[attr="class","adrianscroll"]With his rump firmly planted against the grassy bank, Adrian watched the water's surface, hoping to catch sight of any pokemon breaking the surface. But it remained still enough for him to stare at his own reflection.[break][break]

The sound of nincada could be heard all around them, a rhythmic humming of sorts. The dull sounds of footfalls against oak could be discerned from the trainers crossing the bridge towards Rustboro City. The shrill cry of a bird piercing, even as it echoed from on high. But nothing of the water's denizens could be heard.[break][break]

And then at last, there it was. The sound of something crashing through the surface, only to dip back below before it could be seen. Thwop.
Just as quickly as he might've seen it, it was gone, back to the murky shallows. His eyes turned towards the sun, finding more to watch in the v-shaped silhouettes flapping away in the distance.

Going out on a route to look for flying or swimming Pokemon that could potentially hold his weight wasn't totally out of character. The good thing was, they didn't need to be huge Pokemon either. He was only four feet and eleven inches tall-- not much to carry. Any Pokemon that seemed like it could carry a crate would be able to carry Monty easy-breezy since he didn't have much muscular weight to him and was a skinny little thing.

Walking out onto the route, a familiar face had Monty slowly letting a smile of a smirk. What an adventure that had been, and an interesting evening. He moved over with a smirk playing his features. Like he'd known Adrian his whole life, he took a seat beside the rock star and took in a deep breath. Once he let it loose, he leaned back on his hands and smiled at Adrian.

[attr="class","adrianscroll"]"Wha- How- Hey!" Adrian had almost jumped, easily recognizing the other's dulcet tones as they plopped down beside him. What a lovely surprise. For as much 'fun' as waiting around for nothing in particular had been, it was made leaps and bounds better for Monty's presence. Recollections of their first night together filtered through his thoughts, before he turned on them and pressed them with questions.[break][break]

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Genuinely curious, he cast a momentary glance to the water, noticing a binacle surfacing from the water. It simply basked in the sunlight a few short feet from them, and he left it be. A pikipek wasn't far off, and eventually approached the creature, deftly plucking bits of algae and other growths from its porous surface. Both pokemon seemed to coexist harmoniously, which was something he doted over in wild pokemon. It made him reluctant to interrupt them, too.[break][break]

And he'd rather focus on Monty, anyways.[break][break]

"Sunlight suits you." What kind of compliment was that? And yet it made sense to him; when first they'd met, most of their time together was spent huddled together under a swathe of thunderclouds. Something about the way his hair hair caught the starlight just struck his fancy.

Pleased he'd clearly caught Adrian off guard, Monty relaxed a bit more in the sun. The two surfacing Pokemon didn't go unnoticed as he was asked a question and then immediately complimented. Monty had to admit, it sort of threw him off for a moment. Made him chuckle and adjust the hat on his head.[break][break]

"You owe my need for a water type Pokemon that I don't hate."[break][break]

Impossible, but it was worth a shot. Namely when a familiar face was involved.[break][break]

And yes, he had completely ignored that compliment, because it made him blush and feel funny.

[attr="class","adrianscroll"]Adrian let out a short chortle before his lips pulled back into an easy going grin, sinking back into the grassy bank, hoping to get a little more cozy. He wondered what it was Monty had against most water pokemon, but then Adrian wasn't much better, once more turning his nose up at the surrounding pokemon; a dewott smashing something against the flat of its stomach just a few yards out, and in the sky above a drifblim, simply allowing itself to be carried by the wind.[break][break]

"I was hoping for something more... scrappy," he admitted to Monty, revealing a bit of his indifference towards the native pokemon. Paying them little attention now, he rolled over onto his side, propping up his head with the arm tucked against the earth. His eyes flicked up to Monty's cap concealed features, trying to scrutinize the face beneath it. "What about you? Anything you're looking for in a pokemon?"[break][break]

The only criteria vital to his search were that the pokemon could fight well, which was a given, as well as ferry him around. Beyond that, he could make do, but these stipulations alone eliminated many possible candidates. And so he'd have sit here for quite some time, he wagered, before he found anything that'd make this trip worthwhile. Asides from Monty, that was.

