokeballs shined in the low light of the late evening. From those pokeballs came the familiar crack of release, followed by the red light as her pokemon were deployed. Three. Kommo-o. Togekiss. Scoliopeed. They lined by Bailey's side.[break][break]

It would only take one word to call them to action.[break][break]

They were outside the building, situated by the far left side, as they waited for the battle to begin. It would be her job to interfere, should an escape attempt be made. A sly, devious smile pulled at her lips. Finally, she was doing something cool. Slowly, she inched to the edge, peering around the corner to see how this would unfold.[break][break]

The fight was over.[break][break]

Kapow dismounted from the Regirock as the overgrown legendary began to glow. The dragon knew what explosion looked like–he did not want to see how much destruction that attack could cause. Still empowered by Dragon's Dance, he charged to join the others as they fled... and he grabbed those that were too slow. Tiny humans and their puny legs were easily swept into his arms if he noticed they were struggling to escape–which could have been terrifying, considering he was a dragon.[break][break]

He snagged Niklaus Lagusa to save Light from posting... along with several explorers who had wasted time screaming when the Regirock prepared its self-destruction (or anyone else that was just not feeling up to posting idk). He joined Bailey's side with his arms full, to which Bailey replied, “Put those down! They aren't yours!” He refused.[break][break]

Bailey had to pick up the pace, hoping that they still had enough time to get away. Tink was able to assist them up through the hole they had fallen through, back through the tunnel with the morelulls... and the light of the entrance was her one beacon of hope.[break][break]

notes: kapow kidnaps Niklaus Lagusa and several explorers that were being dumb (and someone else I guess?? just say so). The kommo-o follows bailey as she makes her escape with DANIEL WALKER

“Can you blame me?” Bailey retorted to Daniel's teasing, trying to distract herself from the downward drop. The mental image of her falling through the elevator shaft and splattering against the roof of the elevator refused to leave her mind. Maybe she should have brought her Togekiss with her?[break][break]

Hindsight was a bitch.[break][break]

The cold gush of air came as a surprise. It was the same as prying open the door to a fridge–it was not natural. Bailey Cooper was no expert on Ghost-Types, but this had supernatural written all over it. “I won't,” She promised as she accepted Daniel's outstretched hand. The faster they could end this, the better.[break][break]

The moment her feet stepped onto solid ground, Bailey felt better–it was a shame that the moaning had to ruin it. “Wasn't me,” she bluntly replied, trying to ignore how eerie the sound was.[break][break]

Despite her efforts to seem unfazed, her hand grasped at Daniel's forearm, betraying the... well.... creepy feeling that she felt. Her next action was to reach a hand toward her belt, snapping off one of the capsules. While Bailey had come ill-prepared for the mission, there had been one thing that she had remembered to take with her...[break][break]

Her Meowstic. With a click, the white psychic type was roused from her slumber and into the cold hallway.

As Bailey finally reached the top of the pass–half dead and borderline delirious from the walk–she had no energy left to muster.[break][break]

A Meowstic crossed her path. The psychic pokemon meowed, flexing her claws, expressing a desire to battle the exhausted cadet. Bailey had no time for that shit. Feeling like she was moments away from barfing, Bailey wobbled to the closest rock to lean against as she chucked one of her pokeballs.[break][break]

The capsule shook. Once. Twice.

She had been so close. DANIEL WALKER was almost within her reach. All she had to do was stretch her arm a little farther–[break][break]

As their fingertips brushed, Bailey could not react to the flying rock that had suddenly collided against her partner. There was nothing that she could have done–it had happened too fast for her to perceive. The flash of gray that had crossed her vision had been the projectile–it had barely avoided her own head.[break][break]

It was only when his body was wrenched from her grasp that she comprehended what had happened; a wave of dread washed over her as she stood in a stunned silence. Had... had he–?[break][break]

She ran. “Don't be dead, please don't be–” and she skidded to the ground, right by her partner's side. He had survived, but her eyes were unable to drift toward his injured limb. The League had offered medical training to cadets–Bailey had barely passed. In her panic, all of that information seemed to float straight out of her mind. “You'll be okay. We'll get you to a hospital.”[break][break]

She had prayed that they could have come out of this okay. Her hands wrapped around him, careful to avoid the damaged arm, as she tried to help him sit upright. He said he could not feel the limb. What did that mean? Shock?[break][break]

