it was the last piece of text that bumped it's way up onto aaron's screen as they exchanged messages. apparently the trainer had finally begun to branch out, challenging the figures of the league that could help him to amount to something to the public eye.

it felt like the first time someone wanted to battle him for this reason. there was more to his time in hoenn than days spent as a gym leader. his was a past decorated by just as many failings as there were triumphs.

the sky begins to lighten as night creeps towards dawn and DEREK HOFFMAN 's message remains on delivered. aaron seems like a no-show, but the roar of his charizard announces his arrival right on time. maybe not right on time for their agreed-upon appointment, but right on time before the ex-gym leader might've given up on him and left.

charizard wheels him through the air, turning lazy circles until she's low enough for him to slide off her back. and he does, ungracefully, landing with a groan of disgust as his sneakers make contact with wet sand.

A palm rubs down his face, unsure of whether he has the patience to deal with this guy. At the very least, this is a good chance to give them a reality check. Maybe they'd leave him alone from now on...

By reflex, two devices are selected to present Aaron his desired challenge. A Metagross and Tyranitar, respectively.

"You are aware of type advantages, aren't you?" Assuming so, Derek waits to see the fighters he chose. Whatever they were, he hoped they'd be able to withstand a few rounds of the sandstorm taking place due to the Tyranitar's power.

he squints harder as a sandstorm whips up around them, dragging gritty dust and wet, icky earth into the air. his charizard is a given for this fight. not just because she can turn DEREK HOFFMAN 's metagross into scrap metal, but because the change in weather has already irritated her out of listening to any commands to stand down.

aaron fishes around in his backpack. taking out capsules. shaking them. putting them against his ear. eventually he finds the other pokemon he's looking for. with a flick of the wrist, he tosses the ball into the air and releases his feraligatr.

she looks equally annoyed by the sandstorm, using a scaly arm to swat impotently at the air.

"i think handsome ass men should get to start first, so: get their asses, guys!"

he commands his feraligatr to aim a hydro pump at the tyrannitar from a distance. his charizard takes to the sky, releasing a flamethrower from above the metagross. the gout of fire slices carelessly across derek's side of the sandy terrain. [break][break]
