"All regions have their own problems." Admittedly, Hoenn's issues were perhaps a tad bit overwhelming compared to its neighbors. "Unova looks pretty in pictures but when you look passed all of the glitz and glamour of its big cities you're left with, well, a heap of garbage." Literally and mephorically. It was as if people thought trash bins were for decoration. Alleys were littered with not only waste but humans, unable to pay the ever climbing rent of nearby houses. Even raggedy apartments could be expensi vr as all hell. Then there was the issue of the the skinny, unkempt stray Pokemon..
[break][break]Gigi shrugged as she chuckled, "To be honest, I didn't do much research into Hoenn before traveling here. It sounded like a fun adventure, but.." She had been horribly mistaken. "Heh. It probably didn't help that I used Chatter to help decide my fate." Speaking the truth aloud made her wince both internally and externally. Yeeaaahh.. not the wisest idea.
[Break][break]Doppler's facial features dropped as he realized they were nearing their destination. He cried out his displeasure, voice shaking as he did so. "Doppler, it's okay. We can come visit your new friend." The tattered Castform didn't look convinced.
[Break]The Castform granted for the mission cooed softly toward Doppler. A wild smile was on her face yet it didn't quite reach her eyes. Gigi chewed on the bottom of her lip as she looked back toward Kyle, "They'll be fine, right?" She knew that the Castform knew her mission but seeing the departure between the fast made friends made her heart ache with sympathy.

Seriously? This garden was more work than of any real use! Terabyte loved tending to the berries and it presented the opportunity for Gigi to actually learn about physical labor.. buuut she was definitely over all of this. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she had to deal with thieves left and right. Couldn't they target someone else's garden? What the hell was attracting them to hers - uh, besides berries that is.

Hands in the air, Gigi turned around to leave because if there were no berries then she wouldn't have to deal with so much hassle. Unfortunately, sensing a disturbance with her "children", Terabyte burst out of her Pokeball. The Venusaur protectively stood over the plants, herding the small rabbit away.

An exchange of words - aka animalistic cries - resulted in the Buneary nodding in understanding and hopping up to Gigi, expectation dancing in its eyes. What in the world had they been discussing? A deal had been brokered between the two, which, apparently involved her. Her eyes narrowed as she glared at Venusaur, who offered a lop-sided grin in response. Sighing, Gigi fished for a Pokeball and chucked it at the willing Buneary.

Oh, ew, gross. PDA. What a romantic setting for that type of shit. Couldn't they just get a room or something? Well, at least it was a small peck although his wandering hand said otherwise.[break][break]
Thankfully, the wall fucking exploded (okay, slight exaggeration but an electrified piece of rock just hit her and that was just-). Her attention quickly switched back to the task at hand. Time to see what was behind the wall--

Why in Arceus name were there more goddamn walls barring their way? She had never been in a cave, at least not in real life, but she was pretty sure this wasn't how they worked. If they weren't careful, who knows what could happen? Hah, surviving a fucking war only to be buried alive.

Despite the words of caution to herself, Gigi's actions took the opposite approach. Upon recalling Hangry, she released a Pokeball high into the sky. A white light momentarily shattered the darkness as two swords fell from the sky. Skillfully (aka luckily), Gigi caught one sword with each hand. She winced as pain shot in her wrists - Fuck. She forgot how heavy Hax was. [break][break]
The pain did not deter her, though. Attacking a reasonably sturdy wall with a pair of swords didn't seem like a great idea.. but when did Pokemon ever follow logic?

"Get ready for an aerial ace, Hax." The Doublade barely had time to react as they clumsily came crashing in the general direction of the blocked pathway. Instinctively, the blades sliced through the air which, in turn, sliced through the roadblock.

Voice comically low, a terrible attempt to mimic Maverick followed, "I don't know if I'm qualified for such a fancy smancy position because of reasons." Okay, so maybe it was more of a parody than an actual attempt at parroting what Maverick said back then. "I thought we were friends." Gigi dramatically crooned as she placed a hand on her heart, "Why would you hurt me so?"

The act was dropped when the female snorted, amused by her own acting skills. Or, rather, lack of skills. "I mean.. it would have been cool to find out from you and not some random gossip online." She childishly stuck a tongue out at the new Rustboro Gym Leader.

She hesitated as Maverick asked her intentions behind physically coming to the gym. "Well, I wanted to punch you buuut.." a cheeky grin twitched onto her face, "But I guess that can wait until after I beat your ass." Although she portrayed an air of confidence, Gigi was everything but confident. Maverick had been into this whole training business for far longer than she. Hell, she never even dreamed she'd be here.. doing stuff like this. The war was also still freshly stamped into her mind, reminding her of her blaring inadequacies.