The ground quaked as the Regirock collapsed. Kommo stayed latched to the legendary, continuing the endless barrage of punches. Smoke drifted up from his scales as he sacrificed more and more of his durability to put the legendary out of its misery.[break][break]

Tink returned to Bailey's side. “We'll get you out of here,” they just had to wait on his pokemon to return.[break][break]

It was a disaster.[break][break]

From behind cover, Bailey mustered the nerve to raise her head and watch the destruction as it unfolded; her eyes frantically searched for her pokemon, watching as others were struck down by the might of the Regirock. It was going to be a slaughter–her eyes tried to not linger. Panic had already seized her chest. Tink and Kapow... were they okay? And when she does see them, her heart could have soared with relief. They dodged beautifully. They were safe.[break][break]

And they could still hear her. They looked in her direction, trying to see her through the roaring sands, waiting for her call.[break][break]

“GET 'EM!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, finding the confidence to stand upright. The rocks that had fallen in her direction failed to reach their mark; the slope of rock had protected her from harm. While others ran for cover, she was already secure. It was then that her eyes spied DANIEL WALKER 's pokemon, revealed to know that they had also avoided the devastation. Her partner was still behind cover, wasn't he? Was he okay–?[break][break]

Her eyes strayed, watching as he made a mad dash towards her position. His position had not been safe. He had not been so lucky. “Oh no–” and she ran to him. Whatever it was that drove him from cover, she seemed to sense that he would not be fast enough to reach her in time. Maybe it was his injuries. Maybe it was because he had staggered. It did not matter. She ran. With a hand outstretched, she grabbed her partner by his forearm and yanked, trying to assist him to cover, to somewhere safe where the rocks or the stalactites could not reach. “I got you!”[break][break]

In all of the pandemonium, the fight had seemed to shift. Everyone was busy trying to avoid certain doom–Tink and Kapow, having avoided it, had the only chance to counterattack. Tink summoned more Aura Spheres... and Kapow struggled to climb beyond the crack in the Regirock's leg. Something had to be done. This fight had to end; now.[break][break]

And after those moves were executed, she used the last of her dwindling stamina on extreme speed–not at the Regirock, but towards Kapow. The dragon, recognizing what was happening, jumped from her perch and latched to the flying type as she flew him higher and higher, out of sight of the legendary as they spiraled tight and close to its body... and onto its shoulder.[break][break]

And when Kapow landed, he lunged. With his fists burning, he charged to the side of the Regirock's head and unleashed his fists in a blind, desperate furry. He was going to do his damnedest to knock it unconscious–before it could unleash another hyper beam. Before any more casualties were taken. They had to take advantage of this window before the legendary could recharge.[break][break]

Close Combat. Close Combat. Close Combat.[break][break]

In his mind, it was like he could hear Bailey mutter the words that he could not say; get fucked.[break][break]

Kapow uses Close Combat three times.[break]

notes: bailey tries to save daniel from his bad rolls. tink and kapow, after only dodging in my previous post, keep the fight going. togekiss uses two air slashes like last time, trying to flinch the dumbass rock. she then uses extreme speed to snag Kapow and fly him up to regirock's shoulder so the dragon can use close combat to deck this fool in the side of the head. Kapow uses close combat three times because rocks are DUMB.

From her peripheral, she caught sight of the slowpoke plushie she had purchased. Its cold and empty gaze seemed to be judging her from atop its throne of stuffed brethren. Frowning to herself, Bailey shoved the pink pokemon down to the bottom of the bag–where those eyes could not see her.[break][break]

“Yeah, 'course I do,” she had partaken in the Secret Base craze back when she was a teenager. Those days may have been long gone, but she was happy to see that the trend was making a come back. Secret Bases were the shit. As he explained his own base, it made her think back to her own. It had also been a complete disaster–a place that she occupied when she was ditching class or wanted some time to herself.[break][break]

Chubs wiggled at Joey's suggestion. Bailey had to be the cautious one. “You know, you're supposed to get a girl dinner before you invite her back to your place.”[break][break]

But, she rose to her feet and held Chubs under her arm as if he were a basketball. What was the harm? It wasn't like she had anything better to do. “Sure. Fuck it." He didn't seem like one of those... what was the word? Socio-baths?