"You're not allowed to laugh."

So, he knew Adrian was going to laugh at him anyway, but he hoped saying that first would prepare the other and the laughter that Adrian would give wouldn't be so... obnoxious.

"But ... a milotic would be best. I'm ... looking for a milotic or a feebas."

The fact that he was actually searching for an ugly little feebas so he could struggle with it to make it beautiful was probably the most comical thing anybody who knew him had heard.

"I know it's stupid, but I really want a milotic. They're beautiful."

Bracing himself for the answer, his lips curled inward and he cocked an eyebrow with anticipation. It's not like he wanted to make Monty feel embarrassed, but some pokemon were more of a joke than anything. Yet their answer was anything but.[break][break]

"Pfft," he spat out suddenly, "That's what I'm supposed to laugh at?" He supposed Monty couldn't have known how he'd react, but Adrian admired the pokemon he'd set his sights on. Here in Hoenn it was a pokemon with demontrable power, as well as unrivaled aesthetic. Sure, it came from a lump of a pokemon, but it was well worth the investment.[break][break]

"You know, one of Sinnoh's greatest champions used a Milotic in their title battles," he informed Monty, thinking back to his time spent in Sinnoh, hoping to one day become the Sinnoh League Champion... "I think Milotic is a great match for you!" And it suits your looks. Adrian was beaming at Monty, trying to encourage his choice, but he supposed Monty had already made up his mind. But it bothered him that they'd felt insecure about their choice of pokemon. Was there really a wrong choice with pokemon?[break][break]

"I wanted one when I was back in Sinnoh, but they're even rarer there than over here." He'd rolled over onto his back, staring up at the sun patiently. By now he was ignorant to any pokemon around them, paying them no mind.

The conversation was far too interesting for Monty to realize that a hawlucha and a starly had made themselves known. The starly pecked away at some berries while the hawlucha gave a flip, kick, and then vanished back into the brush.

Seemed that opportunity had passed the two trainers up, too wrapped up in conversation to care.

"It's the fact that I'm looking for a feebas that's embarrassing. It's like admitting I want to get a lickitung on my team."

Monty immediately glared at Adrian.

"Which I don't. I knew a guy once who had one and said he couldn't get the cowlick the thing had caused out of his hair."

He only laughed more at Monty's retelling of an old friend's woes concerning a lickitung. Still he wondered why anybody would laugh about a feebas, knowing full well what they would become when nurtured properly, which was the same with any pokemon. But Monty had made his point, and he wasn't going to argue it further. Let him feel embarrassed about it, he figured. It did no harm.

He just didn't want that for Monty; holding back one's thoughts or actions based on what was popular opinion. Monty didn't strike him as a turtle, but he supposed everyone could be a bit self-conscious. Speaking of turtles, there was one emerging from the water that snapped at a farfetch'd, missing the poultry and snatching the leek back into the water. Needless to say, there was a scuffle as the two pokemon began retaliating, facing off at the water's edge.

Adrian couldn't help but laugh at the pokemon, but was otherwise unmoved, hardly stirred to action. "So," he began in earnest. "Did you want to grab a bite in Rustboro later?" What he hadn't said was 'before we part ways again?' But his eyes betrayed that train of thought: Please say yes, I don't know when I'll see you again. But perhaps he was being selfish, losing sight of a bigger picture.

He had no idea what Monty had planned for later.

Plans were something Monty typically made, but often changed, so long as another individual wasn't involved in pre-made plans. His plans, for the time being, was to find a Feebas. If he didn't find one, then he would probably just go home and sulk, send texts, otherwise socialize while not having to go out and be social. Something he found himself doing a lot more of recently now that he was a field agent.

But Adrain asked what he was doing and that changed his plans. He didn't mind going and grabbing a bite to eat with Adrian, and he showed as much in a shrug.

"So far, no, I don't have any plans other than catching a feebas."

Speaking of, he started getting his pole and his tackle box set up, something he'd brought in his oversized backpack. He really wished they sold bags that weren't so bulky in material, but, eh. He supposed they had to be tough to last long out on the trail.

"After this, though, I could probably use a bite."

With that, he cast his reel, in hope.
