Steam wafted about from the floors, rising. Which likely made it difficult to notice the excess amassing from the ceiling as well.

Molten metal paw-nubs gripped the once icy walls, now melting down to stone, adding to the filling the chamber. At silent cue; a FLAMETHOWER shoot towards the ice apparition intending to force it to a corner.

Sgt. Doaks; SUPRISE MOTHERFUGGA!

Sénon gave no answer to Laurs' prompt from where ever he concealed himself.

However, Infernape coordinated the assailing Flamethrower with a FIRE BLAST, cutting off another path to evasion in an attempt to force the Mirage Pokémon back into the intended corner.

Meanwhile, Chimchar hooted and jumped about Laurs' shoulder and pulling on his hair and face, pointed to the safety of the hall. Either out of concern for Laurs, or self preservation.

Unfortunate as the death of the Head Ranger would be for the Rangers, Hoenn's public perception of the League, the AQUA initiative, Cait, their twin daughters, Kanto, the Game Corner (TM), Guillermo Marceliño Utah and @ajay sagira mosse , his Uncle Game, his parents, Adrian Malcolm , the Crimsen stans, and Cinnabar Island.

-it wasn't the most confusing thing to happen in the wake of 'Articuno's Icy End of the World' attack.

His Infernape was gone, his D!Chimchar was gone, his backpack was gone. The temperature of the stone cold inner chamber was rising from its newfound apocalyptic low, steam mixing with the frosty fog and mist that had dominated the space in their arrival.

It only took the time necessary to get enough ice off his face to see it wasn't quite his face at all. It was the face

cait alfric wasn't going to like this.

Not only was Sénon frozen to hazard, its infernape and other chimchar had vanished.

What a fickle thing human life was, one minute you were all fire and vigor and the next you were a block of iced meat.

It was a horrid thing to see a human being frozen to death. If it was someone you knew, someone you knew were toiling through their own issues, the lost might have hit a particular chord.

-resonating into a most sour note.

Articuno knew not what it'd done but Laurs would understand implicitly as he took in the new norm of his co-Head.

The unnatural positioning of the arms thrown up in a block.
The body turned slightly as if primed to run for cover
The tiny black beady little inhuman eyes stuck in shock.

From a safe distance from the gathering of punchy bears the Hoenn's Head Ranger read from the manuscript of an Alolan researcher who studied in the field decades ago.

Bewear are dangerous, if you didn't know.

It was best to give them a wide berth. Sure enough they looked soft and cute, like a childhood plush come to life.

Their fighting moves pulverized bones and the human body could only withstand fractions of what they were capable of.

In fact, they were so dangerous the only effective place to hide from them was in plain sight, boldly amongst them.

Such a task took an absurd boldness and skill, that only one man was capable of such a feat. As pictured below.

Closing the book with disdain he opted not to read any more works of this man, nor to get any closer to the Bewear, unless lives were at risk. "Idiot."

Through the jungle, among the trees,
a humanoid pokémon unleashed the beast.

With massive foot and muscle refined,
it made history, of its record times.

Kicking off trees to traverse with speed,
no vines; sure footing, is all it would need.

Not for glory, nor being the best,
it pressed on through woods to feel air on its chest.

Through Fortree's wilds it made up its mind,
to stop for a sip, at the first lake it'd find.

Its body was hot, and its tongue was coarse,
before its nose caught scent, of a water source.

Before a body of water with a 'THUD' it appeared,
only to be vexed, by what was near.

Smaller, thinner, though not at all frail,
a Zarude in the jungle, found an ape with no tail.

"Oh, its you." Game greeted his 'free range' pokémon with a nod; his prized companion from his placement during the Hoenn Star Tournament.

The Zarude seemingly warming up him as an authority figure; the head of the pack. "Come on, Cait's waiting back at the cabin."

Sliding to a stop in the crossing of a Salandit, the Ranger's interest was piqued. Fire/Poison types being a particular combination interest for the redhead.

He threw two pokéballs, sixteen seconds apart.

The first called forth his Wartortle.

The second culled the fire type from its life on the mountain, adding it to the legions in his care. Only a COUNTER and WATER SPOUT happening in the seconds between the two throws.

Crimsen attempted to capture Salandit!

Picking up Jennika by the shell he carried her overhead for the extra weight can went about finishing his run.

He looked into the gaze of his mother's sister's son.

He saw no lies in the eyes that stared back at him.

For every statement made, he wished it were lies.

Xerneas' emergence from a tree was in line the reports of past incidents, he'd had no association with the Littleroot occurrences. It was all second hand.

Second hand information was still prime for inferences and leads, if you had enough pieces to put together.

Not that you needed many pieces to understand what it meant when Xerneas attacked members of the elite four.

The mention of Kazimir turning their grassy entrapping into a cage of fire was problematic but given Guillermo was alive there was no point in picking a bone.

"All of them are important." It was just alarming to know Team Rocket now, in a sense, had life and death on their side.

Even if Xerneas was a 'free agent' going against the league on its own. It wouldn't be free for long. "Listen Me," He took a deep breath and played off the terrible throbbing in the side of his head.

In noticing how tense the new Ranger had become, Sénon associated it with the post-traumatic stress of the brush he'd had with his own fiery ending. "I'm glad you made it out of that, don't take your survival as a fluke."

He let go of the shoulders, the crazed look in his eyes since faded to a focus. "Can you tell me if Xerneas had a trainer, or a proxy, any human that ordered it or even kept particularly close to it?" In the back ground behind his cousin he saw the twinklings of a crystalized flower formation budding from the base of one of his tomato berry trees.

The talonflame in its peckish bird-y movements craned it neck around to take a long stare of the human female.

She didn't seem anymore pleased with anything than her trainer in the helmet. "Yeah because my genitalia makes me an idiot." If that was the crux of her viewpoints, it only meant her downfall would be something that wasn't male.

Ultimately this wasn't a shakedown. If she didn't have the remains of her half of the deal, he was obligated to give her more time.

That aside, they were talking in circles which meant it was time to stop talking.

"-and I'm not convinced you can be satisfied." As far as his faith in her and their attempt at any enterprising. "We both need faith in one another and results."

He stood up dusting off his thighs and core. "Apparently, I owe you the former." With a snap of his fingers the flamed falcon flew short, landing on his gloved hand. "You think about which of them you owe me."

He came up fast grabbing his cousin by the shoulders, he looked a little crazed honestly. "Xerneas?" He even shook his junior relative once.

"You saw Xerneas with no antlers?" His mouth was
open, the disposition somewhere between baffled and offended.

Neither of them were Kalosian, well maybe Memo was on his father's side. Still if he said he saw it then he saw it.

The draft ran though the cave chamber and up the back of the fire-trainer, sending literal chills shooting down his spine.

It all happened so fast he was only just barely able to react; only just barely.

He threw his hands up as the cold winds gathered under Articuno's plumes and at the heave of its mighty frigid wings the force its icy intent was thrown not at him, but at the entirety of the chamber in full.

Misty vapors and chilled particulate crashed against the redhead; a 'smoke bomb' of icy sediment and frozen fog. The sensation of small pin-pricks stinging his arms and face as he stood his ground.

That atmosphere dropped degrees in the dozens in an instant. A simple mammalian exhalation spewed thick vapors of heat into the cave atmosphere.

A layer of ice grew over everything and for a moment, the cave was silent.

When the debris and the winds settled in the new lowered temperature, Sénon Game stood, frozen stiff.
