Okay! Her goodies are all put away and she'd even managed to procure a little rucksack to put future finds in. Luka feels a bit like the little mermaid as she rides back into the sea on Madeleine's back- she's got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty...[break][break]

In fact, isn't this kind of like a volunteer cleanup? It's definitely helping to clear the ocean of debris. Luka hums, suddenly feeling rather good about herself as they take their next dive, hunting once again for treasure.

The door to Fiorelli's Floristry bursts opens with an urgent chime. When Luka enters in a rush, she's less put together than usual; red-faced, windswept, looking distinctly ruffled. She immediately spots Elisabeth Fiorelli amongst the flowers, and her face floods with relief.[break][break]

"Oh, gosh! For a second, I thought I'd never get here before you closed!"[break][break]

There's more than an hour before the shop's advertised closing time.[break][break]

She'd like to get right to business, but takes a moment to catch her breath instead. Kitten heels click against the floor as Luka takes a cursory lap around the shop, admiring the miniature garden of fresh flowers on display. Her gaze is drawn to baby's breath and daisies and blushing pink carnations, and the air is filled with their delicate perfumes. Florid rose petals look velvet soft, but she resists the urge to touch.[break][break]

"I, um...actually, I could use your help," she admits after a minute or so, her smile turning sheepish at the edges. "I want to put together a bouquet...but I want to make sure I get the message right. Could you help me?"[break][break]

They're here![break][break]

And Luka's heart melts.[break][break]

They've arrived in a small clearing near the city, right off the beaten path. The snow here has fallen in deeper drifts, small mounds built and shaped- but not by human hands.[break][break]

A small herd of other ice types are gathered underneath the snow. Piplup, Spheal, Cubchoo...a whole assortment of young ones with what Luka can only assume to be their parents. They crawl out of their makeshift igloos with squeals of excitement and crowd around Delibird, who's expression noticeably softens.[break][break]

The old man reaches into his tail and pulls out present after present, much to the delight of the little ones. More exuberant cries chime around the clearing as the babies laugh and play, kicking up flurries of snow that drift through the air like diamond powder.[break][break]

Luka doesn't say anything. She just watches, eyes shining, hands clasped together as though in prayer. The merry scene unfolding around them seems like one they shouldn't intrude upon, and yet she can't bear to tear herself away so quickly.[break][break]

"Oh-" There's a tug on the hem of her skirt. It's the Delibird. He grunts once before he digs into his sack and pulls out a pecha berry for her. As soon as she accepts, he turns towards Greyson Connors to offer the same.[break][break]

"Thank you." Luka's smile is soft and warm as fairy lights. She stoops, and slowly leans in to plant a kiss on the top of Delibird's head. This time, he doesn't pull away or hiss. If anything, the white fluff around his face seems to darken with a blush. But true to form, he simply grunts again and waddles back towards the party.

After catching her breath, Luka's ready for another dive. This time, she manages to keep her eyes open under the salty water for much longer as they search for something good, poking amongst fronds of seaweed and being careful not to disturb any Corsola in their rummaging.[break][break]

Their next find is hidden underneath a jutting rock. Luka sticks her hand in indiscriminately and pulls back just as quickly, almost sacrificing one of her fingers to a pinching Krabby claw! She and her Milotic hurry out of there as the crab emerges from his hiding hole, irately shaking a claw at them.[break][break]

'Get off my lawn!' she can almost hear them say...

Filled with adrenaline and flushed with success, Luka doesn't bother to rest before attempting her next trick. This time she should try and go for something a little tricker, right? Okay...okay! They can do this![break][break]

There are no punches spared for old comrades, and Helios wouldn't have it any other way. Going toe to toe with an opponent who can match his strength gives him a rush he hasn't felt in quite some time.[break][break]

Heavy blows find purchase and the Blaziken slides back, but does not falter. Instead he shifts his weight into a controlled attack, turning his opponent's strength against him. A build-up of kinetic energy releases in a powerful kick, revenge for every prior hit.[break][break]

“Y-you think so?” A smile flits onto her features; sweetly genuine and almost heartbreakingly surprised. Against such an onslaught of compliments, Luka has no defenses. “I feel the same, really! So…let’s make the same wager we did the first time, okay? Loser has to treat the winner…it’s a good excuse to spend more time together, don’t you think? And…a-and I won’t go easy either!”[break][break]

A flick of her wrist releases her Lopunny from the confines of a love ball. Strong and nimble, still reeling with the giddiness of being newly evolved, Bonbon is definitely a powerhouse of Luka’s team. She flits onto the field like a fairy, hopping from foot to foot and chittering behind fluffy paws.[break][break]

Herein lies a problem: strategy. When faced with an opponent of mythical status, Luka’s first reaction is to send out one of her strongest fighters in response. Were she a bit more experienced, perhaps she’d find a more strategic way to counter such a powerful opponent. Alas, her instincts have not quite honed themselves as much as she’d like to believe.[break][break]

Can Bonbon really go toe-to-toe with a Pokemon like this? In her last stand against a legendary, the odds had been overwhelmingly stacked against her. Now, though the playing field is still slanted, she’s not quite tumbling over the edge. [break][break]

With a chirp, her oversized rabbit races forwards to make the first move. “Um! Bounce, Bonbon!” Luka instructs- though it sounds more like a request- and her Lopunny leaps high into the air before sharply pivoting back down.

Luka follows, all smiles and polite nods. Her nerves have settled in her stomach like sediment in water, but they churn up again if she thinks about them too long. Bonbon chitters again as they fall in step together, the rabbit’s pace quickening to match her trainer’s stride. Low heels click against tile before they’re muffled by the grass; even with all her preparations, she’d neglected to think of proper footwear.[break][break]

“Oh!”[break][break]

Her eyes widen to saucers as she takes it all in, summer green hues matching the plush grass underfoot and the trees that stretch high into the air. The air smells fresh and vaguely earthy, and carries the scent of pine. Perhaps it’s engineered like this, or perhaps it’s just a blustery day, but the wind that rushes through the aviary almost feels alive.[break][break]

For a moment, Luka feels as though she can understand a bird’s innate instinct for flight. As the wind billows around her and tousles her hair, she wants to leap into it and let it carry her up, up, up into the heavens. [break][break]

But she blinks, feet firmly planted, and turns to Alexei with a smile. [break][break]

“This is incredible! It feels like the sky goes on for miles. So…i-is this where we start, then?”