"So, uh, how exactly do I go about challenging you?" She rubbed the back of her head, a sheepish look on her face. "Is there, like, anything official I need to do?" Gigi didn't want to screw up Maverick's job. In her own way, she had come to the gym to support him. Accidentally getting his gym shut down because of some weird violation would not be ideal.

Is it, like, just training your Pokemon and taking on those gym challenges?" It was evident that Gigi had never thought much about Pokemon trainers and what they accomplished. Was being a trainer even sustainable? She couldn't imagine how they would get enough money. Although, if a Pokemon trainer were defined by those two things... then wasn't she basically half trainer? Ugh, she was beginning to confuse herself.

Curiosity piqued as the scarred man talked about open applications to be a gym leader. Wow. All you had to do was fill out an application? She thought the selection would be much more ruthless and taxing. "Dude, you should do it." A large, pearly smile flashed in his direction. "If you were a gym leader before then why would you think you're not qualified? I don't know what the resume for a gym leader looks like but I'd bet money that you would kill the auditions." she encouraged. "It is a great opportunity. Personally, I would jump at the opportunity to do something I loved.. Why are you so hesitant, though?"

Her fast-paced brain was easily distracted as one of the cutest little foxes she had ever seen wandered up to the two. Maverick had also noticed the adorable dark type. "Weellll," Gigi paused for a brief moment, "Since you already have one, is it okay if I caught the little one?" Also, the thought of Azura causing the small kit to scream out like that Nuzleaf cry, that she was certain would give her nightmares tonight, was not a pleasant one.

Gigi squatted down next to the Nickit, who looked more curious than afraid. "Hey there, little one." Thanks to a certain rodent who got incredibly cranky if food wasn't available, she managed to scrounge up a poketreat. The Nickit's oversized ears perked up as she noticed the treat. Practically salivating, the dark type eagerly went by the trainer's side. This was much easier than scavenging for her food.

Meanwhile, Gigi breathed a sigh of relief. Finally.. finally. There was a Pokemon today that, judging by the fox's eagerness, didn't need to be battled to catch. It wasn't that she minded battling. She was just very tired today, drained from forcing herself to swallow the pain that radiated from her wrists.
[break][break] Honestly, she needed more practice despite her assumptions that pokemon battles were similar to her online strategy games. Maybe she would realize that one day but, for today, she was more than happy to befriend the Pokemon with something as simple as treats. Gigi glanced toward Maverick, silently asking if she was allowed to catch the dark type, before she offered an empty Pokeball to the inquisitive fox. Would the dark type, coaxed by treats, join her team or decide to turn tail and run? Only time would tell.

"Huh." Gigi mused to herself, "Do they belong to someone or are they wild Pokemon?" A human being behind the stunt would make the most logical sense. How else would they get the materials required? Although, the image of Pumpkaboo purchasing pokeballs at the general store was pretty darn great. [break][break]
Her nose scrunched up as Kyle revealed that his entire life was spent in this, uh, quaint region. "My condolences." she offered though the words were distorted by a cheeky chuckle. "Hoenn is certainly.." Gigi trailed off for a moment. "Different." It was a vague conclusion but, despite the man describing it himself as a hellhole, she didn't want to offend his patriotism.. or something like that. However, she did add, "The lack of advanced technology surprised me when I arrived. I mean, it's not like the whole region is hick town buut it definitely isn't Unova." [break][break]
She hummed, temporarily lost in her thoughts, as she instinctively followed the Hoenn native. "Any ideas on the weird happenings around the region?" Poisonous fumes, heavy atmospheres, and whispered words rampaged the lands. "Is it like the end of the world or something?" Little did she know how true she would be. For now, though, it was easy to tell she was joking.

"What's brought me here, eh?" she rephrased his question. Teeth chewed on her bottom lip as she tossed around several answers in her mind. "I mean, why does anyone come to Hoenn?" Hoenn was the ideal location for people who wanted to keep a lowkey and escape from their previous lives.

She wasn't going to admit that she let her followers decide her journey. That was, quite honestly, not one of her brightest moments. Why the hell did she think people online would do anything but troll? Gods, she could be stretching out underneath the sun in Alola if she hadn't considered the opinions of her audience. "I suppooose you could call it an early retirement adventure." Maybe she should have rephrased that? She sure as hell didn't look old enough to retire and she was still streaming, but it was part of the truth.

