Regardless, Adrian is not usually one to stir the hornet's nest. If it came to it, he would answer force with force. Or at least, that's how he would normally feel in these situations... But something's gnawing at him from the inside, and it begs a more violent response of him.[break][break]

This feeling is compounded by a sense of guilt:[break][break]

Perhaps now Adrian can appreciate Rowan's ceaseless pursuit of Suicune, left feeling at fault for not considering how vital something like this might be to Rowan's safety. He'd treated it like any other vain pursuit, belittling their position. It wasn't fair of him to do that to Rowan.[break][break]

"No one's dying on account of some old ceramic plates. But I don't think she should have them, either..." If she wanted the plates, it was because of something they could do for her. Why oblige, then?[break][break]

They would want to keep them as far from her as possible.

Adrian could never see himself going to such lengths, and it really spoke to his character more than he cared to admit. Callan was keen on making this work between them, you could tell by the way he was buttering Adrian up, but nothing about what they said came across as disingenuous. Perhaps a bit embellished, but nothing to the tune of a lie, so far as Adrian could tell.[break][break]

"We can try whatever you'd like, just have to book us a studio room for an evening." Getting a room cheap these days would be easy enough, considering the underwhelming presence of talent in Hoenn. Many artists found their stardom in Kalos or Unova these days, or even Alola or Galar. Hoenn wasn't exactly the musical capital of the world, but that worked to their advantage.[break][break]

Still, there were big players like Melody Miro that hogged the limelight. They would still be the underdogs, vying for every inch trying to make an impression.[break][break]

Adrian had to admit, he was starting to look forward to this venture. They weren't just going to be another splash in the pond. The corner of his lips tugs back into a lopsided grin as they're talking about which genres they want to break into, where their inspiration came from, how they'd scratched the surface of this dream...[break][break]

If he'd been a better brother, Serena Malcolm might have had the chance to tell him about the time a Genesect prowled the bowels of the submarine unchecked, and known better than to give anything here the benefit of the doubt.[break][break]

But as it is, Adrian is distrusting of this very vessel and everything housed within, regardless of any storied exposition. So when it makes a move towards him, he raises his right-hand and balls his fist, while his offhand reaches for a pokeball. Rover was his only real option, in such a cramped environment. While taking a halfstep back, he feels his digits tracing against the sphere of a pokeball.[break][break]

"What the fuck is this," he pointedly asks, thinking it some illusory contraption, a device or gadget having been developed by Team Rocket that has been employed for some measure of test of trick. Or... a pokemon?[break][break]

When he allows himself to process what he's seeing, Adrian would achieve clarity; by the shade of their aura it is plain they possess attributes shared by avatars and legendary pokemon. These are no mortal contrivances being put to use, but some freak of nature. His eyes narrow with cynical uncertainty as he pondered...

Adrian dabbled in things preternatural and esoteric in origin as a result of Hoenn's unusual streak of disasters. Every loss, personal or otherwise, is a reason to shore up one's defenses. For Hoenn, it meant awakening the urge to appoint avatars in unique LEGENDARY pokemon. For the League, it meant surrounding themselves with ELITE TRAINERS. For Adrian, it meant collecting pokemon of demonstrable talent and abilities. Unown were simply the latest, most unique in a long line of acquisitions.[break][break]

"But if we weren't being pressured to collect them then, well, I probably wouldn't be so pressed to find more of them..." Part of him had continued his collection in renewed earnest after discovering a young trainer by the name of Ruby, whom he'd met briefly at the Aurorus Ball, had passed away under uncertain circumstances. He'd traded her a few of his earliest Unown captures, as she was a psychic specialist of some caliber, and at the time they held less perceived value to more competitive trainers.[break][break]

Much had changed since those days of relative peace.[break][break]

"It depends, but there really is no place like home." Maybe Mars would not be able to appreciate the attractions and qualities of his hometown, but Adrian would always have a soft spot for Sinnoh; it felt horrible to be cut off from his family and friends who still lived there.

Mere inches from devastation, Kubfu's INNER FOCUS kicks in. It ducks with the blow, unable to evade it, but perhaps mitigating the efficacy of their strike's otherwise perfect alignment. And then a balled fist lashes out—

Working himself up might've made more sense, but the scoring system didn't favor the easier tricks. But for now maybe it'd pay to try something a little easier. Consistent, effective effort leads to success. That's what he'd tell himself, paddling out from the shallows towards the waves cresting along the horizon.[break][break]

Furor is forced to puppy guard him more closely however as Sharpedo, Basculin and Huntail are hover just outside of reach, perhaps hoping to catch the trainer unawares. Gyarados gnashes its teeth when they dare trespass, keeping most of them at bay and detering hostilities.[break][break]

He's got to work fast under these conditions. Will it pay off?[break][break]

Its undulating figure sprawls out across the sandy shore, slapping its tail against the beach lightly as it is forced to idle there. Snapping his wristband back into place, a resplendent KEYSTONE socketed into its only receptable, Adrian would be ready to make the best of this round.[break][break]

To him, Gyarados emanates POWER by its mere visage. While on the platform, he beats a clenched fist against his chest once, before shifting into something akin to Galar's CHARIZARD POSE, except he raises only a balled fist that he flexes, showing more pronounced muscle definition despite his lean build. Primal energy begins streaking from the gadget on his wrist, tethering with a similar energy spawning from a corresponding stone in Furor's crest.[break][break]

An unnatural glow of reddish magenta builds up with the crest as its epicenter before enveloping the length of its body in the change, swelling its serpentine form and causing magenta arcs of lightning to ripple across its figure. Beige scales harden into stygian bulwarks, and its dorsal fins split and become two-prong, allowing it to cut through waves and put on a prominent threat display.[break][break]

Whether it's underneath stage lighting or a sweltering sun, Adrian cannot help but feel the veneer of sweat clinging to him after they've taken the stage. With both of them rushing in at once, they close the gap in the blink of an eye. Kubfu's diminutive form holds itself surreptitiously in its gait, making it uncertain whether it is poised to strike with its legs or its arms; even as their collision is imminent it betrays no bias or lean.

Kubfu holds back from matching their blow, throwing a feint in order to duck around the comparatively sweeping blows of its opponent before retaliating.

Nooks and crannies clinging to rocky outcroppings and the like might be somewhere they went to hide from the more aggressive marine pokemon, so he started checking around those areas. But sticking his arm into an unknown crevice was nightmare fuel, so he likely wasn't as thorough as he could've been when searching them for loose articles.[break][break]

When he feels something for the first time reaching into some unknown void between boulders, he flinches and pulls back at first, before probing the narrow gap again to see what he'd uncovered beneath the coral and granite.[break][break]

It might've been nothing, but he'd have to see it to know.[break][break]

Even if it felt more believable every time he took another shot at the same trick and made a little bit of headway, it all felt like one big joke. Landing a Magikarp Splash only to struggle nailing an easier trick. But it's not like he doesn't have all summer to clean up his act, so he's back to it, arms braced against the Mantine as they fill into the trough of their next wave.[break][break]
