It was a lovely day outside, and since he had no prior commitments, he had decided to spend the day riding around Hoenn on his Pokémon. As usual, his chosen mount was Mirage, his Hisuian Zoroark. While he would sometimes ride one of his other Pokémon, Mirage was usually the one he went for since he had the strongest bond with him out of all his Pokémon.

He was enjoying the rush of Mirage using agility to surpass his top speed when the sound of voices reached him. Curious, he gave Mirage's reins a gentle tug to cause him to slow down before looking around. It was, of course, Mirage who would pick up the scent of the other person and her Pokémon, and he would allow Mirage to take them in that direction.

Soon enough, they would come across a girl, perhaps a few years older than him, and her Pokémon. From the way she was dressed, he could only assume she had been on a run or that she had been doing some sort of training.

"Hello, sorry to intrude. I wasn't really expecting to run into anyone out here," he said, swinging himself off of Mirage. If she was paying attention, she might notice he sounded a little breathless and that he was a little flushed, showing he was still riding the high of having Mirage go as fast as he could.[break] Thea Naito

It was a relief to know that the older male hadn't been waiting long. Perhaps due to the way they had been raised, they hated making people wait. In fact, they were more prone to arriving way too early for that very reason. They figured that if they arrived early, there was no way they could keep the person waiting.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Michael, and I hope we'll get there one day. One can never have too many friends," he said, allowing his hand to drop back to his side once he had finished shaking the older male's hand.

Mention of Mirage had him glancing briefly at the Hisuian Zoroark before looking back at the older male. "He's a Hisuian Zoroark. He was my first ever Pokémon. I caught him when I was ten as a Zorua. Presumably, he came through the rift where he ended up getting ganged up on by some other Pokémon," he explained absently, reaching out to stroke the spectral fox.

As he mentioned his plan, his expression became thoughtful. "Sounds good too. Poachers are the main thing we deal with when it comes to people," he agreed. Of course, that would probably all be ignored by the students in favor of the battle.

"Sorry, it's a habit. My parents always told me to show proper respect to those older than me. With how many people prefer a first name basis around Hoenn, I've gotten better at being less formal in my way of talking. I do slip up from time to time though," he admitted, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.

Due to the way he had been brought up, it was hard for him to be on such familiar terms with someone older than him. He was sure his own parents would be aghast. But he had also been raised to respect the wishes of those around him.

"Yes, sir. While I haven't gotten very far due to other obligations, I've been doing the gym circuit. Since coming to Hoenn three years ago, I've been training up my team. I want to be strong enough to prove I won't let certain things hold me back, as well as strong enough to protect those I care about," his face heating up a bit when he got to the last part, clearly uncomfortable about admitting to wanting to protect people.

Shaking off his discomfort, he continued speaking. "Anyway, Mirage is my strongest fighter, but all of my Pokémon are well-trained," he explained, gesturing to the Hisuian Zoroark he was using as a mount when he mentioned Mirage.

"Ah, no, I wouldn't say they don't believe in me. They're just overprotective of me," he said, deciding to leave it at that. He didn't really want to get into his poor health, even if the way he left was sure to raise questions. Like why he was so protective of himself and not his siblings.

Silence lapsed between them for a bit, leaving him to his thoughts. Now that he only had his thoughts to focus on, he had nothing to keep him from thinking about how cold it was. Even with the layers of clothing he had chosen to wear, it was cold. The cold also made his lungs ache, and he had to resist the urge to rub his chest to get rid of the discomfort.

The older teen's voice pulled him out of his thoughts, causing him to focus his attention on her. "Not too much further, the adults don't want us younger people going too far down," he explained.

True, the fact that the Pokémon was safe was a good thing. When asked, he was caught off guard. "Sorry, I was thinking about the way it looked to me. It looks like a metallic version of Virizion to me, and the things on its neck make me think of leaves. Sometimes I voice thoughts aloud without realizing it," he said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.

His parents had scolded him about that in the past. He tried not to, but sometimes thoughts he meant to keep to himself slipped out. It could, at times, cause him to be a little too honest when it came to the way he felt about certain matters. That wasn't to say he couldn't keep a secret because he definitely could.

Upon hearing the explanation, he nodded. It made sense that they didn't want to jostle their injuries, as that would only increase the risk of their injuries getting worse.

Noticing that Mirage was a bit worse for wear, he returned him to his Pokéball and released Gemini to take his place. Following Josh's example, he swung himself onto the back of his own mount, his Wrydeer.
