It didn’t take too long for him to stumble upon something that was dancing in the dirt.

Wait—dancing?

He had to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. Blinking a few times, he then ever so casually snuck behind a rock and then watched the little spectacle, witnessing a Hitmontop going through the motions of what appeared to be an early-morning routine.

Now, he didn’t want to sic Alfons on the thing so soon—he was pretty sure the Hitmontop would quake in its shoes should he send out the Golurk. Instead, a few indecisive moments later led him to use the little fire-breathing lizard that he had with him.

…which he hadn’t named yet, but whatever, he could deal with that later.

“Go, take care of that thing, I’m sure I can find some use for it,” he mutters, watching as the Salandit crawls across the sand, tail whipping out behind her as she clears the corner and comes face-to-face with the Hitmontop. Nonplussed at the strange Pokémon’s appearance, the Fighting-type continues to go on practicing its moves—at least until the Sweet Scent throws it off-guard.

A few moments later and an incoming Rolling Kick attempts to drive the Salandit away, only for the Fighting-type to walk straight into a Toxic trap right to the face. A sudden burst of Flamethrower follows right after, forcing the Hitmontop backwards before the dual-type throws a Venoshock attack at it.

Meanwhile, back at the rock, he really couldn’t tell whether or not his Salandit was done. He could feel a bit of a heat haze, though.

Eventually, the fight is won by the spitting-mad Salandit, and he hears a little screech of victory, which makes him come around the other side of the rock.

“So soon? You’re efficient,” and with that he throws the first of his free Pokéballs at the passed-out Hitmontop, watching as the creature was absorbed by the red beam of light.

Catching the Hitmontop!

Why the hell was he down here at the beach again?

Ugh, he really hated it when sand got into the joints of his prosthetic leg!

This was completely and utterly… Duke could only growl out of annoyance as he looked at the sand—stretching out as far as the eye can see. No wonder he hated it so much. The last time he’d gotten some sand stuck in his prosthetic leg, he couldn’t move the sucker for a week!

Now that was mighty uncomfortable.

Even if he looked absolutely weird and completely out of place wearing jeans and a shirt at the beach, he had his fucking reasons. Now, what the hell was going on, why were there people making a mad dash towards a bunch of turtles who were—

Wait a second.

Was he seeing things?

One of them was blue, everything else was red?

“Eh, whatever,” he said with a grumble, swiping a paper cup full of what he guessed was fruit juice and then joining the fray. While his prosthetic leg made it somewhat harder for him to catch up to everyone else, he fished out a vacant Pokéball from his jacket and quickly took aim with his left hand, throwing it as fast and as far as he could manage…

Now he remembered why exactly he hated coming to the beach—at least, if he wasn’t wearing diving shoes or anything of that sort!

The sand had a horrible tendency to get everywhere in his prosthetic left leg, and if he wasn’t careful, it could even get in his right arm (which was one hell of a lot worse than the leg).

It required hours, upon hours, upon bloody hours of scuffing, shining, greasing, and generally flailing around like a one-armed monkey until he got it all down and out.

…which was not good for someone as impatient as he was. Whoops.

Anyway, he was out here on the beach side of Lilycove, now looking for something… well, he didn’t know exactly what the something was, at least until he saw it for himself!

…lucky had those freebie Pokéballs on him so he didn’t have to dig in too deep with looking for some money to buy some to catch wild Pokémon with.

Well… who knew what he was going to run into? Only time would tell.

If there was one thing he knew she would get right—it was the fact that there would be the literally annoying issue of getting sand all over the place. It sucked all the more when the porous mineral crept into the joints of his prosthetics—exactly one of the many reasons why he disliked and absolutely avoided going to the beach as much as possible.

Could you blame the guy if two of his four functioning limbs were made of metal and no longer fully flesh-and-blood?

“Why. The hell. Are you in the sky?!” he grumbled, squinting up at the heavens to take a glare at the sun—it really pissed him off so much that it was so hot, yet it was only supposed to be spring time! What the hell was whack with this region’s seasons, anyway?

He was actually thankful there was no winter to be had, otherwise he’d also have another hell of a time trying to get around and just… trying not to freeze his nuts off. Ugh.

And why does she want to meet down at the beach? This is so frickin’ stupid… he thought crossly, fanning himself with his right hand as he tried to beat the heat away—to no avail.

“Don’t. Wanna. Take my shirt off,” he grumbled again, kicking up as much sand as he could with his right foot. He’d come out wearing a pair of pants and a light shirt, because no way in hell was he going to risk wearing a pair of board shorts out on the sand.

“Do you know. How hard. It is. To remove all the sand from my joints?!” he exclaimed as he approached the equal shrimp, looming in front of her and serving to block out the sun—she was lying down on the sand anyway, what with her nice and fully human legs and arms and—
