he opens the door.

and it stops jarringly.

elijah's face is framed by a thin strip of space between the door and the door frame; it's all he offers for the conversation. for now. his generosity proves to be limited for strangers.

"hello." elijah's fist clenches the ridge of the door. it's as if there's an imaginary chain holding the door secure and defensive. "it's not a bad time."

the room smells.

"what can i do for you?" elijah's head leans against the frame. "a visit from the owner doesn't seem like good news."

"the government." elijah grumbles thick. his voice grainy as if he were chewing cud. "figures. those idiots have no idea what's going on their heads are too far up their own asses."

elijah rubs his neck. trails of dirt paint themselves across his bare skin.

"we're kinda the same." the apothecary rubs some of the grime off, clapping his hands together. "people don't appreciate my work anymore. maybe the rockets will."

he picks a shroom. brushes the dirt off.

"this is edible raw. want to try?" he offers it over now that he has the chance to without being interrupted.

Elijah's eyes felt as if they were melting. Like Daliesque clocks, his vision drooped and dragged down his cheeks, as he challenged the waves of drowsiness surging against him.

As his Breloom slammed her fist into the poor man, Elijah dashed forth for the controls— and @marsh1. But his legs were harried by a mental quagmire. His brain worked faster than his limbs, and as he slumped forward with the weight of sleep, tumbled into him.

Elijah's strong form solidified into heavy stone. The two slammed into each other: one in pain, the other in sleep. The rocket's chin rested on Victor's shoulder, body positioned as if he were in an awkward embrace between lovers.

The Breloom paused at the comedy dryly; no laughter. Just shock.

Suddenly, the grass kangaroo began to retch, and as her neck bubbled underneath, she attempted to fire SEED BOMBS at @marsh1 and the controls.



tl;dr: breloom hits victor - elijah falls asleep - breloom takes matters into her own hands and tries to seed bomb ami and the controls

elijah's serene airs are lost in the chaos. consumed by the gas. the uproarious earthquakes of @creed and his team hinder his departure from the second train, causing his body to jostle back and forth like a buoy at sea. he's calm, and as his tangrowth provides a soft sling of vines for him to ferry himself from platform to platform, he searches for a train.

the telephone irked him after all. he doesn't like prank calls. the eldritch limbs of his tangrowth surge forth to arrest a closing door on the first train. they don't stop. piling on top of each other to form stronger arms, they peel the car door back open. his first steps on the train are heralded with the horrific sound of vines slurping back into their ominous void.

...

before the conductor's car, he sees them. he orders his tangrowth (and breloom now) back, hidden from view on the sides of the previous passenger car. but the chaos outside masks the lullaby with its ruckus. he flings the door open:

"i'm supposed stop this train dead in its tracks." elijah says to and @marsh1— but he fights a terrible yawn. "and i guess you two as well."

his voice should ring familiar to the prankster.

the rocket's eyes become drowsy, and he cusses as his eyes settle on the meddling jigglypuff.

"force palm him, psellia."

his breloom launches from passengers car, claw lit up with energy as she barrels toward him.



tl;dr: in train 01 - reaches conductor's car - elijah becomes drowsy due to jigglypuff's sing - breloom attempts to force palm .

the snake is given a thorough shower. as it escapes, slithering through the snake like a wrung out hand towel. good riddance. elijah doesn't like snakes. as he pulls himself to his feet, elijah pockets his new partner. he directs his victreebel back into the trees— more for exercise than a scouting order.

"thanks." elijah says. "you never know what's in the woods."

the wicker basket feels heavier, but it's not enough. it never is. and elijah intends to keep it that way. its vacancies suggest a need and value for his services— and he dreads the day, he forages only for himself.

"it's kinda weird." elijah hoists the basket, adjusting his grip. "how does a girl like you get mixed up with rocket?"

elijah picks up the phone. as his tangrowth wreaks havoc behind him, tearing up seats and BINDING civilians, he sighs into the receiver. the plastic meets his cold skin.