This was a terrible idea. The internet craze had drawn Gigi in like a Mothim to a Lampent. Dungeon-esque, or so they stated, adventures would be coordinated by the League in order to explore newly unearthed caves. While exploring wasn't necessarily a bad idea, although the idea of physical labor didn't thrill the streamer, the fact that she chose Mauville of all the places was a masochistic choice on her half.[break][break]
The war was still fresh in her mind, the memory imprinted deep within her psyche. Visions of Ethernet glitching, seizing, in front of her renewed feelings of helplessness. What did she think coming back to this area would do? That she would conquer her trauma and ease her mind? Hah. She was only good at escaping from reality: it happened in Unova and surely this would be no different.

Worst of all, Gigi didn't even have her stream to turn her attention to. The deep underground was an electrical dead area. Well, okay, not completely. But the static and lag just wasn't working. Emergency calls could still be made which was good, but.. that was the only good thing about this situation. [break][break]
Gigi forced out a laugh, a strained smile on her face. What else could she do besides laugh off the trauma that laid claim to her mind? Luckily, the power plant did bring back some good memories. As surprising as that sounded, Gigi recalled that the old power plant was one of the first places she visited when she had arrived in Hoenn. It was here that she caught Duracell who became a vital part of her team during the war.

A dark gaze scanned the area as she searched for her fellow party members. She stepped closer towards vague shadows that took the shape of humans. "Uh, hi. Are we all here for the adventour thing?" Gigi loved puns but saying "adventour" left a strange taste in her mouth. [break][break]
She continued to examine the surroundings. The light provided by the explorer's kit allowed her to see well enough. An adrenaline rush coursed through her veins as she noticed that the surrounding area was very much, in fact, like a dungeon or puzzle in an adventure game. Walls and obstacles blocked their paths.

Wandering away from the group, Gigi drew closer to the supposed dead end. To the right, an electric-like current caused the hair on her hands to stand at attention. Hm.. As she searched for a pokeball she called out to her party members, "I think there's something behind this." Not that she had any concrete evidence besides her hunch. If she was right, though, that evidence shouldn't be hard to produce.

"Hangry," Gigi summoned her Morpeko who blinked a drowsy greeting. "Aim an aura wheel at that wall." The rodent shot his trainer a puzzled look but she insisted. Finally, the Morpeko shrugged his little shoulders and focused on the obstacle in their path. An electrical aura surrounded him, charging up before being sent hurtling in the pointed direction.

"But yeah. It's October now so.." Gigi chuckled, "I've only been here for a month. Or something like that." Her concept of time was easily distorted. At least, that was the excuse she liked to often use when late for something. The clock on her computer would magically jump forward five or more hours when she caught sight of the time. "It doesn't seem like you're a newbie- er, new to the area- like me, so.." That was awkward, wasn't it? Damn. Why didn't her ability to interact with new people online transfer to the real world? "I have no idea where we're supposed to go." Luckily, the smile never wavered from her face. "I mean, GPS is wonderful and all but having someone with knowledge of the region would probably be quicker."

"Oh, I almost forgot." A facial expression embraced the word duh as she sheepishly rubbed the back of her head, "I'm Gigi, by the way."

"Shit!" The former pro gamer burst through the tent's opening. Her body nearly crumbled to the floor as she held up her hand, requesting a few minutes to catch her breath. "Ah! I'm so sorry I'm late. The game ended up lasting longer than expected because each team kept throwing and-" A harsh glare from the professor silenced her rushed ramblings. Instinctively, her nose crinkled as she looked around the room. Unlike her peers, Gigi was very underdressed.

Ugh. Albeit not actually inside of it, seeing the university was enough to evoke memories of her school years. Ew. Her eyes scanned the crowd of students that had gathered, interested in the study. Gigi bit her tongue as she mulled over her words for a second. "School is a waste of time and money so just get your GED." Thankfully, her loud mouth managed to keep these words to herself.

Eager to be finished, Gigi summoned her Klefki. The small ring of keys happily accepted her trainer's extended hand, plopping her small body into the outstretched palm. "As right now, fairy are fairly newer than the other types out there." Arceus, this was awkward. Way too many people were looking at her (not to mention the daggers being sent her way by the professor). "Steel has been found to be super-effective against fairy types; like in the old fairy tales where some fae and other mythical creatures could only be injured by silver."

"However, unlike those fables, Klefki is only damaged normally by steel type attacks while still being resistant to fairy type attacks." Uh.. was that it? Or, rather, was that enough? Gigi looked to the professor whose stern face hadn't budged an inch. So.. was that a sign she was finished? "But, uh, yeah! If anyone needs further explanation you can follow me at--"

The professor cut her off before she could fully grasp the opportunity to advertise herself, "Thank you, Ms. Bae. That will be all." Geez, what a killjoy. Oh well. She couldn't say she was upset. The sooner she got out of here the better.