"hello, train number two. we have fun here." elijah says, voice foregrounded by screams. "who's this?"

he peers through the train window, the glass smeared by sweaty palms from the outside. pressing a button, the doors to his train slide open. elijah motions for his abominable friend, and she concedes, throwing her playthings back into the jungle of dilapidated seats.

like a bungee cord, the phone extends as he trots one step outside. "need help? i can come find you."

before he finishes his piece, @creed's attack on the rails surges forth.

they had scaled the apartment complex. using the thick, ugly vines the victreebel expelled from its engorged form, elijah provided his partner with a rope to climb. the vines hooked onto a balcony's railing which led into their target's apartment. no one saw; at least, they made sure of it. only the moon bore witness, and even then, it only peeked from an ominous field of clouds.

the man wasn't home yet. an overtime worker. he had no sense of work life balance, and was certainly at risk of karoushi: death from overwork. and at risk he was. his self-imposed work life would be the cause of his demise- funny how things worked out.

as elijah alighted upon the balcony, his victreebel's vines expanded leaves to soften his steps. he extended a hand to lucius:

"up you get." elijah whispered. "take care of the door?"

ahead, the apartment's doors lay ahead: wholly glass with thick curtains hiding the man's life from the inside.

this isn't illegal. he's simply tending to his plants. it's therapeutic. a significant contributor to longevity. his victreebel drools, hanging from the bathroom's towel bar as elijah peppers ground powders into his pokemon's inviting mouth.

it's nice. bonding time. other plants, potted in cute portable plastic planters, engulf the counter space and the floor. vines, stems and stalks grow the room into a jungle.

a knock on the door.

elijah pats his victreebel's bulging body before leaving the bathroom. he closes the bathroom door, and suddenly, the rented hotel room looks normal. five stars for the seaside shanty.

five stars.

he opens the door.

his foraging is challenged by the appetite of a skiddo. the goat cleans the fields of delicious shrooms and leaves, its wet nose sliding through the grasses like a snake. as elijah pulls the last herb from the grass, the skiddo catches it with its teeth.

elijah doesn't fight. he immediately lets go, and the goat grinds the pungent leaf into cud.

"hey buddy." elijah peers down to its tiny hooves, and suddenly, the soles of his feet pulse sorely.

pulling out more herbs from his wicker basket, elijah feeds the skiddo budding friendship.

he grumbles. something disturbs the peace. like baking rods, the kirlia's feet trod upon the wood. it tests the soils—and elijah's patience. and of course, the apothecary passes. he's fond of the creature's colour, the red tips and white dress like floral accents.

but he's in no need of something so delicate. after all, he doesn't want a kirlia's death of all things weighing upon his mind.

instead, elijah tends to the plants in his mind. calmly, he lets her pass while he plucks the occasional herb from the forest path.

"medicine. smudging. food."

elijah doesn't smile. his face is affixed to the virtue of patience like a stubborn vine wrapped several times around itself. lines of smudged dirt run across his cheeks: paintings from absentminded fingers.

"i doubt you've got the palate for these." he extends a raw shroom toward her. "unless you're brave enough to try?"

suddenly, elijah's jaw crashes onto the ground as his body is pulled back. coiled around his leg, a servine constricts menacingly, one eye taunting quinn. he grunts. the sudden jolt of pain flaring from his chin is not enough to distract from the opportunist breloom advancing upon him.

with a sharp whistle, he summons his friend. like a spider, his victreebrel grapples downward from the trees. its ravenous mouth engulfs the shroom, lips clenching tight before running up the breloom's neck. they catch on the pokémon's jaw like a noose.

"quinn. get this damned snake off me." elijah kicks.

as the victreebel whips the writhing breloom with its vines, elijah wrestles a pokéball out of his pockets and strikes the creature's gut.



tl;dr: capture attempt on breloom / asks quinn to help him with the servine!

elijah enjoys littleroot town. here, children imagine forever kingdoms in the woods while adolescents fantasize of escape. it gets tiring. being in a small community. even the smallest whispers are the largest broadcasts—no radio tower needed.

and here, in littleroot, hidden away in the deceptive simplicity green, can be the biggest roots. rural hoenn holds secrets—and elijah wants to forage them.

he wanders the woodland, ears wide open.

he often did this alone. bathing in the forest's greens, elijah lost himself in the sensory landscape. his hands traveled across soft blades of grass before stumbling upon mushrooms which were plucked and popped out of the earth like pus-filled pimples. elijah thought he was doing humanity a favour. no kids would stumble upon these— with their filthy, greedy mouths.

"quinn, bring me the basket. i've got a few more here." elijah beckoned for his wicker basket. "and try not to step on the grass."
